    Afterthoughts
So... Sitting here at the office on my first day back at work since the Chicago shows. First of all, it was one helluva weekend! While the music was always the priority for me, I'd forgotten the sense of community one can feel at a concert. The crowd for all three shows was into it, and they showed the love. I'll never forget the whole crowd singing "you know our love will not fade away" for the entire break between the end of NFA and until Phil came out prior to the 1st Encore. The atmosphere was electric inside the stadium every night. While I have been to MANY concerts and sporting events over the years, it dawned on me that I hadn't felt that feeling since... well... 20 years ago when I attended my last Grateful Dead show at RFK Stadium in 1995. I won't wax poetic about whether or not these were "great Grateful Dead shows" or not. I will simply say that I had a fabulous time. I thought Friday night's show was the strongest, followed by Sunday and then Saturday, but I enjoyed them all. And the 1st Set on Friday was REALLY good. How many times could you say after a GD show that the 1st Set was better than the 2nd Set (especially when the 2nd Set included a Scarlet>Fire AND a Help>Slipknot>Franklin's)? Personal highlights for me were: 1) opening with "Box of Rain" (after all, the end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end); 2) "Passenger"(!!??!!), which they nailed; 3) Scarlet>Fire; 4) encoring with "Ripple" on Friday night; 5) "Shakedown Street" and "Deal" to bookend the 1st Set on Saturday; 6) "The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)... Are you kidding me?!!?; 7) a really beautiful "Stella Blue"; 8) Trey singing "Althea"; and 10) a very fitting, and haunting "Days Between". I'm not a big Phish fan... I like some of their stuff, but I've never really been into them. But for anyone who was/is/or will be negative about the selection of Trey... they can kiss it, because I thought he was fantastic!! His enthusiasm alone was great, but I thought he really shined through and he should be proud of the performances he gave. All-in-all, it was a fantastic experience. I'm so glad I went. It was closure to a certain degree, but man was it a good party! See you all down the road. Be kind.

    amazing weekend
That was an amazing three nights and ones that will remain with me till the end of my days. To me, night one was strongest-- truly not a weak link in that setlist and it smoked. The Help/Slipknot/Franklin's Tower to close was simply amazing. Having seen many fine shows over the past 30 years (GD, Clapton, Stones, myriad blues artists), that night ranks up near the top for live events I have attended. Some of it is that so many circumstances fell into place to make the entire night perfect-- and then the music made it ever more perfect. Night two highlights: Standing on the Moon, not one of my favorites, was delivered beautifully by Trey-- I had tears flowing the whole song. Golden Road was hot and Foolish Heart jammed. Trey really delivered all weekend-- big props to him. Night three was about delivering needed songs-- Estimated, China/Rider. Set two had a purpose-- songs about closure, togetherness and the sense of moving on. While the last two nights had a couple ballads I could have done without, I saw where they were going and enjoyed it. BTW, they did show Keith and Donna in the slide show. They did it a little awkwardly by transitioning from showing a bunch of random slides to all of a sudden showing each individual member. The crowd didn't realize it until Brent came up.

Oh, and don't take anything I say for fact (other than my own status), I am not a source of information. In fact, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! I've been talking out my @ss the whole time! Well maybe not all BS, I am quoting real prices from e-bay. Don't give in people! Please resist temptation, the shows will be epic for sure, but will it be worth that kind of money? Not even with Jerry in his prime. These guys are old and it will not be like the old days, so why support the scalpers? It reinforces a broken system... Since Jan. 20 it sure has been a long hard ride (for me personally).

The dead picked Shapiro and willingly used ticketmaster, FACT. Ticketmaster has capabilities to do all sorts of pre-sales (fan club etc.), but those were cancelled by the band not ticketmaster, FACT. Not many tickets for mail order, FACT. The band went through with mail order knowing there were few tickets, FACT. The band acts humbled at the response, WELL DOCUMENTED FACT. The band (BOB WEIR) while humbled at the overwhelming response was miraculously able to gain a spot on major network TV, yet they didn't expect this response, and he acted cocky as usual on the show, FACT. Shapiro mentioned opening the venue to 360 degree seating but I never heard any final word on that, FACT. They opened it up 360, FACT. Behind and Side Stage where my only choices for 3 day tickets at 10:00:05, FACT(which I didn't get). STOP FOR A MINUTE, HOW CAN SIDE AND BEHIND STAGE BE THE ONLY TICKETS FOR SALE, THERE WAS NO PRE-SALE, EVERYTHING SOLD OUT BUT BEHIND AND SIDE BEFORE THE PUBLIC SALE, THATS A LOT OF VIP(WHICH I COULDNT GET EITHER)???? Moving on.......Ticket prices have been advertised from $59.95-$195.95 but the only people who got tix through ticketmaster were behind the stage nosebleeds for $200,FACT!!!!! THE BAND IS ULTIMATELY TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I just wish phil, bobby and the rest of the band had the BALLS to look their FANS in the face and admit the TRUTH!!!! Some lovable hippies they turned out to be, THEY CAN FUCK OFF!!!!!!!! no tickets for sale except $200 no view nosebleeds, really, nothing for sale in front of the stage, that sure is convenient for what ever deals are OBVIOUSLY in place with secondary outlets.P.S. my grapes stayed fresh trough mail order denial, vip/package denial, and even ticketmaster denial. My grapes SOURED when i had a chance to step back and add up 2 and 2. SHAPIRO= DON KING, and he was HAND PICKED by "the boy"( who are acting like a bunch of faggots).

I've been coming on a few times a day, reading everyone's posts trying to get a handle on the mo situation. SO many sad disappointed heads getting denied and I had given up hope that I'd get my order filled. I've been shutout of mail orders before from the band but this was it- no more - even though Jerry died a long time ago. It felt so concrete this time and I just wanted to feel that togetherness once more - hanging with my peeps, dancing to the boys. I was one of the 10% lucky ones and had my order filled. I'm elated and feel so grateful but so sad. A lot of friends were denied and are no longer planning the trip. But then in the last 36 hours, I've heard from friends who I'd lost contact with due to life's changes. They were the lucky ones too and wanted to make plans. Bringing us all together again, one last time to party in the lots and dance the nights away. It felt like the way the band wanted it to feel- coming from all over the country to meet in Chicago on this celebration weekend. I don't think the band ever imagined that this would become so bitter and negative - they had a great idea. My story is true to that. I'm sorry for the true fans who felt like me and I hope you get your miracle.

(that is 50% of the fun) Do you know what kind of vacation you could go on for 1000+ dollars A cruise,Mexico,Europe....Get a life people...they are 70 year old Grandfathers accept for trey..Drums is the only thing that is going to sound good..So go take that real vacation and have a week of real entertainment..Most of you have been to 10+ dead concerts when jerry was around THIS IS SO FUCKING OVERRATED IT IS FUNNY

I wonder how all these negative comments would tail if the unhappy people got tickets. What has happened? Too bad we've become so spoiled w our Palm pilots and laptops. Long ago there was "only mail in". Don't be angry w the band! We live in a free inter price situation. We too are all responsible. Let's not throw poison in the wind for those who are going.

I tried on ticketmaster. My browser returned errors from tickemaster but then returned a "wait on this page do not leave wait time X minutes page. The page never updated. This was a really bad situation that many of us experienced because it prevents you from trying again. You have failed, or the system has failed but you are told otherwise, and then told nothing at all. What has most likely happened is that as the system scales up or deals with crashes your session is lost. Few systems are perfect, but the correct way to do with system failure is to report it. The page should at some time"sorry session lost please try again". Or the system should scale so sessions are not lost. This is broken for the following reasons, once you have a spot in the queue you should be able to know that you are still in the queue. What they most likely have done is invest very little into the infrastructure to make this fair, or to make it work well. Any errors they produce are inconsequential, a scalper or someone else will buy the tickets after all. Their bottom line is not affected either way. Scalpers, robots, humans it is all the same to them. They have very little interest in making this more fair. I would also assume that the scalper bots work to create or exacerbate the issues that ticketmaster has. Because it is a closed private system we have no insight. But once again, why would they care? A scalable fault tolerant system that works and favors humans over robots could be built. The technology is available. Not cheaply, by my standards, but certainly cheap for Tickemaster. Certainly cheaper than the wall of sound. Certainly for less than a small fraction of the money orders sitting in Stinson Beach. Would we all get tickets? Of course not, but it would be a fair working transparent system. Really it is not rocket science, similar problems have been solved by all the big web companies. The technology is out there. The fact that TicketMaster does not fix this issue is a sign of how little they care about customer service. As long as a ticket is bought, and for them hopefully resold, they get paid. Putting TicketMaster, a careless sloppy middle man between the fans and the band, particular a band that has tried to break down those barriers as much as possible is so unfortunate. Many bands have had to fight ticketmaster, I hope the fight continues. The boys have innovated in sound, in how bands relate to fans, it is time that a better, functional, transparent, distributed ticket queue system is implemented and used. --

nope, if i had extras i would sell them here at face value. figured I would throw it out there if anyone who double scored tickets wanted to recoup their cash right away. i myself was denied as many of us here. but stuff happens, and was looking fwd. to taking my two boys and wife to their first/last show to let them know the environment in which i grew up in, touring from 86'-95' definitely molded me in to the person I am today. and there's nothing quite like the vibe of a GD show. so sorry if people saw my last post of me selling tickets, just hoping fate has her eyes on me :)

I am aware of supply and demand and strongly believe in it. LIKE I SAID EARLIER I JUST WISH THEY WOULD PUT THEIR FACE WITH THEIR ACTIONS. they have time to raise prices on ticketmaster but not respond to those in limbo on mail order. ticketmaster didn't raise the price, the dead did, its not up to ticketmaster to set prices. the package sale was a resale ONLY MEANT to gauge everyones interest, after they saw the success, they scurried to get tickets to the secondary outlets where they could get street values. AGAIN I JUST WISH THEY WOULD OWN IT AND QUIT LETTING EVERYBODY BLAME TICKETMASTER, WHO EVERYONE HAS KNOWN THEIR TACTICS FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

what a joke! never tried to get a ticket! wouldn't go if you paid me, I'd rather buy a nice piece of Jerry art, pick a favorite 80's show and sit down with a cold beer and remember the good times we had when Jerry played the band then go to Chicago and watch some money hungry people with their hands out. Let's hope after these shows they go out in style with a free show in Golden Gate park where everybody can afford to go!!!

So I had to check out the stub hub seats, after hearing about the ridiculous prices, and its all true. On Stub Hub alone, 34 GA PIT tix for $3,000 plus each...HMMMMMM I thought pit tix were only for mail order....meanwhile upper level seats are listed as high as 13,000 +, oh and then there is the GA floor for $116,000, LOLWhoever gets in better bring your camera for paparazzi photos I guess... I surely hope the dead community can stand together on this and drive these prices all the way down where they belong by showtime Meanwhile, ANYBODY GET A GOLDEN EMAIL TODAY?????????????????????????????????????????????? CASH FOR YOUR EXTRA'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST NEED 1 PER NIGHT OR 1 AT ALL, can also provide transportation to and from airport for you and possibly trade nice place to sleep for 1 person, I NEED A MIRACLE!! crunzo@hotmail.com, Haven't been on forum long because I am not a computer person, not on facebook, still listen to cassettes sometimes, but am a "True" deadhead, hospice nurse too so that makes me especially deadicated, lol

The only tickets that were sold at face value were the very few sold through mail order. Even tix sold on ticketmaster were hiked up (behind the stage nosebleeds for$200 the night before listed at$59). You want proof? Anyone out there get face value? floor tix? reserved seating? Pit? Nothing, only behind or side stage huh? oh yeah, stub hub and ticket outlets have all of the above, that's strange seeing how only behind and side stage were ever actually sold. You do the math. Pretty sneaky huh. They want to know exactly how much we'll pay before they really sell them.

DONT BUY FROM SCALPERS OR STUBHUB ETC. The show is not sold out, just look at ticket masters website. they can change the site at the drop of a hat but won't change it to read SOLD OUT. Thats because it's not. They are in the middle of selling the biggest lot of BULLSHIT TICKETS THAT NEVER, I MEAN NEVER EXISTED IN THE HISTORY OF CONCERTS. what i mean is ticketmaster owns/has interest in ALL of these so-called "secondary outlets", but they aren'tsecondary at all, they (the stub hubs of the world) are actually the first time the tickets are sold. Ticketmaster puts them immediately to these outlets to force you to pay higher, if they aren't sold either ticketmaster can re-release them or drop the prices on their SISTER SITES. HOLD OUT, IF YOU DO THE PRICES WILL DROP FOR US ALL. The bands choose ticketmaster EXACTLY FOR THESE REASONS ALONE, otherwise they would sell them themselves, they do everything else on their own, why do you think they let ticketmaster in on it in the first place.... so ticketmaster looks the asshole and because they are masters at getting the most out of a ticket, hence ticketmaster.

Hey everybody, This is no relief for those who were not fortunate enough to get tickets, but none of these ass hole sellers have the tickets yet. They are posting inflated pricing for tickets that they do not have and do not own...yet. They sell the tickets first then acquire in hope to make a profit. Unfortunately this happens with all major sporting events, concerts and the stock market (futures). No one has tickets yet! The tickets probably will not be printed for several months. Look, I am pissed off about the secondary market too, but the band and the good folks at GDTSTOO are not to blame. Be happy that we are getting these three shows whether you get in or not. Good luck to all who may be holding out with no response yet. Gratefully, jp

I can only speak for myself, but my opinion is not based on the fact that I didn't get tickets. In fact, I didn't even try to get tickets today through Scalpmaster because I was too disgusted with the whole scene culminating with the CID farce yesterday. I'm not trying to kill anyone's buzz that is going to the show, but I felt it was important to let the band and the community know that I was extremely disappointed with the way things went down.

For the record, its understandable why a chicago bears fan would resale for whatever they can get. its also understood that 99.9% of the deadheads with extras will not let them go at face value(like they all say they will), they too will sell them for a great profit along with paying their way with that money. WHAT IS DISGRACEFUL IS FOR BOB WEIR, PHIL LESH, BILL K, AND MICKEY H. TO RESORT TO MAKING MONEY THIS WAY. LET TICKETMASTER HANDLE THIS, AND TO THIS EXTENT? THEY ALL KNEW, AND I STRESS, WANTED THESE TICKETS TO SKYROCKET. IF THEY CARED ABOUT THE FANS AT ALL THEY WOULD EITHER SEE TO IT THAT TICKETS ARE SOLD FOR WHAT THEY ARE STATED OR BE MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT THAT YOU TOO, BOB,PHIL, BILL AND MICKEY ARE MATERIALISTIC AND WANT EVERY PENNY YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET FROM THIS. YOU CANT HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. YOU CANT GO AROUND BE ALL "FREE LOVIN' " AND SPIRITUAL AND KARMA AND ALL THAT HIPPY SHIT WHEN YOU FUCK THE PEOPLE WHO MADE YOU RICH IN THE ASS YOU BASTARDS! I WAS FINE WITH THE FACT THAT IT WASNT MY DAY WHEN IT CAME TO GETTING TICKETS, IM NOT FINE WITH PUSSIES BEING PUSSIES AND GETTING RICH DOING IT, AND WONT EVEN ADMIT IT, BECAUSE PEOPLE ARENT SMART ENOUGH TO ASK.

I wish I knew what to do. I sent my mail order early the 20th. I was online with 4 devices and got nothing. I booked and paid Priceline for hotel, The Intercontinental and airfare. Didn't want to take a chance of no hotel or flights. Only wanted Sat and Sunday tickets (2) my first vacation in 5 years because of the economy. My wife and I have been going to shows together for 40 years. I can't believe I can't get tickets. I will not pay the secondary market prices. I just can't bring myself to do it. Wasn't there a better way..you know the dead way..find a better way. Why a promoter in the first place..do they need to promote this.....why Chicago...a promoters decision while waving money in there face. Could have learned things from phish on how to put on a big outdoor bash while celebrating the fans..yea...celebrating the fans. You know people like me who have spent countless hours enjoying the music and countless dollars on concerts, albums, cd's tapes..whatever. I love you guys and gals. We deserved better

The gold old folks at GD are DUMBER THAN SHIT. First off today of all days, they send an email to ask if I'm interested in sharing with them any stories of how great they are. Then their STUPID ASSES go and brag about setting a record with 500,000 going for tix. 4 of those devices were mine. like many of other deadheads i had multiple devices going. So lets do the math..... if the avg head used just 2 devices divide that by the 500,000 and you get 250,000. Now..... out of the 250,000 actual heads on the net trying to get tix only a hand full come up with tix? and there was a total of 3 shows@ 60,000 seats.... that's 180,000 individual tix to go around for 250,000 heads. I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THOSE ODDS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead HARDLY ANY heads seem to have gotten tix, not many considering 250,000 hippies with at least 2 devices huh. But MAGICALLY secondary outlets have them and no heads. NEWS FLASH FOR THE STOOOOOOOOPID FUCKERS affiliated with the GD website...........QUIT TELLING EVERYONE HOW FULL OF SHIT YOU ARE, you are telling your dirty little secrets by letting us know (BY BRAGGING) how many of us tried, TO NO AVAIL, to get tickets, yet SOOOOOO MAAAANNNNY websites did. I'm guesstimating that most on this sit e ARE TRUE HEADS LIKE THE 250,000 who tried earlier. With 160,000 available seats YOU WOULD THINK more of US had them.

I'd pay full price to see a hologram simulcast at Shoreline - like they did with Tupac at Coachella 2012 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGbrFmPBV0Y). I'd actually prefer to see a hologram simulcast in a smaller venue over seeing the real show from nosebleed seats. Hell, they could even have Jerry sit in :).
