MY BROTHER BOUGHT ME TICKETS FOR BOTH NIGHTS!
Eric Abrahamson At my age, it's already predetermined that I'm not going to go to all that trouble unless I like it. The glass is either half-full or half-empty. Nobody twisted my arm, put me in a headlock, and made me listen to it-I think it's cool. I asked my brother for money to go, and he gave me 2 tickets. My friend Billy "Buzzboy" Rose, "Wavy Gravy's adopted son", used to be a Grateful Dead roadie, he got me backstage at the first show I went to after I met him, so I think they're good to me. My other friend, Richie Shirley, from the Hog Farm, was in the backstage Crew, traveled around the country with them and sold official T-shirts, and his wife, Andrea, "Mom", the cook at Camp Winnarainbow, used to work in their office in San Rafael and they had an apartment there. I met Richie and Billy at Woodstock where the Hog Farm was the Security and the Please Force, so you kids who pan them, fuck you and your worthless idiot opinions. You've never even been there yet, if you ever get there, at this rate. I think they were the best rock and roll band that ever was, and the Rolling Stones was #2, and I've seen them both. Compared to what, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir? The technology is pretty good for playing in a stadium as big, new, and modern as that. They can hear everything you say and see everything you do, and my brother bought me a ticket way up in the back. In between songs this kid 10 rows down says, "Shoot him!" and I go, "I have a gun!" and immediately they started into "Loser", "If I had a gun/For every ace I have drawn/I could arm a town/The size of Abilene!" I don't like it when they get that personal, ad hominem, but I'm still a fan, because even if they ever had a bad day, they recorded plenty of *good* days, which can always happen, always *do* happen at least a little bit, and silicon is immortal. Great light show. The only problem is with the critics and nay-sayers, who have pre-judged it all instead of, "Judge not!"--like "prejudiced". They already don't like it, they were prepared not to like it--there is nothing the band could have done or could do that they would have liked or would like. It's against their religion. It couldn't be worse if they sang traditional Moslem hymns to Allah in Arabic. They probably know how. There was a day when *everybody* liked it, even my parents. They were the #2 top-grossing entertainment act for 2 years in a row; #1 was Bill Cosby, by concerts, not by record sales, by word-of-mouth, household names, I remember. Nobody listened to that thing about rock-and-roll being "the Devil's music", and if you play it backwards it says, "Hail, Satan!" In my opinion, the Church rejects dancing, "worldly", as opposed to gospel or spiritual music, commercial music, art, literature, drama, culture, one of the reasons, because it's linked in their mind with pagan religion, which certainly applies to the Grateful Dead. However, I would argue that when the Christians converted the Roman Empire and tore down the Pagan temples, later they incorporated some of the features of the pagan religions into their own, from what I've heard. For example, do they say that the gods and goddesses of the polytheistic pantheons of the ancient cultures like Greece, Italy, Egypt, Babylonia are really One, the Lord God of the Old Testament? Or it says on Wikipedia that the Lord God of the Old Testament was the war god of the Phoenicians, like Mars Hill, though I don't see why not the head god Jupiter, Zeus, Ra, or Aten, where Moses got it. Then the Christians say Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, the Trinity is One, with Jesus Christ being the Son, a bow to pagan polytheism, but just 3. But they also have the Virgin Mary, who some say is Mother Earth, lots of saints and angels, etc. They say the 30,000 Roman and Greek gods were angels and demons, it's confusing, but some of them were like the Christian God in some ways. For example, Zeus sounds like "deus", which means "God". Jupiter, the Roman for Zeus, has also the name "Jove", which sounds like "Jehovah", which is translated "LORD" in the Old Testament. I read that the Christians used features from the Eleusinian Mysteries of Demeter, the Earth Mother in the Mass, the table, I think, maybe cups, candles, etc. to attract pagans. Some of the saints represent pagan deities from other cultures, and now they become Christian. The Greeks and Romans also had animal sacrifices like the Jews in the Tabernacle and Temple. Lots of their gods had wings like the Jewish angels, like Cupid, Victory, and Iris, the Rainbow. Maybe Moses got the snake on the pole from Mercury's Caduceus, and Asculepius the healer. The Elysian Fields is similar to the Christian Heaven, and Hades to the Christian Hell. Of course, there are just as many differences as similarities. Online I saw a book by the Church Father St. Clement where he uses Ulysses tied to the mast not to hear the Sirens' Song in Homer's "Odyssey" as an example of successfully resisting temptation, "Epistle to the Greeks". Of course, the Pope and the Vatican have always been in Rome. The Father represents Odin from Norse Germanic neo-Paganism, and Thor Jesus in a way. The word "Holle", "hell", isn't in the Bible, it's in the Norse "Eddas". *Valhalla* was their "Heaven". They mixed it with the Jewish Old Testament, the Greek and Roman paganism, etc. They included some of the old Jewish Mosaic prohibitions. Religion has art, music, literature, architecture, and Greek religion was somewhat based on plays. The Old Testament Tabernacle and Temple had a lot of art, sculpture, music, and architecture, and the Bible itself really is man-made literature. They just want a monopoly and no competition, and to control the State. A lot of art, music, literature, architecture, and sculpture got it's start in religion and then some Christians object for those artisans to become commercial, to use it for money, because they want to control the money, which is also man-made. It belongs to the person whose picture is on the money, who owns the metal mines, the mints, and who coins the money. "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." There *is* no picture of God. Some of the Caesars, Roman Emperors, made the people worship them as gods. Constantine himself was Apollo the Sun-God before he was a Christian. Go figure. Another reason the Church may prohibit "drugs, sex, rock-and-roll, drinking, smoking, and cussing", besides Scripture, as well as art, music, literature, theatre, and culture, science, technology, medicine, "the works of men's hands", the prohibition on idolatry, "make no graven image","bow down to no graven image", well that's another one. *Another* one, "God has made everything sufficient, but they have sought out many inventions." But the Church wants the money that people spend on entertainment, art, music, literature, plays, to go to them. Maybe they *did* think they were all being guided by *God* when they were on LSD and they were deceived by the Devil, "caught in the Devil's bargain", "Satan Himself appears as an Angel of Light to deceive if He can the very Elect," but they were experimenting and they thought they were right. Maybe if you got psychedelic by fasting 40 days in the desert those are true, not Satanic, visions. I think they came true for some of them; potentially could have come true for a lot more. Ram Dass called them "entheogens, 'theo', Greek for 'God', 'God-manifesting', you see God, become One with God, become God". "I am That I am." "I and the Father are One." "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father." "I said ye are gods; nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes." "We are as gods, and we might as well get good at it." The only psychedelic church I ever heard of was the Native American Church in New Mexico, who had a cross on the altar. They converted all the American Indians to Christianity, but they can still do some traditional Indian things they all (or at least some of them) like to do, just to preserve the culture for posterity. People are always interested in what happened in the past; it's valuable information. The price of Indian jewelry has gone up at least 100x in my lifetime, as it becomes more scarce, as they become lost arts, and they were better before the Wasichus came. There's that Jesse Colin Young song, "Before You Came", how great the Indians had it. A lot of pagan spirituality is a lot higher than a lot of Western spirituality; it's the same thing. If you call the Virgin Mary the Earth Mother, or Father God, Mother Earth, or the Yin-Yang, that's Paganism, or different forms of it, generally speaking. Freud in "Moses and Monotheism", says the Egyptian polytheism was better than the Egyptian monotheism, because when Iknaton switched them to Aten, the One God form of the Sun God Ra, he made Pharoah Iknaton at the top of the "pyramid", with all the ranks of nobles, courtiers, priests, and common people. With the polytheistic system, Isis, Osiris, all that, even though it's true what the Christians say, they worshipped animals, crocodiles, cattle, ibises, hawks, birds, elephants, lions, etc., as the Christians say, "brute beasts", power was more diffuse throughout society, less centered in the king. And he says they were more prosperous, too, with polytheism, that their society declined with monotheism, they overthrew Iknaton, called him a heretic, and restored polytheism. That was why one of the reasons Moses had to get out, to preserve the monotheistic concept somewhere else by founding a new religion. He was raised by the Pharaoh's daughter. There are traces of the Egyptian roots in Moses' writings; he uses the Hebrew word "Elohim", "gods", plural, for "LORD God", and "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," admitting they exist, but fighting them, and "Who is like unto Thee, among the gods?" "You're the best!" I don't know; I'm not a theologian. I just had a year of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Yale, and graduated from Mountain Heights neo-Pentecostal Bible College in 1974. I saw the Jupiter-Venus conjunction in Leo tonight, the same as the Star of Bethlehem. It was out for about an hour. Astrology is from paganism, too, and probably the Dead used an astrologer when they set up the stadium dates as a Christian joke, although who knows how forgiving the Christians can be about that. The Bible accuses those who "worship the host of heaven upon the housetops" and they said that meant the pagan Babylonian astrologers. But the Christians reject a lot of other things the Jews said, like the rule against pork. Maybe that verse condemns the Roman astrologers, too. I read that not only were the Romans, and Greeks, into that, but they had augurs, or prophecies by things like the flight of birds, which might signify things like victory or defeat in war, or they'd read the entrails of animals they sacrificed, like tea leaves, or "sibyls" at the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi would prophecy the future in poetry, Socrates had a "inner god" that told him what to do. The Christians say "abandon all that" and then years later when you're "mature in the Lord" it wasn't so bad, and won't really hurt you, "all things are pure to him who is pure", "nothing is unclean of itself", etc. This issue is "if __________ makes my brother to stumble, I will eat no ____________," "Blessed is the man who is not condemned by the thing he alloweth," and something about the "commandments of men". I'm going to write more on another post so it isn't too long.

People with unusually serious mental issues and/or repetitive behavior problems should probably seek more professional help than can be found by monopolizing this board.

Try spothero.com will find very affordable locations for parking. Found a place for $35 per day for a 24 hour period. Considering parking will be at a premium, $35 is cheap.

for a grilled cheese and some purple kush. Gotta be gouda on the sammie though !! I would have a hard time paying over face value but not if Pigpen, Garcia, Godchaux, Mydland, Welnick, and the rest of the characters were playing at these Chicago shows. With Bill Graham introducing and Bear mixing. But they are not, so its really more about the event and spectacle than the music at this point for myself. I like the line-up for these shows, but a comment that got me laughing. They said, "I cant wait to hear Troy sing Casey Jones"

"View" meaning a view of the stage"No view" meaning no view of the stage Yes, that's right. They sold tickets for high prices that have absolutely no view of the stage or the band. SCUMHUB is actually reselling these "no view" tickets for 4 figures. Come on people, PLEASE DON'T BUY THEM!

I managed to get 2 behind the stage after some 20-30 tries. That's after multiple screen hangs, no matching seats, etc. Was willing to pay the vip rates, even the travel rates, but they were sold out even before the page loaded. I think that there will probably be another batch of tickets released. If not or I don't score a view seat in a future ticket release, I will likely buy from a scalper as much as would rather not. But I'm already easily $5000 into it with airfare, hotel, ground transportation, food, etc...oh and $153 for two tickets. Ironically, all to sit in a stadium and watch a video in a no view seat. The way I'm thinking (hoping) is the no-view seat gets me in the door. Who knows where I actually end up. other thoughts: - Selling no view tickets is bullsh1t. Optimistically, I'm thinking that last Saturday's sale was mostly no view seats meant to drain cash from would be scalpers so they can't purchase in a later ticket release. But, I'm sure that's a pipe dream and the real reason is all out greed. - Selling 3 day passes is also bullsh1t. That automatically locks out 2 other people from seeing a show. Spread the wealth. - I'm hoping that one can roam so as to at least get a view or actually face the speakers for a short period. - I'm hoping security will fold on the floor. You have some x thousands of people with no view seats nevermind people in nose-bleed seats facing the stage. Do you think they will want to get a view? - The mail order was handled poorly. Multiple envelopes should get your ticket requests thrown in the trash. Give out a max of two tix per request. Spread the wealth. - I heard there was a pre-sale to Bears fans. WTF? Really? - Get rid of scalpers. Easy to do by simply putting the buyer's name on the ticket and make them non-transferable. Only way to sell your tickets is to sell them back to the box office.

The band released the above statement to the fans after the 1995 Deer Creek gate Crash. There is a lot to be said about this statement. I think it applies to this situation. And it is encouraging to see people working to find ways to fix this absolutely broken, inequitable system we saw this weekend. Roger Waters did the Lottery system couple years back. If you got lucky to win the lottery, you got tickets in your name that you could only pick up day of show. That seems like one way to fix part of this behemoth of a problem.

Glad to see the posts are turning more positive again - remember "There is nothing like a Grateful Dead Concert". I have been posting throughout so just wanted to reiterate that a lot of Heads did get tickets and I would love to hear from more of you to keep the excitement of the shows going. My email number was in the 350 range, haven't seen many more posts past about 370 - if your number was larger (and/or the coveted #420 lol) please let us know so folks can try to get a reading on where emails stopped or if they are still continuing. From Ticketmaster I was able to obtain GA tickets for Friday so not everything they sold there was obstructed view nor did they all go to scalpers. btw - I only had one computer going with Chrome and IE, satellite connection which has inherent lag and max of 10MB and had to reload both browsers at 10AM before I could start. IE crunched Chrome, gave me a realistic countdown of 7 minutes and I grabbed the tickets - all with a typically unstable connection! Personally I can't wait. My son (31) will join me on Friday and daughter (27) on Sunday as my wife is unable to attend shows anymore due to health reasons. Who's coming with you? Looking forward to seeing all of you here in Chicago! Be Kind

I saw Furthur at Bill Graham Auditorium. The speakers facing the side of the stage with obstructed view were mixed just as if I was on the floor front and center. Great mix and sound. I suspect the sound from the sides and behind the stage at Soldier Field will also have a good mix. They already stated there will be side and behind video, "so it is only logical to include speakers," said Spock. I am glad so many people with side and behind stage seats are just Grateful to be inside. I will see you there. Not sure where my seats will be (#389 received 2-26 9:33 pm) as I did not pay to track the status of my money orders.

Of course you have "good vibes" - you scored on all counts man. Who wouldn't be happy? I speak for the 99.99% of the folks that have been screwed by a broken ticketing paradigm and secondary market that somehow had seats before anyone else did. And no, I'm not tapping into my 401-K to see the boys again. This whole event has soured many, and with absolute and just reason. I'm truly happy for you and your good vibes. Regrettably, you are the less than 1% that get to feel that.

Hey everyone, I'm one of the unfortunate ones who could not get tix: No email/no rejection pinky from MO (was really bummed to see posted here last night that everyone who won MO tix was already notified via email). My story..I took off of work Friday morn to try for CID, and failed. Saturday, TM- I had 6 computers going, and still failed. (sigh) I certainly tried my best! So, by Sunday I was literally in tears, knowing my last chance at tix (at decent pricing) came and went... So now, I sit here , fighting the impulse to buy from stubhub or vivid or any other outrageously over priced ticket reseller. (sigh) What else choice do I have? I'm a hardcore fan and want to go! So, now I'm watching and waiting for the prices to drop. Anyone have any thoughts about a good reseller that I won't get ripped off? Oh, and of course if any of you have tix for sale, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! email me: judianne89@gmail.com... As far Re:thoughts, I agree with your points... But hey...you still are going---behind the stage or not---you'll be there and you managed to get tix from TM! I think its great you got tix from TM and that you're going! Well, I wish all of you a great- GREAT time!! And congrats to all who got tix (the normal way)!

There are NO ticket resellers that won't rip you off. Except maybe a real dead fan that wants to help you out that happens to have extras (and that is a long shot, not many of them even exist, beginning to think they don't exist at all anymore) I like this 1 website that said "discounted grateful dead tickets". Yeah, their discount was to "reduce" the price from $1900 to $1500 for 1 nose bleed obstructed ticket. Don't do it Judi, for the love of God don't do it...

Take this one with a grain of salt, but at least one news outlet is claiming that the concert will be "in the round" with 360 degree views: "The event is special for other reasons as well. The band will perform in a 360 degree formation located at the center of the area, allowing for both maximum capacity and maximum exposer of the band to the audience and creating an immersive experience for everyone." http://www.inquisitr.com/1888461/grateful-dead-reunion-sold-out-deasper… I'm not getting my hopes up - the seating chart clearly shows something different and I cannot imagine that additional money for "no view" seats would have been left on the table if, in fact, these are "view" seats. Not to mention how this would mess with the general admission/floor seating. But, at least, the possibility is out there and it does make a lot of sense. As an aside, I saw Ratdog at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix last year. That show was also supposed to be "in the round" (revolving stage no less), but was switched to end stage seating at the last minute much to the chagrin of people that purchased impacted seats.

I did all the steps and artwork for MO, but got the money orders sent back. I got up early and got all ready to hit "refresh" as soon as the clock hit 8 am (pst) for ticketmaster. I did that and... nothing. I kept trying (and all these days leading up, I did the intention-setting and visioning without the grasping and minimum anxiety - though there was a touch of that in the hoping). I am in the same boat as our brother in the UK - I have trying and hoping to get to a show for 21 years. I snuck into my stepdads records when I was 18, and have been listening to those, bootlegs, and attending cover band shows or seeing Phil and Friends ever since. I have had a couple dreams where I've seen the Dead - with Jerry, and another, where I saw Jerry with a glowing mandala opening in his chest. A brother had a ticket for me to a fall '94 Boston show. Only it was raining and we were in the country and he had a bad feeling about riding his motorcycle. I tried all day to find a ride or a car to borrow - no luck. Then I tried at least to give the tickets away to some mobile heads. Then someone had a ticket for my spring '95 in Seattle. I should have done everything possible to get to that one but there were complications so I just said "next time." Well, after Jerry passed the only regret that's ever lasted was born in me. This January I was deep in silent mediation and I realized it was time to try - I checked the internet and lo and behold! It was precisely time, and said to be the last time!I figured it could be an illusion, but I might as well try! So on terrible ticketmaster 2 days ago - finally a ticket was offered to me - but it was $215!! More than the single, three day pass I had asked GDTS for! I felt absolutely conflicted about paying that much for just one night, after all I had been through to get to that point. If I could have bought it and then tried again, I would have, but I am just a working class head. I had no brothers or sisters around to advise... the seconds were ticking down 4:32, 4:31, more tickets were being snatched up. What to do? I kept the faith, gambled and tried again... I got a three day pass with no view for less than the one night with a view. The $215 was section 214. I assume a perfect - though far away view. My actual tickets are in 355, absolutely no view. But I will be in the show. I will be in the show. I will be IN THE SHOW!! I am beyond grateful. I simply cannot wait... though I am enjoying the anticipation and gratitude. I am sharing this with you all to one) try to perpetuate some of the good vibes that some of you are masters at sharing - even through this forum world. Also, there have been a lot of questions about what was available on ticketmaster. Sorry for the long email. I can't wait to meet some of you. Also, anyone know how to change their username? I would like to do that. Something less pretentious and presumptuous :) Peace brothers and sisters ***

I'm really hoping they stream this like Phish and other bands do and do very well. After having gone to 30+ shows I feel like I was lucky to have seen them in their prime and am very thankful for the great memories (Alpine '89 - wow!). I tried but I couldn't get tickets. With that said, I'm not even sure I would want to go and I live in Chicago, no offense. The idea of standing in line for the bathroom, drinks, etc. with 70K of all of you in the crappy (sorry) Soldier field venue, no thanks. Move it to Alpine or Mt. View, and maybe I'd reconsider. I'll be on the deck in the hammock waiting for the BBQ to finish hopefully listening/watching the stream if you need me. Thank you guys for the memories, it was wonderful! Bertha opener!

An email from Elvis@gdtstoo has been circulating that indicated that if you did not receive an email saying you won the lottery, you are not getting tickets and that GDTSTOO is working to get MOs back asap. There could be a small chance that you either forgot your email or they typed it in wrong, but otherwise, no email, no tix.

Would anyone be willing to trade 2 tickets for the July 3rd show for 2 nights (paid) at either the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park or the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel? I'm hoping for my "miracle" as this final show would end up around the 120th or so show for me...first time seeing the Dead was Englishtown NJ in 1977. Don't know what else to do...hate the thought of not being able to make this last one. And even if the prices for some tickets come down a bit, and not sure they will, I still won't buy from the secondary market. The way this has all gone down is shameful. Would like to "do business" with a fellow Head. Please consider reaching out to me via PM. Thanks.

I did hear about Elvis' Email circulating -- but don't you think we should at least have another announcement? Can't believe we haven't heard anything since last week. So many people in limbo and still keeping a glimmer of hope alive. What are they doing out there??

after scrolling through all the entitled and hateful comments on here i realized that no better result could have been had than to have those 'cough cough...heads' not get tix.

Not poo-pooing the job that Elvis and the crew did; au contraire mon frere, as a Canuck applying for tix, I found Elvis very helpful and responded to my emails within 24 hours - every time I sent one. In fact, most of the Canadian updates that were posted to GDTS prior to Jan 20 were exactly my questions, so not only was he answering my questions directly, they were on the website within 24 of asking. That said, there are however two things I would have changed for GDTS: 1) make it like TXR and all tix are will-call with id needed to claim; floor scalpers=zero this way. The people who paid for their trips with 2 tix per show=zero. 2) limit tix to 2 per order; Admittedly I tried for 4 since I was trying to get myself, wife and close couple friends and minimize the # or MO they had to go through (I also only asked for 2 nights so as to share tix for others - but I am apparently naive that way...) Full disclosure: I got totally shut out from tix AND have my pinky to confirm I am loser. Not saying I am entitled to be there, really wanted to be there and would have contributed to the "old vibe" as I live and breath what the dead mean to all of us and what the spirit of the band is supposed to be (peace, love and sharing). I am slowly seeing my dream of seeing the boys one last time fading fast, but as Elvis said to me yesterday "Never give up, never surrender" I am still pondering that one...

Your comment has elements of hatefulness toward fellow fans so that is really the pot calling the kettle black. There are some ridiculous comments here but they mostly come from one person going off with multiple accounts. It's entirely legitimate to criticize the way this ticket process went down and if you are willing to look, several people have indicated how it could have been handled much better. It's not an issue of entitlement, it's an issue of discussing how this was handled by the band when they decided to perform some shows. "Entitlement" is a word that gets grossly and inappropriately misused in today's discussions. I'm pissed at the band members for allowing this to happen, but like I have said from the get-go, I hope anyone who got tickets enjoys the shows.

Reminder: To those of you who see that their MO's were cashed but no email congrats conformation. If you forgot to put an email address on the 3x5 card, they have no way to notify you. You will most likely get some mail in June with tics inside, assuming your SASE is inside. I did not get MO tics or Ticketmaster tics. Still a Deadhead forever!! Love me some Grateful Dead!!

No bad mail in the mailbox today. Probably a long shot at this point but I'll continue to hold on to hope until that nasty SASE comes back to my casa. Will stay grateful, wait and chill until tomorrow...

To all of you saying don't feed the scalpers. Sorry to inform you that Ebay has a list of "SOLD" listings on left side of page where the tickets for sale are being offered. People are paying astronomical prices. I can't believe it but finding a reasonably priced ticket will truly take a miracle. Good luck to all of us needing just one or two for a night.
