this song, kid.....to this day stops me in my tracks....No matter what I'm doing.... God bless Dusty Springfield.......and God bless the Grateful Dead...... Billy-Ray was a preacher's son And when his daddy would visit he'd come along When they gathered round and started talkin' That's when Billy would take me walkin' A-through the backyard we'd go walkin' Then he'd look into my eyes Lord knows to my surprise The only one who could ever reach me Was the son of a preacher man The only boy who could ever teach me Was the son of a preacher man Yes he was, he was Ooh, yes he was Being good isn't always easy No matter how hard I try When he started sweet-talkin' to me He'd come and tell me everything is all right He'd kiss and tell me everything is all right Can I get away again tonight? The only one who could ever reach me Was the son of a preacher man The only boy who could ever teach me Was the son of a preacher man Yes he was, he was (Ooh...) Lord knows he was Yes he was How well I remember The look that was in his eyes Stealin' kisses from me on the sly Takin' time to make time Tellin' me that he's all mine Learnin' from each other's knowing Lookin' to see how much we've grown And the only one who could ever reach me Was the son of a preacher man The only boy who could ever teach me Was the son of a preacher man Yes he was, he was Ooh, yes he was The only one who could ever reach me He was the sweet-talking son of a preacher man The only boy who could ever teach me I kissed the son of a preacher man The only one who could ever move me The sweet-lovin' son of a preacher man The only one who could ever groove me Ahh, ooh, ahh....

@you said you were an actress?
How're you going to make your way in the worldWhen you weren't cut out for working When your fingers are slender and frail How're you going to get around In this sleazy bedroom town If you don't put yourself up for sale Where will you go with your scarves and your miracles Who's gonna know who you are Drugs and wine and flattering light You must try it again till you get it right Maybe you'll end up with someone different every night All these people with no home to go home to They'd all like to spend the night with you Maybe I would, too But tell me How're you going to make your way in the world, woman When you weren't cut out for working And you just can't concentrate And you always show up late You said you were an actress Yes, I believe you are I thought you'd be a star So I drank up all the money, Yes, I drank up all the money, With these phonies in this Hollywood bar, These friends of mine in this Hollywood bar Loneliness and frustration We both came down with an acute case And when the lights came up at two I caught a glimpse of you And your face looked like something Death brought with him in his suitcase Your pretty face It looked so wasted Another pretty face Devastated The French Inhaler He stamped and mailed her "So long, Norman" She said, "So long, Norman"

I love this guy... I ran down the road Pants down to my knees Screaming, "Please come help me That Canadian shaman gave a little too much to me!" And I'm writing a novel 'Cause it's never been done before First house that I saw I wrote, "House" up on the door And told the people who lived there they had to get out "'Cause my reality is realer than yours." And there's no time in the present And there's a black dog on the bed I went to the backyard To burn my only clothes And the dog ran out and said "You can't turn nothing into nothingness with me no more." Well I'm no doctor But that monkey might be right And if he is I'll be walking him my whole life I rode to Malibu On a dune buggy with Neil He said, "You're gonna have to drown me down on the beach If you ever want to write 'the real'." And I said "I'm sorry. Young man what is your name again?" Now everywhere I go In West Hollywood It's filled with people pretending they don't see the actress And the actress wishing that they could We could do ayahuasca Baby, if I wasn't holding all these drinks Something 'bout the way Violet whips her hair That makes me empty my pockets on the corner to corner Bumming twenties as if I was the mayor I don't need any new friends, Mama But I could really use something to do So if you're up for it sometimes I swear you wouldn't have to be my muse Heideggerand Sartre Drinking poppy tea I could've sworn last night I passed out in my van And now these guys are pouring one for me I'll never leave the canyon 'Cause I'm surrounded on all sides By people writing novels And living on amusement rides

[I: If She Runs] If she runs, let her run, run, run Just hope that she comes back If she breaks let her break, break, break Let apologies attract And is she's free let her be, let her be She's not in such bad company The big man's still got her name written on the wall If she cries let her cry, cry, cry 'Till there isn't anymore If she cracks, let her crack, crack, crack If that's what che's looking for And if she waits, let her wait, wait, wait You'll have to leave this one to fate It can't ever be too late, when she comes to call It's Hard -- Living with such uncertainty It's Hard -- climbing the statue of liberty It's Hard -- calming the beatle inside of me It's Hard -- missing my max and melody [II: Mr. Wonderful] Her lips were ruby red She had a pretty head Not even once did she miss Sunday school Remember what mama said, "Stick to the rules" This boy was something else Someone she knew so well Echoes of snakes in paradise Saw the strangest fire burning in his eyes. His name was wonderful And it's wonderful, just to be near him His name was majesty And his majesty's requesting your presence He took her for a ride Into the starless night Talked about far away place he's been Could take her down to the city of sin "Grab it while you are young trust me there's nothing wrong But she feard what was 'round the bend" Said "thank you, but no thank's, 'cause I've got a friend" His name was wonderful And it's wonderful, just to be near him His name was majesty And his majesty's requesting your presence [III: Lost and Found Pt. 1] Don't you think if you could be lost Don't you think you can be found Don't you think if you were the world, you'd turn it around Don't you start look behind Don't better stand up 'cause this is your time Don't you think that you'd better start changing your mind [IV: Temple of The Gods] In the Temple of the Gods We can get it on In the Temple of the Gods We will make our home Far from these Boulevards We will plunge headlong In the Temple of the Gods We will sing this song Give all the reasons that you know Slide down where the time moves nice and slow Ease back and relax No figures and no fax Awakening the stranger in your soul In the Temple of the Gods We can get it on In the Temple of the Gods We will make our home Far from these Boulevards We will plunge headlong In the Temple of the Gods We will sing this song [V: Motherless Children/If She Runs (Reprise)] Left the countryside for the city She resides now on the second floor No more gardening in the backyard Busy keepin' the wolves from the door Motherless children, ain't going nowhere Running in circles, time after time Careless, confused, frozen, faithless Dreaming this dream to ease our minds And if she runs Let her run Come on 'cause now the time has come The big man's got the mother and the son Written on the wall Don't want to hear it now..... This tune needs to be heard in its entirety..... Welcome back Katniss.....

See... I knew there had to be someone else lurking on da dus. But wait...I got U babe vs. wake up little Susie and being presumptuous...screw it. Dont read too much into it. We're just having fun. Walking through forests of palm tree apartments --- scoff at the monkeys who live in their dark tents down by the waterhole --- drunk every Friday --- eating their nuts --- saving their raisins for Sunday. Lions and tigers who wait in the shadows --- they're fast but they're lazy, and sleep in green meadows. Let's bungle in the jungle --- well, that's all right by me. I'm a tiger when I want love, but I'm a snake if we disagree. Just say a word and the boys will be right there: with claws at your back to send a chill through the night air. Is it so frightening to have me at your shoulder? Thunder and lightning couldn't be bolder. I'll write on your tombstone, ``I thank you for dinner.'' This game that we animals play is a winner. Let's bungle in the jungle --- well, that's all right by me. I'm a tiger when I want love, but I'm a snake if we disagree. The rivers are full of crocodile nasties and He who made kittens put snakes in the grass. He's a lover of life but a player of pawns --- yes, the King on His sunset lies waiting for dawn to light up His Jungle as play is resumed. The monkeys seem willing to strike up the tune.

I am convinced 1/2 the staff are former, current, and/or closet deadheads or at least have affinity for the thoughts and feelings. WSJ weekend edition has probably had more articles on the d e ad in the last 20 yrs than rolling stone. although I stopped reading RS long ago. I discovered WSP many years ago via an article on their marketing practices being so close to the Dead's...incessant touring, free taping, loose controls on copyrighted images, etc. Etc. Or that may be anti marketing...anyway I have found WSJ to be sympatico. Ahhh the weekend. ... Golf, craft beer fest in Ft Worth On Saturday. Then on Sunday celebrate the wonderul mom of my 2 great kids.don't forget mothers day because Momma tried!

I am old!!!Yet agaiin it is a weekend night, and I am the only here!!!! Dark Star is playing 45 minutes away,.. right now,...and I am not there, because I am OLD!!!! I have to work tomorrow again,.....Responsibility is a Heeaavy Responsibility!!!!,....I Guess! Worse of all is the thought that "The Boys"are probably over here on the East Coast, or some of them might be,... anyway the possibilites of a "guest Appoearance" at Penn's Peak tonight, make me wish I had gone! I think I will definitely make an effort to get there tomorrow, fortunately it's their first two night run at the venue.

Don't make mine FARE thee WELL DONE.Had a little mother and son time today, he let me show him some grateful dead which is what I said I wanted to do With him "For mothers day" Showed him 20 minutes of the tie dyed documemtary and the opening animation of the grateful dead movie. my jaw dropped when he called it trippy (he's 12)! He asked lots of good questions like what was the wall of sound, where did the band get its name, and what were the acid Tests. Best Mother's Day- ever.

Stranger stopping strangers. Just to shake their hand. It will happen, during the coruse of our time in Chicago, that Daydreamers will run into each other (even if it is not on a spreadsheet). They will greet each other, but not know the other’s name. After declaring “I am [SD name here], and I miss Jerry”, there will be a warm embrace. Ah, such a touching, timeless scene. Passersby will take note and will remember seeing that embrace by strangers, who yet seemed to know each other somehow. Timeless.
