Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1970, 1981 and 1989.
Our first selection is from the first show of the 1970s, on 1/2/70 at the Fillmore East in New York, during the Dead's only foray outside of California during the New Year festivities (they played in Boston on 12/31/69). From this excellent and quite famous show we have the big Live/Dead sequence of Dark Star>St. Stephen>The Eleven>Lovelight.
Next is the start of the show from 5/11/81 in New Haven, from the excellent Spring Tour of 1981, where they opened the two night run with New Minglewood Blues > Sugaree > El Paso ; Jack-A-Roe ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Row Jimmy. This is from the cassette master and features an excellent mix from the PA.
Lastly this week is the end of the second set from 12/8/89 at the LA Forum, the Dead's final run of shows at the Forum. Space ; I Will Take You Home ; The Other One ; Wharf Rat ; Throwing Stones ; Not Fade Away. As part of the recording project for what became Without A Net, these three nights in LA were recorded to 24-track analog tape.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
