Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have a batch of Grateful Dead music from 1982, 1985 and 1988.
Our first selection this week is the pre-Drums second set sequence from the famous show on 4/6/82 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, featuring Shakedown>Lost Sailor>Saint Of Circumstance>Terrapin Station. This entire show was released as part of the Road Trips series a few years ago.
Three years and two days later at the same venue, on 4/8/85, we have the really good, and really interesting first featuring In The Midnight Hour > Walking The Dog > Big Boss Man ; Me And My Uncle > Cumberland Blues ; Down In The Bottom > I Ain't Superstitious ; Althea ; Tons Of Steel > Supplication > Might As Well. There is plenty to like about this first set, both the performance quality and the unique song list.
Lastly this week, from the final night of a three night run in Hartford, CT, on 4/5/88, we have the start of the second set, with a couple of interesting things worth noting, specifically Brent's debut version of the classic Louie Louis, and a Smokestack Lightning that starts cold, and doesn't emerge from a bluesy Truckin' or He's Gone jam. From Hartford, we have Iko Iko ; Louie Louie > Samson and Delilah ; Ship of Fools > Smokestack Lightning.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
