question for E
How is the sound quality here? I grade my 4/21 and 4/23 as A- SBDs and 4/22 as only a B SBD. I'd love to upgrade 4/22 if a higher quality SBD circulates. Thanks E!

Ok excuse me for sounding like a fool
but these are videos correct? I'm pretty much a video virgin. can you use the same software that converts audio FLAC files? I'm pretty sure I can burn a DVD on my computer... arrgh I feel like an idiot! thanks for any help..
"When the smoke has cleared, she said, that's what she said to me. You're gonna want a bed to lay your head and a little sympathy"
No, they aren't videos. These shows are on a DVD...
...but they're not video. flac is an audio compression format. There are only three or four videos currently being vined, the vast majority are audio. Some of the vines (audio compressed in flac or shn format) are on DVDs because that disc type can hold 8x as much as a CD, and those vines may or may not have already-decoded CDs included.
You should probably make sure you can copy DVDs, and that you have the software required to decode flac/shn formats if you plan on making audio CDs that can be played in most CD players. The flac software (Traders' Little Helper seems to be the most popular) doesn't have anything to do with video.
Cheers,
MarkintheDark

Thanks man and sign me up
That all makes sense now. Thanks very much for the explanation.
I am very familiar with FLAC so no problem there, (shows I D/L from etree are FLACS) although one show I got from etree was a SHN and I can't convert it so I don't know what's up with that. I suppose I need specific software for SHNs?
As far as being on a DVD, as long as my computer can read a DVD I should be able to move the FLAC files from the DVD to my computer? I really appreciate your help!!

"Daddy made whiskey, and he made it well. Cost two dollars and it burned like hell. I cut hickory just to fire the still. Drink down a bottle, and you're ready to kill"
Yes, if it is a DVD player on your computer...
...you can just copy the folders of flac files onto your harddrive and proceed from there. Flac is now the format of choice and replaces the older "shn" format. Traders Little Helper processes both flac and shn files, what software are you using?
On the "New Vines 2009" forum there are links to Wikipedia articles on the file formats in the header section, you might want to check those out. There's a link to the TLH download page in the articles.

you can find software & info on SHN format here
http://etree.org/mkw.html
The mkw Audio Compression Tool (mkwACT) is a free Windows® 95/98/Me and NT/2000 and XP program created for the easy and convenient conversion of WAV audio files to and from various lossless and lossy compressed formats, including Shorten (SHN).
mkwACT is simply the easiest utility available for compressing and decompressing Shorten files, and checking and creating MD5 signatures.
By following the step-by-step instructions below, most users should be able to download, install, configure, and learn to use mkwACT within 20 minutes or less!
My Winamp software for FLAC
But I couldn't get their SHN software to work. It's probably me though. I'll get it figured out with your all's suggestions you provided, thanks again!

Did this vine ever get mailed back out?
Been a couple of weeks, just wondering which Monday.

You may want to check with Ben before sending the vine to him.
I know of at least two vines that have stalled in that direction. I also have a vine that he is next on and I haven't heard from in over a week. I just don't know if he is still vining.
