    Janis and Ron
It was a fantastic show. I remember The Dead opening with a "studio" version of "Lovelight" and Janis doing,I think it was "Bottle of Wine".. she went off stage, got loose and when she came back out after a break in the Dead's set, she and Pigpen did the nastiest "Lovelight" my 18 yr old brain could wrap itself around....

    Janis & Pigpin
Janis sang on "Turn On Your Lovelight" with Pigpin and the boys (about 15 mins. long) I remember Janis around that night drinking/smokin'/party'n and was called up on stage to sing and she decided on lovelight. Sweet Candyman by Jerry.too. NRPS were get'ner done and eveyone wore cowboy clothes. things were always loose with the band and they were always in a tight groove....so were the chicks that hung out around the band/shows them dayz, many a lovelight night after a Dead show.

Doctor R.O'C.: I remember standing outside, in line on Sir Francis Drake, waiting to get in. Janis came out of the club/restaurant next door, accompanied by 2 huge dudes(body guards?). People in line were commenting: "hey! look! there's a chick dressed up like Janis Joplin." Little did we know that IT WAS JANIS. true to her rep. she was carrying an open bottle of southern comfort. she sang the most sex-crazed duet with pigpen, of turn on your love light, suggesting that her & the pen were more than just mere friends. Gawd I wish I could relive those days!

Janis & Pig also sang 2 Haggard drinking songs with the Riders that night: The Bottle Let Me Down & Swinging Doors. I've been looking for a recording of the Riders set for years. Even a query to Dave Nelson via David Gans failed to turn up anything. Those two and that band shoulda made a record.
