Grateful Dead Original Members To Perform Together Again One Last Time

Grateful Dead Original Members Reunite to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

“Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2015

Marks the Grateful Dead Members' Final Performance Together

    Event information available at Dead50.net

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead, the four original members — Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir — will reunite at Chicago's Soldier Field, nearly 20 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead concert, which took place at the same venue. “Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead" will occur over three nights on July 3, 4, and 5, 2015, marking the original members' last-ever performance together. The band will be joined by Trey Anastasio (guitar), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), and Bruce Hornsby (piano). The group will perform two sets of music each night.

Jerry Garcia's daughter Trixie Garcia announced the shows in an exclusive interview. You can check out her announcement here.

Joining the original members of Grateful Dead are three musicians who have embodied the band’s spirit of musical innovation throughout their eclectic careers. Guitarist Trey Anastasio is best known for his work as the principal songwriter and lead guitarist for touring juggernaut Phish, but he has also found time to score and arrange music for orchestras and Broadway productions such as “Best Musical” TONY nominee ‘Hands on a Hardbody.’ Pianist Bruce Hornsby had already won the first of his three Grammy Awards when he first guested with Grateful Dead in 1988. Following the death of the band’s keyboard player Brent Mydland in 1990, Hornsby toured with the group into 1992, and he has maintained a collaborative relationship with its members ever since. Bay Area native and jazz keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined Bob Weir’s Rat Dog in 1997, and has since worked on projects such as Phil Lesh & Friends, The Other Ones, The Dead, and Furthur.

In the tradition of the original Grateful Dead Ticketing Mail Order, tickets will first be made available via a first-come, first-served mail order system. All additional ticketing information is available at Dead50.net.

    Maybe a little..
Maybe a BIT still angry ;) Agreed about most of it, I feel horrible for those in limbo - I was not one. I got my pink slip two or three days before TM. As for TM, I really wish that they would do something about the bots. That debacle was totally foreseeable and (possibly) avoidable by making them all will-call like TXR. I understand that that would create HUGE backlogs at the box-office, but if they are available a week or so ahead of time, the number of people that got TM tix wouldn't make it a total crush... Yeah the airfare and hotel is a pain in the arse - I didn't buy anything until I knew I had tix. Still contemplating getting on my horse and trotting on down to see the circus. So for that - no disrespect brother. I just think that they at GDTS had it a lot rougher than we give them credit for - white card (btw - anyone need any index cards? I have 99 spares...) they all still represented deadicated heads trying to see the show...I know it ain't much, and things didn't go as planned, but meh, life moves on. I am listening to 1981-12-31 another great NYE party and wishing I wasn't a little kid then!

Well,.....I've moved through the stages of grief at being shut out, finally landing on acceptance, but I can't quite bring myself to praise GDTS for their work. At least if everyone had been notified of their status before the TM sale, there would have been a little less competition that morning and a lot less anxiety for some people. As far as making cuts, I also doubt GDTS had any tough decisions or lost any sleep over who got tix and who didn't. We're just names on random 3x5 cards. TM fumbled the ball too. Pulling up a ticket only to lose it because the system crashed is outrageous. And, if it's true that scalpers only got a small percentage of tickets, even one scalped ticket is one too many. I agree, road trips and the parking lot are fun but hearing the show from inside the venue has always been the most important thing for me. Always. I wouldn't mind it so much if I lived there and only had to spend a little gas money or metro fare to get to the stadium, but airfare and hotel is a big expense only to hang out in the parking lot and maybe watch the shows on a screen. Just my opinion and perhaps not a popular one. Anyway, I haven't canceled my reservations yet but it's looking more likely. Hmmm.....sounds like I'm still in the anger phase, doesn't it? I agree on one thing: I can still listen to the music and have good memories of shows past!

Dude, (assuming you are a guy), relax a little on the anger towards GDTS. They did their job and there was only so much that could be done. If you read the posts, there is a trend of people venting on them (which is cool) and then TM and the StubHub, but then it seems to mellow and move into acceptance...I am one of those people who is hoping for a miracle. The fact is, a lot of us got shut out. I don't blame GDTS for it - they were flooded with letters. Some people didn't play by the rules and sent in multiples and got all of their golden tickets...that is the way it goes. There are a lot of people here who didn't. That is also the way it goes. Just be happy we have the music man. That is what is important. Sure a golden ticket would be great (any of you out there feeling charitable, Klangstone and I both need tix!) but in the end, it is about the jams, the space, the road trips and the life in the parking lot. So if you have seen them before, remember the fun it was, if you haven't, either go to live music archive and pick pretty much ANY show and have a blast. Getting mad at the people at GDTS won't solve anything and in fact, I still think they should be praised for their work - that would have sucked to have to make cuts like they did. And for Chinook, who just got out of limbo, a couple of things, congrats on your tix, have fun in Chicago, and YES you got all 3 nights if you put in for all three nights! Again, congrats and if you want to miracle one or two...I know some people! :)

TALKIN' ABOUT "FARE THEE WELL: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF GRATEFUL DEAD"

“I have a feeling this will come out just right. Can’t wait to find out…HERE WE GO!” - Mickey Hart

"The Grateful Dead lived an incredible musical story and now we get to write a whole new chapter. By celebrating our 50th, we get to cheer our past, but this isn't just about history. The Grateful Dead always played improvisational music that was born in the moment and we plan on doing the same this round." - Bill Kreutzmann

“It is with respect and gratitude that we reconvene the Dead one last time to celebrate - not merely the band's legacy, but also the community that we’ve been playing to, and with, for fifty years,” - Phil Lesh "Wave that flag, wave it wide and high…"

"Lookin' forward to this one, oh boy, you bet. Let's see just how much fun we can have this 4th of July." - Bob Weir<

Haven't seen any happy posts for a few hours. Are the numbers in the emails section numbers? Highest number I've seen is 324. Anybody higher? Section 340 is the last non obstructed view. My understanding from the original instruction was the cheap seat were in Section 300. Still hoping

Fla deadhead, No one knows for sure, but I would guess the good folks at GDTSTOO are expending all their time and energy filling orders for tickets and trying their best to notify those ticket holders before Saturday morning while the return envelops sit unattended. I think many of the rejections will come after this weekend. Bummer!!! Good luck to all who are waiting for the holy grail of all emails. Thanks to the band, and to all who are making this great opportunity happen for us. Best

Email numbers are not section numbers in the stadium, #324 was likely the 324th request honored cuz my seats were premium reserved, likely 100 level. But I could be wrong.

Doing the math if I was #324 and ordered 2 seats for 3 shows, there's about half of the mail order confirmations left to to be sent out....the seating has been expanded today... I think there's plenty of hope provided 6000 or so requests will be honored via mail order.

I disagree with you 100%. If the band was greedy they would be doing a multi-city tour, to sell more tickets... But you state you are not going to the shows, but are going to buy tickets and sell them for a profit...that is a scalper...geez If people do not buy tickets from scalpers the scalper business will disapear. I think ticket prices are VERY reasonable, and looking forward to a great holiday weekend with my wife and 2 daughters. Best wishes!!

I am so glad to be a part of history in the making... whichever way it turns out for us and the show! We have no rejection letter and no email but I sure did have fun decorating the envelope :) It reminded me of much simpler times... and was inspirational in a lot of ways. I love that there is still so much excitement around the music, family, and philosophy... sometimes you look around and wonder what must've happened to all that and then here it is!! Jerry would be proud! Last time I knew he was still watching over was at the Family Reunion at Alpine Valley when Robert Hunter sang Ripple and that huge rainbow appeared across the sky... I'm sure he'll be hanging around Chicago here soon!! Can't wait to be there and share the magic once more. Fingers still crossed....

My husband and I printed all the CID packages out, had them lined up on the kitchen counter with two iPads going to look at hotel locations and seating chart, going over plan B - when his iPad buzzed. I said there's the email, we look, and there it was! Thank you!!! See y'all there.

The other day I was just thinking of Alpine Valley- and how excited everyone was just to be there and then also about Robert Hunter and how he sang Ripple and the rainbow came out - and then I searched to see if I could find a recording of it but I couldn't and do you know - because it was so many years ago I started to wonder if maybe I embellished that part- but you remember too!!!

Earlier this week when I checked the status of my USPS Money orders, (five total), I got the message, "Does not match our records". When I checked the status again this evening, I got the message, "No information is available for serial number". Makes me wonder now about the prominent theory that's been floating around, "Matches our records" = NOT CASHED; "Does not match our records"= CASHED -- was more about wishful thinking for those that got the message, "Does not match our records", rather than factual. Will know what the Deal is soon enough.

Happy Birthday to you too my friend! May all you birthday wishes come true! One thing we noticed yesterday is that it is possible at this point to get an email notification w/o having your Money Orders cashed. My guess is that at this point they are just filling orders and sending emails and are going to cash later. I literally think they are working around the clock! In response to an earlier comment about "does not match," I'm pretty sure that if your mo's "Do not match" I'll see you in Chi Town! Best of luck to you all!

No email. No pink slip. I sure hope GDTSTOO will announce when they have sent the last of their emails out. It seems to me that the folks I have heard of getting tickets requested for all three shows. In my attempt not to be greedy and therefore increase my chances I only requested tickets for one night. Maybe that was my mistake? Anyone out there get an email for only one show? Please post if you get an email today and post your city. I live in MI.Good luck tomorrow!!

Today I just realized that I unconsciously had taken a complete break from listening to the dead since I received my rejection letter some 11 days back. Nor have I bothered to visit this site that I so often frequent to check out the boards & put on the taper's section. I guess I was so disappointed that I had to just step away for a while. Been listening to some Grant Green Jazz, Little Feat & even 90's alternative rock. Today I am checking the website first time since then & see that there are plenty of lucky ones that get to be a part of this epic event. That's good news, enjoy.

Went to bed last night in limbo. Woke up and checked email... Email came at 11:31:54 #385 all three nights, $212.50 tickets, one envelope, no art, sent in from Minneapolis area, post marked January 20, USPS MO's have not been cashed as of this morning. My wife is taking credit because she filled out the envelope and 3x5. My handwriting sucks. Good luck to all!

Because of our children and figuring out work / flights / kid coverage, we only requested one night. one envelope. I was wondering the same thing... did that hurt my chances or help? I see lots of people getting all three nights and multiple tickets filled. It would be nice if they would share the love and fill the single show requests before granting multiple nights... but I know they have a crazy big job of figuring out ticket fulfillment. No pink slip. No email. No word on MO as I've called too many times. waiting. . . visualizing that wonderful email coming today. In Playa Del Rey, CA staying hopeful. Good luck!!! hope to see you all in Chicago.

Greetings all: After 5 weeks of intense anticipation I was unfortunate to have received the dreaded pinky. However, I do live in the Chicago area and I am next to public transportation to and from the city. I am offering any family oriented person/group housing accommodations in exchange for a single golden ticket. I can accommodate up to 4. This offer includes pick up and drop off at airport as well. Imagine not having to deal with making transportation or housing plans after this long wait. Your chariot awaits. Please consider this invitation when making your plans to visit our great city. Tried to get tickets this morning since there was still no word... missed out on that with the system crash.Just got our rejection letter. Not sure when it was sent out because there was no date on the envelope... Really hoping that luck shines down on us tomorrow. P.S. We were in one of our poorest hours when we found out about mail order, so we were only able to send money for one night, two tickets.

For all of you wondering how/why some folks got selected and some didn't, here's my guess at what the process was: Folks at GDTSTOO received 60k envelopes. "Oh shit, what are we going to do"? "We can only fill approximately 10% of these. We can't possibly go through them all and pull out the ones with nice artwork,or determine who is a long-time mail order customer, or who is a friend of a friend, so lets randomly take 10% out of each envelope and send the rest back". Something like that. I imagine that rather than doing all the sorting first, they're going through each bin and selecting 10% for winners, processing accordingly, then sending emails as they get them. Repeating that process over and over. That's why emails are coming in spurts and pink slips are coming in spurts. Just my 2 cents. Still hoping for an email.

Tried to get tickets this morning through CID. System crashed and by the time I got through everything was sold out. My GDTSTOO mail order is in limbo. No email and no Western Union money orders cashed. Hoping for the best and expecting the worst. No bad feelings towards Phil, Bobby, Billy and Mickey. I still love these guys no matter what happens. Hopefully I can get tickets through TM as a last resort. I refuse to buy tickets through scalpers. I hope they eat the tickets that the real Dead Heads should have gotten. All, I'm new to the sight but all these posts have kept my hopes alive through the long wait. Just wanted to let you all know that I paid for the USPS Money Order Inquiry and a nice lady at the Accounting Customer Service desk you end up at when you call the money order validation line (866-459-7822) confirmed my money orders have been cashed. However, I have yet to receive a confirmation email from GDTS TOO. That being said, there has to be more confirmation emails coming!! Stay positive and keep hope alive!!

I just came back from the Post Office - I paid $6.10 apiece to have 3 MOs traced. Then they told me I would receive a letter in 5-7 business days. I said I thought you could tell me right now - she said they don't have access to that info - they forward the request to some other PO entity that manages that. Well that was certainly a waste of money. Then I came back home and tried the phone number (866-459-7822) that Bright Blue listed. That just got me to a recorded menu that confirmed that each MO was valid - but nothing about whether they had been cashed or not. I never got to talk to a live person
