    In closing....
Spent Sunday show with Jaleel, super cool cat and he was extremely appreciative of my offer for the extra ticket. When the last show was over we sat for a bit, had to soak it up as much as possible. Did not want to leave. So much to absorb and take in. I ran into a few SD peeps here and there at the shows. Fitting I would see Tami and Brad 1 last time Sunday night downstairs. What a trip man! You 2 are the coolest! What a musical magical journey I went on and it wouldn't even have been possible (or nearly half as enjoyable) without this fine group they call the Sunshine Daydreamers! I am very humbled and honored to have been elected mayor. I hereby retire as mayor but plan to be an active member of the group 'til the end of time (or my life) whichever comes first. P.S. Even on the plane flight home I would sit next to a young couple who were totally cool deadheads and we had a nice flight back together joking and remembering the shows.

...the rest of the band? Well, they kicked my ass those old farts! They can still put on a great show (or 5). Bobby sounded fantastic; Phil thrilled us with his bass work; and the Rhythm Devils were on the top of their game (that in itself worth the price of admission). Bruce was great, wish he would have sung more (like on Terrapin) but what can you do? Fireworks Sat. and Sun nights, the break music and images were outstanding. The light show was unlike anything I have ever seen for dead show and was totally top-notch. Shapiro put on an amazing set of shows and really did it up big. Like him or not, forgive him or not (for the ticket debacles), he put on a major spectacle and did it right in the end.

    The music (my take)
I think the shows were awesome. They really were Grateful Dead shows! The stage and the lighting, the screens and the images that were displayed. I mean, how could you not be moved by all of it? I was incredibly moved, Trey did a great job at attempting the impossible. He can't be Jerry and we all know that. He had some amazing moments and some not-so-amazing moments. He gelled with the band though, and it was a wonderful run of shows. I don't know how he pulled off learning all those songs. What a true performer and consummate professional. Trey embraced his role and really shined as lead guitarist for the dead this time around. I felt this was the best we have heard from this band in any iteration since Jerry left us. And there were some moments of brilliance where he was channeling Jerry and it was (again) pure magic. Those moments will last a lifetime and I will remember these shows always and appreciate the wonderful gift the band gave us by doing these shows....

...my bro comes up to meet me on Sunday which was unbearably cool. He lives in St Louis and I don't get to see him very often. The magic continues. I overslept and barely made it to the train to make it to the River Architecture cruise. My bro was supposed to meet me at hotel but he was late and got lost. He made it down to the boat dock by 11, though, and watched me leave in the boat. I had to run from the train to a cab then ran to the boat. I don't know how I made it (credit the magical guardian angel). Me and my bro spent the mid-day together and had an early dinner laughing and reminiscing to the point of happy tears. Truly special time we had and what a surprise. I didn't think he was coming but was super happy to see him. Then he drops me off downtown for Sunday's show and what a finale it was...

...Tired from the museum I trucked on and found something funky on the way to Shakedown street. So I ate it, and it was good. More Magic: I go up and visit Tony up in the nosebleeds as he asked me to come up and say Hi. That was so cool to meet up with Tony at his seat both Fri. and Sat. nights! When I arrived back in my sec. 324, a guy asked me to trade for a seat down in sec. 125. No brainer! Right place right time. My only complaint from that night was it was real smoky down there and I had some issues breathing. Lots of cigarretee smoking, and other stuff. Took my sandals off and wandered around the stadium looking for air. None of the concession stands had any. HMMMM? I did find that very odd (at the time). Had great people around me to help me get through the night alone as I had no seatmates other than the other 70,000. My neighbors were instrumental and of monumental help to me that night...

...I was bit hungover as I had a REAL GOOD time at Friday's show. Super energetic rock and roll show that was. Hung out with Chris and Jeff (Mortatone), had a fantastic time! Feeling not so special I made it to the picnic about 20-30 minutes late. What a great feeling it was to go around and meet the group. What a great group of people we are! It truly was an amazing time and what a highlight for me personally. I never did anything quite like this before, meet people I have chatted with on the internet. It felt like home and I had known these people all my adult life. It really was a special moment. The field museum with the Jazz and Colors was off the hook (right after picnic). One trio had a sax that sounded like Stan Getz I shit you not (a personal jazz favorite of mine)! I told him that and he was very humbled by my compliment. can't stop smiling. Huge museum, amazing! GD50 exhibit mindblowing also with the tiger guitar (tears) and the envelopes and memorabilia! Sensory overload...

The magic that was my trip...
(I am not saying good-bye more of a "'til next time" from me.) From the moment I sat down at the airport bar in Sacramento, waiting to come to Chicago, it had already begun. A very nice fellow who saw my dead shirt came up and sat next to me and we chatted, talked about SC and the upcoming shows. The magic was just beginning for Chicago for me (SD meet, magical show and rainbow had really started the whole thing June 27). I guess the magic was just on hold for a few days. But boy did it really kick in. Got in to CHI on time from my non-stop flight, caught a shuttle, got to the hotel and checked in half hour early. Got to the gig in time no problem. Let me say if anyone had a doubt about the staff at Soldier Field, that idea was squashed immediately. They were honestly the nicest people I have ever patronized at any concert or stadium event. I was completely blown away by their professionalism and customer service. Had great customer service at my hotel as well. Everyone I met along the way was just awesome, I couldn't stop smiling, laughing and having a great time....

Got me through those early years - way to go out... Holly is right - I do not believe there is an exit on this thing, but maybe a window. We'll leave it open for all y'all who are saying "goodbye." "Never Say Good Bye" Twilight on the frozen lake A north wind about to break On the footprints in the snow Silence down below. You're beautiful beyond words You're beautiful to me You can make me cry Never say goodbye. Because my dreams are made Of iron and steel With a big boquet of roses hanging down From the heavens to the ground. The crashing waves roll over me As I stand upon the sand And wait for you to come Grab hold of my hand. Oh baby, baby, baby blue You'll change your last name too You turned your hair to brown Love to see it hanging down.

I am back and still recovering. Back to work yesterday. WHEW! I still can't believe what I experienced in Chicago (and Santa Clara). Sorry it took so long for my return. I have so much to say but it will have to come in increments. It was a daunting but exciting task to undertake alone, but of course I know oh so well that I was the furthest thing from being alone with all the dreamers and other kind folks I met along the way. Had the trip been for any other reason I might have really felt alone in Chicago. Meeting some of the dreamers in SC and then more (wish I could have met you all) in Chicago I felt a "strange" sense of belonging in this community (yes that's what we are a mini community inside the deadhead community) that is pure magic. I don't have any other explanation. The kindest friendliest people in the world are the deadheads and I saw this kindness and comfort throughout the entire trip. Thank you everyone in SD for the mayoral red carpet, and thank you to the entire deadhead community for the crazy kinship we all have and that was so evident in all these shows during my travels...

Now on K DED a dedication, our own Kristine has offered for Stanley to take the wheel whilst I kick back..... Ok Stanley, keep your emerald eyes on the road and paws upon the wheel.... Pupper...some driving music please..... Riding along in my automobile My baby beside me at the wheel I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile My curiosity running wild Crusin' and playin' the radio With no particular place to go Riding along in my automobile I's anxious to tell her the way I feel So I told her softly and sincere And she leaned and whispered in my ear Cuddlin' more and drivin' slow With no particular place to go No particular place to go So we parked way out on ko-ko-mo The night was young and the moon was gold So we both decided to take a stroll Can you image the way I felt I couldn't unfasten her safety belt Riding along in my calaboose Still trying to get her belt a-loose All the way home I held a grudge For the safety belt that wouldn't budge Crusin' and playing the radio With no mother f@cking place to go....... Night kids...... Sarge keep an eye on Stanley, he's new to this..... rrrrrrgrrrrrrr waaayyyyyy out!

Morning campers..... Happy hump day... to all coffee is on...we are all safe.... Stanley, glad we could count on you for a spell.... Sarge you can play the harmonica on this one.... It doesn't matter what I say So long as I sing with inflection That makes you feel I'll convey Some inner truth or vast reflection But I've said nothing so far And I can keep it up for as long as it takes And it don't matter who you are If I'm doing my job then it's your resolve that breaks Because the Hook brings you back I ain't tellin' you no lie The Hook brings you back On that you can rely There is something amiss I am being insincere In fact I don't mean any of this Still my confession draws you near To confuse the issue I refer To familiar heroes from long ago No matter how much Peter loved her What made the Pan refuse to grow Was that the Hook brings you back I ain't tellin' you no lie The Hook brings you back On that you can rely Suck it in suck it in suck it in If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn Make a desperate move or else you'll win And then begin To see What you're doing to me this MTV is not for free It's so PC it's killing me So desperately I sing to thee Of love Sure but also of rage and hate and pain and fear of self And I can't keep these feelings on the shelf I've tried well no in fact I lied Could be financial suicide but I've got too much pride inside To hide or slide I'll do as I'll decide and let it ride until I've died And only then shall I abide this tide Of catchy little tunes Of hip three minute diddys I wanna bust all your balloons I wanna burn all your cities to the ground I've found I will not mess around Unless I play then hey I will go on all day. Hear what I say I have a prayer to pray That's really all this was And when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck I don't rely on luck because The Hook brings you back I ain't tellin' you no lie The Hook... On that you can rely And that's my home where dreams are born, And time is never planned. Just think of lovely things. And your heart will fly on wings, Forever in Never Never Land .....I hear they have tickets there..... ......Mr. Sulu, second star to the right, please....

Well, hold on this song has a little introduction to itIt ain't supposed to be sad though you might feel it that way It's a song about desperation Every now and then we do get desperate This is a song about L O V E and if you abuse it you're gonn' lose it And if you lose it you're gonn' 'buse and if you 'buse it You ain't gonn' be able to choose it 'Cuz you ain't gonn' have it further on down the line Things ain't gonn' be so fine, you're gonn' to be sitting there On your little machine tryin' to look and keep it clean And you're going to be playin' bingo all night all alone And that's why your sittin' there by the telephone And you know that she aint goin to call you So you put on the TV and you're watchin' Johnny Carson Segueing right into the 'Tomorrow Show' but that don't got the go So you turn it off and turn on the radio The radio don't' seem to get the click so you say "Hey man, I can't lickety split" You start to open up a little book And there's somethin' there you got to overlook And you say "Baby, you know there's somethin' on my mind" You say, "Baby there's somethin' on my mind I know that you're home and I know you ain't all alone" So you start walkin' over to her house You get over to her house, you walk over to her door You start poundin' on her door and you say "Open up the door bitch This is Wooba Gooba with the green teeth, let me in" Well, she opens up the door And then you just kinda walk up to her and say, "Baby" You look up way up at her green mascara And you say "Oh my darlin', you know her and me Was at the party as friends, do not believe what they say That's only gossip that they tellin' you down the wise crack of lies" You say darlin', "Take your big curls And just squeeze 'em down Ratumba What's the name of that chick with the long hair? Rapunzel Hey Rapunzel, hey Reputa, hey Reputa, Reputa the Buta Hey Reputa the Beautah flip me down your hair And let me climb up the ladder of your love Because this is the Wooba Gooba sayin' to ya "Love comes once and when it comes You better grab it fast 'cuz sometimes the love You grab ain't gonn' last and I believe I musta You know I think I musta, you know, baby, I think I musta You know I think I musta, I musta got lost lunch time....

now on K DED a song of overcoming oppression by the man.... Sarge get them natty dreads outta your eyes...oh that's Eddie? Ed get off Puppers head....hit G8..... Well, they tell me of a pie up in the sky Waiting for me when I die But between the day you're born and when you die They never seem to hear even your cry So as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Well, the oppressors are trying to keep me down Trying to drive me underground And they think that they have got the battle won I say forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done 'Cause, as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all And I keep on fighting for the things I want Though I know that when you're dead you can't But I'd rather be a free man in my grave Than living as a puppet or a slave So as sure as the sun will shine I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine And then the harder they come The harder they fall, one and all Ooh, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all Hey, the harder they come Harder they fall, one and all What I say now What I Say now lunch time at the mines....make mine red stripe....irie....pass dat dutchy....left hand side if you please.....

SDrs: I saw the email storm about the email storm. I am not on FB, snapchat, instagram, twitter or any of the social media platforms. I just don't have the time nor inclination...and sort of worried if I got on board with all that stuff, I'd overdo it and spend time I don't have on it. My kids tell me I'm a dinosaur by the way. ANYWAY...I move we use this forum and/or the website for mass communication....although someone will have to remind me where our website is. I thought I saved it but did not. If others want to use FB, by all means, do so. Just be aware that many of us won't see some of the stuff you may want us to see. I don't usually hop in the conversations here, but at least glance at what's going on on regular basis, so I'll catch anything important.

...that FB would not be accepted by some. Anti-social media is almost as popular as social media. Hate to break to y'all, but you are on a form of social media right now. I get it, though, I was and sort of still am anti-social media. I only got on FB a while back because I was trying to find an old friend. And I did not put any real personal info on there and my username is an alias. I mostly only use it to keep myself informed of info that I cannot get anywhere else. I don't tweet either and plan to never get a twitter acct. But to each his own, can't force people to use what they are uncomfortable with. I totally understand people's feelings regarding FB.

Point being, I have not accepted a single friend request and don't plan to. FB is not real interaction, although 3 times I actually did hook with old friends and meet up with them when in town. What happens after Chicago? I dunno, but I don't need FB to provide the answers. My nickel for what its worth. I must have deleted the email thread or not read it. If email went away, I'd be fine. Everyone let's quiet down around the FB. Consider it off the table* Mostly what is being suggested is what we are already doing - but better. (And dare I say - what I suggested and tried to implement in March for foresight of this very day.) 1) An email group that won't clog and overwhelm your inbox, or 2) a private forum for the same exact purpose we use email for, but with better manifestation, organization, and interface. My email fears have come true. Alas... my cat herding days are over, so I'll just be here in the corner muttering to myself as I try to find the links from James and Totem and the picture from Tami. At least, I've got the pizzas straight. LOVEloveLOVEloveLOVElove StellaI'mNotAlwaysRightButSometimesIReallyAmMoon. *for those of us social-media types, by all means, we ought to have a little satellite spot on fb for laughs and giggles. You can also follow me on Instagram and Twitter if you're into all that. xoxo.

Well the first days are the hardest days, don't you worry any more'Cause when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door Think this through with me, let me know your mind Wo-oh, what I want to know is, are you kind? It's a buck dancer's choice my friend, better take my advice You know all the rules by now, and the fire from the ice Will you come with me, won't you come with me? Wo-oh, what I want to know, will you come with me? God damn, well I declare, have you seen the like? Their walls are built of cannon balls Their motto is "don't" tread on me" Come hear Uncle John's Band, playing to the tide Come with me or go alone He's come to take his children home It's the same story the crow told me, it's the only one he knows Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait Wo-oh, what I want to know, where does the time go? I live in a silver mine and I call it beggar's tomb I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune Anybody's choice, I can hear your voice Wo-oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

Both, I hear tell, are of the highest caliber....music, music, music and more music...let there be songs to fill the air indeed. And we also have a gathering of family and friends and friends we haven't met yet with either roses or begonias or bells or rings or you name it...and perhaps a smile or two too...bop bop be buzz bop. Hi my name is mine and yours is yours, and glad we meet finally. One of the nice parts of the ride is the evening, when rjjrrjjrr pulls over and sets those air-brakes with a wooshhh. The ritual rolling down of the windows and stretching and knee bends are just perfect after a long day's ride. There will be time ahead where we pull the all-nighter, but methinks they are still a bit off in the future. For now, as the dusk settles with the crisp air stand up and lean out and breath it all in. The sunset sure was magnificent huh. The way it painted the sky after dropping below those pines. Someone oughta write a song. Listen...shhhh...over in the distance hear that rumble? It's the bull frogs warming up. And out over the pond in that direction, the crickets are going at it by the rocks, and just in the fading light you can see the bats doing a number on the bugs. Yup, the night air smells mighty fine, the stars are starting to do there twinkling. And look at those fireflies darting everywhere. The pond is a beckoning...last one in does the dishes...

Joy to the world All the boys and girls now Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me If I were the king of the world Tell you what I'd do I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the war Make sweet love to you Sing it now... Joy to the world All the boys and girls Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me You know I love the ladies Love to have my fun I'm a high life flyer and a rainbow rider A straight shootin' son-of-a-gun I said a straight shootin' son-of-a-gun Joy to the world All the boys and girls Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me ......coffee is on.... and yes indeed joy to you and me.... hey Mr. Mayor.... Night Stella! now who's got pie?

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves The echo of a distant tide Comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the where's or why's But something stirs and something tries And starts to climb towards the light Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me And do I take you by the hand And lead you through the land And help me understand the best I can And no one calls us to move on And no one forces down our eyes No one speaks And no one tries No one flies around the sun Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes Inviting and inciting me to rise And through the window in the wall Come streaming in on sunlight wings A million bright ambassadors of morning And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky.
