Grateful Dead Original Members To Perform Together Again One Last Time

Grateful Dead Original Members Reunite to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

“Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2015

Marks the Grateful Dead Members' Final Performance Together

    Event information available at Dead50.net

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will reunite at Chicago's Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" will occur over three nights on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015, marking the original members' last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.

Jerry Garcia's daughter Trixie Garcia announced the shows in an exclusive interview. You can check out her announcement here.

Joining the original members of Grateful Dead are three musicians who have embodied the band’s spirit of musical innovation throughout their eclectic careers. Guitarist Trey Anastasio is best known for his work as the principal songwriter and lead guitarist for touring juggernaut Phish, but he has also found time to score and arrange music for orchestras and Broadway productions such as “Best Musical” TONY nominee ‘Hands on a Hardbody.’ Pianist Bruce Hornsby had already won the first of his three Grammy Awards when he first guested with Grateful Dead in 1988. Following the death of the band’s keyboard player Brent Mydland in 1990, Hornsby toured with the group into 1992, and he has maintained a collaborative relationship with its members ever since. Bay Area native and jazz keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined Bob Weir’s Rat Dog in 1997, and has since worked on projects such as Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones, The Dead, and Furthur.

In the tradition of the original Grateful Dead Ticketing Mail Order, tickets will first be made available via a first-come, first-served mail order system. All additional ticketing information is available at Dead50.net.

    One Last Time
First off, don't think I'll be going,as much as the boys were a huge part of my life(touring from 81- till They ran Jerry into the ground) The multi-million $ machine had to keep rollin'- the man needed a rest!!! Now they want to play Chicago cause it was the last place he played( no diss to Chicago cause it is truly one of the greatest cities in this country), but I was thinking why not Colorado, I mean with their new law, seems like a perfect match, hasn't anyone else considered this???? Why not Mile High Stadium or Red Rocks @ $500 a pop, just a thought. Not to mention them dissing The Bay Area,as well as NYC.How bout a free show in Golden Gate Park? Myself, I saw many a monumental show(within my years-would trade them all for the chance to see Pigpen era),84 & 85 Greeks, Mt.aire w/ Santana, Nassau Col w/ Brandford, Love & Laughter( Uncle Bobo tribute), 90 Euro tour, The Walocks(Hampton) Jerry solo(Passiac) Lunt Fontaine (5 inc. Halloween), but only saw 5 post Jerry shows, just wasn't the same(OBVIOUSLY ), not to say I wouldn't love to take that ride one more time! Just don't feel the huge stadium, the cost, the heat of Summer would be ideal. Still love the music!!! always will. Would be good to see old friends, & I have no problem with the line-up, although special guests(Dylan,Santana,Jorma,Neil& others who been part of their scene over the years) ala Dylan's 30th Ann. @ MSG But then again ,that's the Band choice & who knows how's it going to play out? I wish all you well & hope everyone has a blast & it's hoping it's going to be one helluv a show to go out on!!! Just wish $ flowed like rain, & I would or could be there one last time. Fare Thee Well !!!!

Hope to see you all there!
After 42 years of following the band I'm hoping to get to Chicago. Living in the US Virgin Islands, I am a bit out of the loop and missed mail order. Will try my best to get tix in Feb, but if I don't make it, Enjoy the show!!

Tickets to the July reunion shows
My wife and I saw many shows back in the 80's, I spent 10 years singing and playing in a Dead cover band after Jerry died. We are kinda torn up about seeing a reunion, Giddy and afraid at the same time, we want to bring our son who was born in 94 (and who we wanted to bring with us to see the band last century...but...), the problem is we are not as young as we once were and general admission is out of the question (a couple of health issues, nothing too serious). We missed the mail out (which was how all our tickets were purchased back in the day). How do we get good tickets without the disappointment of being shut out by scalpers or more talented/experienced online ticket purchasers?Help! My wife is emotionally conflicted by the whole effort, just getting her to agree to try and go has been a major ordeal, she tied so much of her youth to the Dead, she often starts crying when she hears me listening to the music. If anyone can help us to get good seats to the Saturday (and possibly Sunday if I can talk her into it) shows, I would greatly appreciate it, we don't need charity, just some good advice.

TALKIN' ABOUT "FARE THEE WELL: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF GRATEFUL DEAD"

“I have a feeling this will come out just right. Can’t wait to find out…HERE WE GO!” - Mickey Hart

"The Grateful Dead lived an incredible musical story and now we get to write a whole new chapter. By celebrating our 50th, we get to cheer our past, but this isn't just about history. The Grateful Dead always played improvisational music that was born in the moment and we plan on doing the same this round." - Bill Kreutzmann

“It is with respect and gratitude that we reconvene the Dead one last time to celebrate - not merely the band's legacy, but also the community that we’ve been playing to, and with, for fifty years,” - Phil Lesh "Wave that flag, wave it wide and high…"

"Lookin' forward to this one, oh boy, you bet. Let's see just how much fun we can have this 4th of July." - Bob Weir<

I don't think a lot of MOs have been cashed. If you haven't gotten a pink slip yet, there is still hope.

Still not 100% sure (I'll feel better with an actual GDTSTOO email confirmation) but.. Called USPS to check my MoneyOrder status to Grateful Dead Tickets Sales. Got a weird msg from automated response so I opted to speak to an agent. Put on hold forever Connects and says call is monitored. Spoke to XXXXX in XXXXX and he takes info name, phone # & MO serial # info. (I had to give all that info with the original purchase). While waiting for the computer, and after some small talk about the weather, he asked, "you do know what the verification system tells you right?" Me "No not exactly. that's why I waited 10 minutes to talk to someone" Chuckle on other end. In a matter of fact tone he states, "Mr XXXXX, you're supposed to go to the post office and pay $6.10 per money order to track them." Silence. Him "Okay give me a second." "Okay, confirmed. You're verified in the system." Me "I have several others" Him "You can assume if this is verified so are the others." Me "theoretically?" Chuckle from him "yah" Silence Him again "you do know what verification means right?" Me "I guess not. I called to see if they have been cashed." Short silence again. Him "all I can tell you is it has been verified." Me "Oooookay?" Him in a direct take a hint way "IT MEANS YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES." "Is there anything else I can help you with today?" Me "No. Thanks!" --- Later I learned from others what the original automated msg meant. By calling back I confirmed my other tickets (days) and also learned the extra money I sent in for $115 vs $95.50 tickets was not cashed. Another post follows how and what to listen for in the automated msg.

One CAN tell if a USPS order has been cashed or not w/o paying a fee. One has to use the automated 866# NOT WEBSITE That number to call is 1-866-459-7822 Have your MO pay receipts handy After a brief intro Choose: "verify a money order" option 1) It will first ask for the 11 digit serial # on the MO receipt. It will then ask to confirm it. 2) It will then ask for the amount followed by the pound key "#" ($191 = 19100#) It will ask to confirm the amount. 3) It will then ask for the 6 digit postal office code (middle bottom of receipt under "post office") It will ask to confirm it. Then listen carefully. It will either say something like: "does NOT match our records" or "matches our records" "does NOT match our records" = it's been cashed "matches our records" = it hasn't been cashed (yet) Again "does NOT match our records" MEANS YOU WILL LIKELY GET TICKETS (I say likely because I'd rather wait for the GDTSTOO email confirm & tickets in hand!) It will then prompt other choices like check another ticket or you can hang up, hopefully start dancing and stop worrying about the mailbox for now. I would suggest checking your higher priced MO's first (95.50/1 191/2 etc depending on how many per day). If you sent in an additional MO to cover the cost of higher price tickets ($20 for each extra) they may not have been cashed. One can always hold the line and "opt to check another money order" to confirm the extra cost ones. I wouldn't bother talking to a USPS agent. Technically they cannot tell you if you didn't pay the $6.10 fee (see previous post). They KNOW why they are getting these calls & their patience is running out. It takes forever to get one anyway. Thanks to John Lee & Mike Zalewski on the Fauxbooks (Mike you had the number wrong but got me in right direction). See you there. I'll be the guy in a tye-dye.

You are "da man". This is the most constructive post I have seen in this forum. I will be making that call the second I get home from work. At this point all I want to hear is "Not in system"!!!!!!!!

Huh. All I get is that the money order info does match an actual money order (i.e., it is not fraudulent). No "in the system" or "not in the system." I gather this means it's still "in the system" and not cashed.

I called back, got right in (12:30 PM CST) and listened to what was said "does NOT match our records" is what you want to hear I made the changes below. See below for instructions. See post below instructions for why I believe that to be the case (others have stated "does not match" is what you want to hear as well). Sorry for the confusion. I hope this helps.

As someone wrote earlier, this is one of the most helpful posts I've seen on here in weeks, thanks. I had tried another number on the USPS website but it got me to a point of actually reporting criminal mail activity to an authority figure, ha. The number you provided is definitely more to the point of what we're all looking for. It says mine match their records, however no rejection letter yet here in Worcester, Massachusetts. Keep hope alive! Now the paranoid thought line can be "Did they already cash all the money orders for the winners? So if it still matches in their system at this point it just means a rejection letter is coming eventually?" Aaaaaahhhhh!!! The waiting is the hardest part . . . (pertinent Tom Petty lyrics are allowed, right?)

Thanks for the good information. I called and got "matches our records". I guess the good news is that I spent the extra 25.00 for fedex delivery and that MO hasn't been cashed either. I've been checking this site everyday hoping for tiny bits of news. Believe it or not the tickets I'm requesting are not even for me but hopefully will be a surprise for my husband and son. I love the GD but but don't feel worthy of a ticket for myself when I know there are people out there like my husband and son that are a different breed of fan Lol. I'm a pretty awesome wife and mom though, right?! kctomato, curious if you decorated your envelope? Unfortunately I am not an artist and left my envelope plain. Anyone living in MI that have received a rejection or cashed money order? The wait is almost over.....may we all survive. Good luck!

I did doodle some on the envelope. I really didn't spend more than 2-3 minutes on it though. I was rushed that day to get to the post office before closing. I specifically chose a roses stamp that looked something like this: Then I roughly stylized some vines, leaves and roses similar to the stamp with the edge of my son's markers around the addresses and edges. I think I wrote something near the stamp like "maybe it will be the roses" or "maybe it was the roses ... that got us tickets". I don't specifically recall. I am no Bob Weir, but my "remembery system" isn't what it done used to be either (evidenced from my original post of the USPS wording).

Did you happen to catch The Late Late show a few weeks ago? John Mayer was hosting and had Bob Weir on as his guest. It was fun to see his remembery system in action...He is a sweet, furry man but some of the questions he was asked made him look a bit like a deer in the head lights. John was saying that GDTS TOO that little place in Stinson Beach, was sitting on 40 million dollars in money orders. I hope the building is fire proof. John Mayer and Bob Weir sang "Truckin" together. It was a fun show.

I would say $40,000,000 is a slightly conservative total amount of money orders that came into gdtstoo. We know they received over 60,000 envelopes and over 400,000 individual requests for tickets. Multiplying the lowest ticket price of $95.50 times the 400,000 requests brings in over 38 million bones in money orders. Thanks for the info kctomato!! My money orders have not been cashed yet. Sweaty palms and gratefully hopeful. Good luck dead heads!!

Dead heads, does everybody know you can deposit your postal money orders in your bank or credit union checking account. Several friends have done so here in Alabama and in Maine too. Sure beats waiting in line at the post office. Best!

I am still sitting here in limbo...I called the Post Office and my money orders are still in the system, but I still have hope, I don't believe they have processed all the orders yet or I think the email would've gone out already. I am wondering though if they would cash my $9 priority mail MO to send a rejection letter or not?? Anyone know?? Because that is still in system too. Hoping I wont have one of the late arriving pinkies so bad! My boyfriend who is not a head, and will not be attending the shows, wanted me to hurry up and call the number right away because he said he is tired of being nervous when he goes to the mailbox, lol, he hears me talking in my sleep about tickets Good Luck EVERYONE !!

Requested 2-tix-ANY Sat/Sun, I did it all exactly correctly (with a little-drawing as well), I even used Jimi Hendrix stamps just in case -- and here in NYC an hour or so ago I received the SASE of 7-MOs ($191/40/200/191/40/200 and $9 for priority mail). The SASE-postmark was Feb 17. Well, I'll try ticketmaster, etc. My wife and I already have our plane-tix/hotel. And we'll be looking everywhere we can to buy tix for either night -- except from scalpers. And, well, at least the nervous suspense of opening the mailbox is over. And I honestly would've rather faced Freddy Krueger or Jason from Friday the 13th than the little note of "nope" from GDTS. :) :) :) John PS :(

The following is a slightly fictionalized account of a recent conversation with my significant other. Lightnin Will: Honey, I just got an e-mail from dead.net. Let's pack up the the tofu salad sandwiches and the djembes an go truckin up to Chicago to see the Dead one last time. We can get a VIP package for a couple of thousand. Sunshine Daydream: You know I love you more than words can tell, but we are getting married next year and we need the money to fix up your house so there will be room for me and that gigantic surround sound stereo system you have. Can't we stay home and watch it on pay-per-view streaming video. You know, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, or Google Play. Netflix has really good surround sound. Lightnin Will: But honey, I think we have to be there to experience the high energy vibe created by the interaction of the band and the audience. Sunshine Daydream: Don't you think it's possible to be part of the vibe from a distance. We will be watching it live, right. Lightnin Will: Yes, we do have a good connection to the Dead. Like with all those Dead dreams I've told you about. Let's give it a whirl. Sunshine Daydream: If you give me a twirl.

Sir John Q- Hey sorry you got your personal non-personal letter....that sucks, and I can relate personally to what you said, especially the sad face on the PS. It's a tough deal. However, the music ain't stopping, right? Right! ..and it never did, right? Right! You are on the right track...make sure you get those MO redeposited, pay a bit on the plastic, and preregister with Ticketmaster. You got any plans to be anywhere but in front of your computer on 2/28 at 10 AM? Me thinks not...join you there, brother, and let's keep the bus rolling. For when you are there, inside, and the music starts, it will be all worthwhile. You will be right where you are supposed to be, and if we think alike, you will be right where you want to be. Peace to you, good vibes and best wishes for all success... g

Ok, So I am not at a good feeling at all with this whole 50th. My first show was 1978. Been on the bus and followed all incarnations including the Dead, the Other Ones, Furthur, Phil and Friends. etc Got my rejection letter for this fiasco. All I can think is what would Jerry think. He would be horrified, me thinks. Now I don't want anything to do with this commercialization of what was the greatest music. I also feel that Furthur was some of the greatest music I had been listening to in many years, including the last years of Jerry. I do realize that Jerry, with diabetes, probably didn't have a lot of feeling in his fingertips. I don't even know how he played those last couple of years. I just feel more and more admiration for him that he played even though he most likely did not feel well at all. I saw his last shows in 1995and feel privileged that I did. The whole sell-out of this "Dead" show is disgusting to me. I am pretty sure I will have tickets from another deadhead. However, at this point I don't want to be there in person. Sad for a gal that has been a true fan for 37 years.

I just don't understand the term "fiasco" in relation to this whole thing. What else do you think they should have done? The demand is astronomical. You think they should have just done it, GA, with no pre-sales. First come, first serve at Soldier Field? Yeah that wouldn't have been a fiasco or anything. This is amazing the way this was done. And then online sales this weekend. Sorry you didn't get your tix yet, but if you would have, would this not be a fiasco anymore? People just need to stop complaining about every god damn thing in this world. If you are a true Dead Head...you would understand that. And with that...I still haven't received my rejection letter, confirmation email or had any MO's cashed. Still waiting.....

Finally. It's been a fun (sometimes stressful) little ride this last month with these tix. We should be finding out our ticket fate this week. Wish the best to all of you. Whatever happens, it has been nice to connect with old friends this past month. There has been some great comedy flying around and that has been a lot of fun to be a part of. Hopefully no more Pinky's come flying in... And Ticket awards fill the air here soon!!!

We’ve been submerged in a sea of mail and are coming up for a breath of air to give you an update on where we stand right now. We are 75% of the way processing all of the orders, working 24/7 to get your money orders back to you. There were many, many times more order requests than anyone imagined, thousands and thousands with beautiful art. We are trying to let as many folks as possible know their status before the onsale date. Emails will go out to the winners starting in the next two days. Your chances of receiving tickets from us are 1 in 10, so if you have not received a winner’s email from us by the on-sale date, you may want to consider on line ticket sales to increase your chances.Tickets will be mailed out in June. Please do not email us at this time as we will not be able to answer your inquiry. Okay, we are taking a deep breath and going back under.
