Grateful Dead Original Members To Perform Together Again One Last Time

Grateful Dead Original Members Reunite to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

“Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2015

Marks the Grateful Dead Members' Final Performance Together

    Event information available at Dead50.net

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will reunite at Chicago's Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" will occur over three nights on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015, marking the original members' last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.

Jerry Garcia's daughter Trixie Garcia announced the shows in an exclusive interview. You can check out her announcement here.

Joining the original members of Grateful Dead are three musicians who have embodied the band’s spirit of musical innovation throughout their eclectic careers. Guitarist Trey Anastasio is best known for his work as the principal songwriter and lead guitarist for touring juggernaut Phish, but he has also found time to score and arrange music for orchestras and Broadway productions such as “Best Musical” TONY nominee ‘Hands on a Hardbody.’ Pianist Bruce Hornsby had already won the first of his three Grammy Awards when he first guested with Grateful Dead in 1988. Following the death of the band’s keyboard player Brent Mydland in 1990, Hornsby toured with the group into 1992, and he has maintained a collaborative relationship with its members ever since. Bay Area native and jazz keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined Bob Weir’s Rat Dog in 1997, and has since worked on projects such as Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones, The Dead, and Furthur.

In the tradition of the original Grateful Dead Ticketing Mail Order, tickets will first be made available via a first-come, first-served mail order system. All additional ticketing information is available at Dead50.net.

    Gonna be epic
We've been waiting for this one for a while. Trying to get our game plan together for a group coming from all corners of the country. I plan on doing the mail order on the 20th, but as a backup I am thinking about purchasing a few more on 12 Feb. Any thoughts on whether or not mail order purchasers will know the status of their order before tickets start going line? thanks and see you there.

    Videotaping and ticket purchases
I didn't look, but they have never ever allowed the before (people have sometimes still smuggled stuff in, though). I think the answer is almost definitely no. Best way to get tickets: who's to say? Mail order is a lottery, earlier postmark dates considered before later ones. Internet and ticketmaster are first come first served. I would guess they divvied up the seats pretty equally between these three methods, but that's an educated guess based on how they divvied up tickets between mail order and ticketmaster in the past.

    ticket purchase
I posted a question under another heading, but as I am new to this format of communication I thought I would also inquire here as to the best way to purchase for Chicago show. Mail or online? Also went to chat room. How do I know when someone replies to me ? ( don't laugh ! Some of us older folks are not so techno savvy ! )

TALKIN' ABOUT "FARE THEE WELL: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF GRATEFUL DEAD"

“I have a feeling this will come out just right. Can’t wait to find out…HERE WE GO!” - Mickey Hart

"The Grateful Dead lived an incredible musical story and now we get to write a whole new chapter. By celebrating our 50th, we get to cheer our past, but this isn't just about history. The Grateful Dead always played improvisational music that was born in the moment and we plan on doing the same this round." - Bill Kreutzmann

“It is with respect and gratitude that we reconvene the Dead one last time to celebrate - not merely the band's legacy, but also the community that we’ve been playing to, and with, for fifty years,” - Phil Lesh "Wave that flag, wave it wide and high…"

"Lookin' forward to this one, oh boy, you bet. Let's see just how much fun we can have this 4th of July." - Bob Weir<

let me see if I can jog your memory. did they agent guy who answered your call have a first name that might have gone with the word "Cosmic" before it? Or one might possibly preface his name with "Mister"? Or the kind of guy who might "black your eye and kick your dog"? Because sounds like the same attitude of guy I got who said "you're one of the lucky ones".

After calling the USPS money order status number too many times I kept being directed to a live person, who wasn't as helpful as you experienced. After reading your post I went to the website to check. After days and days of hearing "it DOES match" I got an on-line message saying the number does not match their records. I'm hoping this is good news for me. Not sure if I've just checked too many times, and now they can't give me an accurate status. I'm obsessed and hopeful. Thanks for your detailed post.

Seeing some factual info and some bad guesses. Not all PSL owners were allowed in the presale today. ONLY United Club members which someone correctly identified as the 200 and 300 sections on the east side of stadium. Those folks were allowed to buy club member seats or GA with a maximum per show on an individual presale code. I have such a code and it says this promotion is no longer available. So either this code got over-used or the presale itself sold out....point is we are talking a small number of people and Saturday's sale will still be a majority of the tickets remaining. Good luck to all :-) I was lucky enough to get in Friday and Saturday, still need Sunday and still have a mail order app out there somewhere!

Has anyone gotten an email today? I am 3 hours later than CA time zone and I have checked my emails..I don't know maybe 100 times? I feel like an OCD chick waiting for a text after my first date! No SASE today and I am wondering if I missed the latest batch of happy dance emails. So happy for all of you that have gotten ticket confirmation

The 200 and 300 section seems to seat 6,000 or 7,000 people. Still a big chunk not available. I can't see more than 15,000 seats available for Saturday sale. Nice score to the people in today's presale:)

I heard they were considering 360 seating. Throw up 4 more speakers and everybody's happy. However, the new seat map that just went up at ticketmaster shows them all greyed out as "unavailable". The entire floor is now GA with the front third being GA Pit.

What exactly does the website indicate when you check your number? When I enter my #s, it says "no information available for serial number". Nothing about a "does not match". Checked via phone and it is still matching.....hoping this is a good sign and not just a system crash.

This is NOT how you treat fans who supported the band through the past 50 years. In each passing year since Garcia's death, it has gotten more ridiculous Now you want to have a concert where you know demand will far outstrip capacity to the point of having many ticketless people in the lots of an inner city stadium. This is madness. This is greed. This is just plain out not caring about your fans. In contrast, the gentleman that will be playing lead guitar in July appears to treat his fans well with multi-day festivals that let everyone enjoy the music and fellowship. I am really concerned with how the "core four" have handled this....my prediction is it will make summer 1995 seem mild

Sharikelly- Same boat here. Definitely sitting in limbo. My hope is that since they have not announced that they are done sending "You got tickets" e-mails, that they are not finished, and that we still have a chance. It will certainly not be easy to buy tickets on Saturday with my MO still floating out there, that's for sure.

So, I called the USPS number and my base money orders are all "does not match" but the additional money orders all still match. I have not received an email and I am probably one of those folks who forgot to include an email address, so they cannot confirm...or they haven't gotten to me in the process. Wednesday, Feb 25 was the first day I got a "does not match" message. So, I'm thinking I got the cheap seats? Good luck everyone! Cheers, Keir

Okay I see tix on Ebay already, a friend told me about it last night, and yes some are ALREADY THERE, thanks to Surftickets4you. Selling them already at $1750 and $1250 EA.How'd these people slip through the magical allocation process? A miracle indeed. DEpressed Deadhead here in northern IL waiting for that miracle. Good luck to all REAL 'Heads getting some TIX, not poachers, real FUCKING heads, who do rock out to your music like its gospel, yes US, not fuckhead surfhead and his cohorts of gloom and doom. if thats the case thats cool, if I had to sit through last season I'd want some payback too but I'd go to the show. "We are trying to let as many folks know their status if possible before the onsale date. Emails will go out to the winners starting in the next two days. The crew of GDTS TOO -2.23.15" now what, wait for a miracle before Saturday morning? Anyone, have any Taper Tix been deemed winners yet? Thanks in advance.

This has turned out to be an " interesting " situation. I don't have either a rejection or confirmation as of the time of this writing. If none is forthcoming I will be forced to consider a CID package as a default, because notifications may not all be completed yet. If I am so lucky as to get the lottery tickets and I have already purchased the CID package as a "back-up" that will be another fun situation to try to resolve-sell the lottery tickets or try to sell the CID( non-refundable) package to a potential buyer. Oh Boy! BUT, I really want to go.

I got my confirmation E-mail at 2:07 EST today and I only sent 1 non-decorated envelope for 2 tix for all 3 nights. The E-mail said that if I only sent 1 envelope my entire order would be filled, so I guess I got tix for 3 shows. I was #310. Furthermore to answer a previously posted question...I sent my Money Orders from the Post Office on Tuesday at approximately 4:00pm EST as I had to work that day and it was a mad rush to the post office after work to fill out my requests and purchase money orders.I made sure the postal clerk stamped the date 1/20/2015 on my envelope as I watched, I've mail ordered before and I know that stamp can make or break your chances. I hope this has been helpful. If you haven't recieved the refusal letter yet,...there is still hope. Good luck hope to see you in Chi Town.

The exact same thing happened to me during the 09 tour, sent in mail order, no word if I got tickets or not, had to buy extras at face value from the ticketmaster machine. Then I got the mail order tickets, had extras, what to do, what to do... I miracled mine, how about you? This next part is about the ebay sales of these tickets...what did you expect? Of course there are people out there who will get these tickets and ask an arm and a leg for them, this is Amerika, land of the greedy, and this is a great opportunity for all those greedy sob's to make their last big money off this band, it has been happening for a long time and it will continue to happen, as long as there is a huge demand and a very limited supply, there will be the greedy who will jump on this bus and ride it for all that it is worth. Now, who's fault is this? I blame the band, they made this situation, they are the ones that will only play 3 shows and screw all the loyal heads that can't get or can't afford these tickets. Shame on you Phil, Bobby, Mickey and Billy, shame on you. This is the legacy that you will leave behind to all your loyal fans, a shitty taste in one's mouth and no concert for you, or if you go, you had better mortgage your home to afford the cost. How many of you out there really think this is "Dead worthy" not I, that's for sure. I did not do the mail order, I will not buy into this fiasco, and if you think this is all about a good time and dancing and partying, well, I hope you are right, but I got a real bad feeling about this whole thing. "Watch each card you play and play it slow" I have been to the ticket master site, I will be there on Saturday at 10 am central time also, if I get tickets, I will pass them on to a needy head, and not for a huge profit, well, not a huge profit anyway. This will be the first Dead tour I will have missed in 25 years. Thanks Phil, Bobby, Mickey and Billy, thanks a lot. Now, go count your money. I hope it keeps you warm at nite because you just lost a lot of really dedicated fans and there love will not be there to keep you warm, nor will there disposable income. What a bunch of ass clowns.

Thanks! I was the same... one envelope. minimally decorated. I mailed it at 1pm pacific. There was a crazy long line at the post office. I dropped it in the slot because I had to get back to work. praying that didn't hurt my chances. I jump every time my phone alerts me to a new email. Just like everyone else who hasn't gotten a win or rejection, biting my nails. Visualizing the win.

At 11:13 this morning I received a confirming email from GDTS TOO. It had #320 in the subject line. But in all the confusion of MOs, 3x5 cards, SASE, etc. I do not remember if we were required to send 3 separate envelopes - one for each show? I know I did it EXACTLY how it was spelled out - but now I am unclear as to how it was to be done.Does anyone have a copy of the original directions? Or a link to them? [The GDTS TOO site pulled those directions after they got +60,000 mailings.] June is a long time to wait to see if I got 1 show or all 3 shows. I suppose if one keeps tracking the MOs - sooner or later they will cash them - and that will provide the answer. This will complete the circle for me - it started at the house on Haight Street in 1967 and it will end in Chicago. Miss ya Jerry.

so it looks like all the " haven't had a pink, but haven't had an email confirmation" peeps are still lingering this thread. I am in the same situation. I have totally driven myself bonkers with USPS website/phone and even the $6.10 tracking info -- so my main inquiry is: are people still receiving pink slips in mail ? have they sent all the rejection notices yet ?
