Dead.Net Vines - What It Is & How It Works

(We're changing some things for 2009)

BACKGROUND: The concept of a "vine" is music sharing through conventional means (e.g. mailing cd's or dvd's) with the sign-up list being on-line. The basic idea is that someone starts (seeds) a vine, made up of one or multiple shows, and sends it via mail to the first person who signs up. That person makes a copy for themselves and sends the ORIGINAL media on to the next person on the list. As more people sign up, it continues to grow and grow - hence the name "vine".

...waiting for the new topics to show up ;^). Good job for sure erickat. I appreciate having things clearly spelled out, esp. the items that can result in a viner getting skipped. "No response in 3 - 4 days" is helpful, and setting a deadline was something that had prevented me from getting started on anything like this (well, that and the fact that I'm still fairly new here and didn't want to be pushy). The item regarding checking in periodically is good, too - several of the currently missing vines are involved there, viners mailing out vines to others who are known to be missing, or being at the end and not checking back for new signups. I don't think these guidelines will have a negative effect on the playground here, although as one viner stated a couple of months ago: "I've read some pretty restrictive rules on other sites & even though we have some hiccups here now & again, it's a much more free & open environment" I think the environment here is safe ;^) Cheers! There was a note on the old "new vines" topic about labeling the packages - but I would rather have documentation about what vine it is & set lists etc.. on the INSIDE of the package - to help prevent theft (not an indictment of our US postal workers - but decorating the outside can lead to temptation). As for keeping track of the vines, I use an excel spreadsheet to track vines. Sample Vine Tracking Spredsheet In this sample, I have deleted everyone's name & address - which i collect through the vining process (for vining purposes only - so i don't have to constantly ask for addresses). It consists of 4 tabsTab 1 - expected vines (sort by expected date & update frequently) Tab 2 - completed vines (copy from Tab1 to here as they get done - for historical purposes) Tab 3 - names & addresses Tab 4 - a copy of the vinedex (for local reference) Tab 5 - vines I have started (again - for historical purposes) with all the time we put into keeping the music flowing, it only makes sense to do it in an organized way & keep track of things. Note that Tabs 1 & 2 have url links back to this site, for easy status checking. It's really not much effort at all - as you're sitting there burning the discs, you just update the spreadsheet.

Nice way to start off the new topic. Thanks. Thanks to Trevor, also, although my taste runs to pre 1981-82 stuff. OK, call me a snob, I can take it. "Let there be songs to fill the air."

by Cellar Door Productions - broadcast over WHFS on 3/28/79Michael Franks & Friends - jaz / fusion stuff My sister recorded this off the radio & I've had it for going on 30 years now - some very interesting stuff. Not completely sure of the names of all the songs - a single Audio CD, so it's just an itty bitty vine - but a change of pace from the Dead we've been doing for so long.

Started by Pomo1 (sort of). These are four JGB shows taken from Lopezz's Little Bit of Everything Vine and converted to 7 Audio CDs. There are some quality issues, a song or two missing and some gaps. But, it is "Cats Down Under the Stars Jerry" and well worth having. Please do not sign up until Mary gives this its own topic. I was stumbling around and found thishttp://www.loathemegacorp.com/deadpieshop/ which has some inserts for shows that are being vined. I had gotten into a habit of making them lately, but these are ready-made and will burn through your printer ink, BUT if you are interested there is a source to utilize. This tape circulates labled "LOM Mystery Tape". These songs are from the winteror spring of '74, before Martin Fierro became a fulltime member. Supposedly found in a vault unlabled by Dick Latvala. It is doubtful that all these songs are from the same show. One thing is certain, these are crystal clear recordings of some great Legion of Mary songs! This tape also circulates under the name " Dicks Gift". Disc 1 Unknown Venue 1. Finders Keepers (10:12) 2. Think (9:12) 3. Lala (11:34) 4. I Second That Emotion (14:31) 5. Hi folks, I have been working on this one for a while and I finally have some great sources to get this vine planted. 1985, as my brother in Vineland Richard put it " it seems to me that every night the band came out swinging for the bleachers." I also believe there were no strikeouts between 6-14-85 and 7-2-85. I am partial to this period, year, and even tour because it was when I got on the bus. I would like to propose an Early Summer 85' Vine that will be the complete run from 6-14 to 7-2, 1985. As I said, I have sourced most of these shows. They will be low generation high quality audiences for most all the shows I have recorded by the same person. I will reveal sources when I can put together a few final pieces. I have or will have very soon have: 6-14-85 Greek 6-15-85 Greek 6-16-85 Greek 6-25-85 Blossom 6-27-85 Spac 6-28-85 Hersey 6-30-85 Merriweather (Already Vined) 7-1-85 Merriweather ( Already Vined) 7-2-85 Pittsburgh Civic I need some help to make it complete: 6-21-85 Alpine 6-22-85 Alpine 6-24-85 Riverbend I would love to send this out as a complete run if possible. I will do this in 3 parts as I will get these decoded from flac into audio for a user friendly vine. Thanks-geoff

I want this vine. I really like the majority of '85 shows I have heard. The '85 vines here (Fox and Merriweather) are super hot shows. That said, '85 was also the "Kermit the Frog" year for Jerry. I have a cassette taped version of The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA (4/8/85), and Jerry sounds really bad vocally--like Kermit the Frog. I will be on the lookout for this vine.

I realize this may get shot down. If it does,no worries. Mydland recorded and mastered a solo album, but it was never released. You will in fact have this vine in about a week. Love that East Coast Spring Tour as well! I agree with Kermit. Jerry was not in great health in 85. I remember seeing him close up on stage for the first time in on the fall tour and I was like" how can that man play and sing because he looks as though he's about to keel over! He usually managed to pull it off....for some reason, I don't think it was just all the Ben and Jerry's.......His voice might have been rough, but he slayed nightly with "The Tiger". His guitar was unreal.....that was probably due to the Ben and Jerry's ;0} -----If you wanna leave your troubles behind, you don't have to ask If you wanna go away and lose your mind, you don't have to ask If it's peace that you're looking for You got the key to every door, you already know---------

Lopezz, I'm a Brent fan to the core but I need to do a little poking around to see what the status of this album is. Let me look into this a bit. What I'd personally love to see at some point is the SEVA benefit shortly before Brent's death at which he did what I think is the only performance of "Love Doesn't Have to Be Pretty." From a Brent standpoint it was a darn harrowing show, but unforgettable also. As for the rest, I'll have 'em up shortly.

This would be a shn/flac only vine on DVDs: John Mayall's Blues Breakers 2-9-1966 London, England BBC Studios SBD Blind Faith 7-12-1969 New York, NY MSG AUD Blind Faith 8-26-1969 Los Angeles CA Unknown venue FM/SBD Derek & The Dominoes10-16-1970 Philadelphia, PA AUD Clapton 1-13-1973 London, England Rainbow Theatre SBD Clapton 7-7-1974 Jersey City, NJ Roosevelt Stadium SBD Clapton 4-20-1975 Sydney, Australia Hordern Pavilion SBD Clapton 11-12-1976San Antonio, TX Convention Center SBD Clapton 11-6-1977 Leiden, Netherlands Groenoordhall Clapton 3-24-1978 Charlotte, NC Memorial Coliseum SBD Clapton 11-26-1979Kyoto, Japan Kyoto Kaikan Daiichi Hall AUD Clapton 7-10-1983 Milwaukee, WI Milwaukee Festival SBD Clapton 10-11-1985Fukuoka, Japan SBD Clapton 7-4-1986 Roskilde, Denmark Roskilde Festival SBD Clapton 7-9-1986 Montreux Jazz Festival VIDEO Clapton 4-14-1987 Los Angeles CA The Forum SBD Clapton 1-25-1988 London, England Royal Albert Hall Clapton 2-9-1990 Royal Albert Hall VIDEO Clapton 11-7-1994 San Francisco, CA Fillmore West SBD Clapton 7-11-1997 Den Haag, Netherlands Statenhal SBD Clapton 4-9-1998 Chicago, IL United Center SBD Clapton 9-11-1998 Edmonton, Canada Edmonton Coliseum SBD Clapton 5-21-2001 Atlanta, GA Philip Arena SBD Clapton 11-17-2003Hiroshima, Japan Green Arena AUD Clapton 5-16-2006 London, England Royal Albert Hall Clapton Studio Outtakes SBD Clapton + Friends SRV Tribute 5-12-1995 Austin, TX Music Hall Cream 10-4-1968 Oakland, CA Alameda County Coliseum Arena SBD Cream Remasters Part 1 Cream Remasters Part 2 Sorry for the messy formatting on the list...Not sure how many DVDs this would be, probably 7 or 8. Many of these claim to be SBD but they may just be very high quality AUD. BUt, the majority are very very listenable. There are a few that the source is flat out unknown. Only band I don't have represented here that I wish I did is the Yardbirds. Not sure anyone has any Casey Jones and the Engineer's or The Roosters material either. if this topic would stay sorted to the top of the vineyard so we don't have to go hunting for it all the time. But... that's not how it works. I'm just posting this to move it back up to the top temporarilly. been kind of preoccupied lately - with life & worry - not that it does any good. Will try to think up a good (little) vine to put out soon.

Hi!Here is a list of vines that are at the end of their signup lists, I think. Probably a few errors, and probably a few unresponsive viners, but if you're horny to burn shows here are some needy ones. Vine name is followed by the last known viner. PM me with error reports. To find the vines' signup lists fairly easily copy'n'paste the vine name into the "Search" box and click "go", the vine's topic should show up on the first page of hits. Sign up for the vine, PM that last viner and you're off! re the Brent vine, I'm making inquiries but it ain't looking good. Suffice it to say that a)those tapes seem to come with a good deal of baggage and b)they may yet see the light of day in formal fashion. Hey, I'd buy it... I don't have an absolute definitive answer yet but that's how the wind's blowing at the moment...

I trade in bulk and pick up odd ball things(mostly not labeled) like this sometimes. A formal release would be a definite upgrade from what I have.

Ok here is the 2nd part to the Early 69’ Vine. Im trying to keep them fairly small to speed up the vine process because they will include only audio cd’s. Sorry that I cant include a dvd as I still don’t have a dvd burner, but will hopefully be getting one sometime after the Chicago Dead show in May. Anyway I think this stuff is worth the extra time it takes to copy the music cd’s. Part 2 will be 8 audio disc’s.
