I like when Bobby sings Catfish John too but yeah Mission in the Rain is a really beautiful song. "But I'll get back, On my feet some day. The good Lord willing, If he says I may. I know that the life, I'm living's no good. I'll get a new start, Live the life I should"

I saw him play Mission in the rain on 1/14/95 at the Warfield. Between Garcia and the Grateful Dead, I saw him almost a 100 times, and that was one of the best shows I ever saw. The Shinning Star was about 25 minutes.

Wasn't directing tickets to Ticketsnow because they NEVER repeat NEVER went on sale through TICKETBASTARD for Chicago on January 24. Read the truth I posted about this on that date. What a rottem and wasteful experience that was!!!

    Re: Ticketmaster---TicketsNow
I don't want to have to defend TM but they would not reidirect you to TicketsNow. That would be your choice to visit that site not a mandate from TM. It seems to me that all the really good seats were sold through the presale and GDTS TOO, leaving TM with the rest. Now how do the TicketsNow and Stubhubs get a hold of tickets that I am not totally sure of but I know for sporting events season ticket holders and corporate ticket holders can sell their seats to a company like Stubhub so that they can turn around and sell them for you. I guess you can also make a few bucks doing that. Since there are no season ticket holders for a concert I am not sure how it works for that but I imagine corporations flat out own some seats in venues and they sell off concert tickets to stubhub, that part is just my guess. To be honest I'd rather buy concert tickets through TM than any other outlet especially for shows that sell out fast because TM is the only distributor that can handle thousands of orders at once. If TM would have been used for the presale rather than Musictoday, then that whole fiasco would have never happened. Although I thought LiveNation did a good job. Musictoday did not. Re: Ticketmaster---TicketsNow
The link I provided doesn't appear to work anymore. There are also many articles if you go to Google News and enter Springsteen Ticketmaster in the search box. When others on this thread suggested that Ticketmaster was funneling tickets to TicketsNow, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Ticketmaster's reputation and relationship with the artists and the public would be so damaged (by underhandedly not letting the average fan get their hands on tickets at face price while at the same time making a huge profit on the secondary market) that I just can't see Ticketmaster being so stupid. OTOH, I suspect that it is true that there ARE underhanded deals going on. It's no longer on their website, but the New York State Attorney General issued a report on ticket distribution entitled "Why Can't I get Tickets?" (or something similar) that showed that ticket brokers pay bribes to the venues (or whoever is issuing tickets) to be able to buy blocks of tickets to hot events. Now, the report might be quite outdated today (it was issued around 10 years ago) because scalping is now legal in NY and also the growth of internet sales. But corruption is timeless. TicketsNow and StubHub are not ticket sellers per se. They bring buyer and seller together, and they make a commission from both. So the buyer pays the asking price plus 10%, and the seller receives the proceeds less 10%. Nice business, huh? If the ticket goes unsold, it means nothing to TicketsNow or StubHub. It's the owner of the tickets that loses out. The complaint in the Springsteen case does appear to be that, like for The Dead, customers who couldn't get tickets were suggested to visit TicketsNow, NOT that Ticketmaster redirected tickets to TicketsNow, bypassing fans. The question then would be, who were the tickets redirected to? If TicketsNow themselves, that would be a big scandal, and seems unlikely to me. So it makes more sense that all kinds of people with no intention of going to the concert try to get tickets in order to resell them at a profit. Just take a look at all the ticket sellers on eBay...anybody can become a ticket reseller these days, all you need are a computer and an eBay account.

    Re: Mail Order
Actually, there's a third venue where mail order demand exceeds supply (PA-Spectrum...2nd night only). Here's the closing paragraph from the GDTS e-mail dated 1/22: We are waiting for the last bit of mail postmarked the 13th to arrive before starting the ticketing process. Orders that we are unable to fill from MSG, Spectrum and Shoreline reserved will be will be returned before we start the ticketing process. Tickets will start going out in the next few weeks. So, if you equate "a few weeks" with three, and the note came out two weeks ago, we're still a week or two away from seeing tickets in our mailboxes. And the poor souls who end up drawing short straws for MSG, Spectrum and/or Shoreline will be notified first. So the two takeaways from all this are <1> no near-term news is good news (for NY, PA & CA patrons, anyway), and <2> patience is an admirable (if elusive) virtue! We'll know soon!

I am flying into SF that weekend where I have rented a room near Union Sq. I am looking for a ride down to Mts View. As I look at a map, I see it's a ways. Is there any public transportation? Is it more convenient to rent a room down in the south bay or stay in the city and just attend the concert? help

yes it is mostly garage parking....there is a couple of small privatley owned lots that allow for a shakedown..most of them charge like $20 event parking...you can get there anytime to park and set up if you need to.....however the garage diagnolly to the north east is the only place i haven't seen a police presence...becareful everyone the worcester police do not like us...they are very quick to react and will use there batons..happy show everyone

I used to live in the bay area, and the best public trans option is to take caltrain- not sure if there's a station near Union Sq. or near shoreline, so check out the locations on their website. (www.caltrain dot com) It would probably be easier to just stay somewhere near shoreline, but I personally love wandering around San Francisco, so if you have the time I'd stay there.

It's still 5 weeks away but I"m trying to figure out where everyone's going to be...I'd love to meet up with some of my cyber friends from here. Anyone have any input? only 4 more days!! How time flies when your waiting for a tour to start. I saw the GD 3 times, 89' & 95', all at RFK. But I really got on the bus in 96', started doing mini tours. Furthur, Other ones, The Dead. Walking out of the Atlanta show in 04' I never thought I would have to wait this long for another show. Have seen Ratdog and P&F plenty of times, and they are both great. But it doesnt compare with seeing the boys together, thats where its at for me. I really think this will be a special tour (without a doubt for me personally). There has always been some naysayers and gripers before every tour. Though this year seems to be quite a bit more. I know alot of it has to do with the ticket prices and I can understand folks pain. Though once youve hacked threw the red tape, get to the show, lights go down, music starts and everything else will wash away. Phil has talked about the fans "completing the circuit". Just as important as what the band does, what we do will determine how great these shows will be. Hope everybody brings that positive energy with them, I know I will. See you at Greensboro, DC, C'ville, Philly x2.

I've heard the same thing, and Inglewood is the ghetto, let me tell you. My dad lives up near there and forbid me to stay right by the venue - keep in mind I"m 34 lol. He recommended staying at the Mariott by the Airport which is still pretty close. And we were planning on walking to the show and back but from what I"ve heard, that's not a good idea. I'm still debating on driving into the lot, especially if we can't even tailgate. I'll keep you posted on anything I hear, I jsut want to be able to meet up with some peeps for a pre-party celebration. Good luck at the doc and take care of yourself! You gotta get nice and healthy for the shows!!!! ~Tam

I'm heading down to Philly for both shows. I was wondering if anyone with Spectrum experience can attest to the parking lot scene? I've been to a few ratdog/phil shows the past few years and get mixed results in different cities. How are the cops in Philly for these types of events? I notice the Phillies/Mets are playing a 3:40 game on the Saturday. Should be a crazy scene.

I have been reading today some of the older messages and I have to say I am sick! I cannot believe the shit I’m hearing. Everyone can have their opinion so I will have mine. The bitching and moaning over ticket prices? Sure the dead have most always been one of the more reasonable priced tickets but instead of crying about it and crapping on the band maybe think to yourself for one moment……they have done so much over the years for so little that just maybe there is a good reason. Ya I was surprised by the price but instead of throwing an ungrateful pile of shit in their face I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe there is a reason they did what they did and it may just be none of our business. Oh and by the way when you buy that $50 to $75 ticket to most other bands remember you’re probably going to see a 2 hour concert not a 4 hour show. For the people bashing on GDTS TOO you don’t have a clue. I over the years have ordered more tickets from them than anywhere else and was NEVER let down. GDTS TOO has worked hard to offer us all something…. An alternative to Ticket-Bastard!! Now I have to here you cry about their inability to offer you instant gratification well go fuck yourself. To the person or persons who said in their post (referring to it being ok for individuals planning on going to the concerts just to party in the lot) “Phil if you really did write that then I'm sorry, I love you but shut the fuck up and just play good music.....leave the outside to us.....we can handle it.” Well I disagree it is absolutely the bands responsibility to be concerned with the lot and what goes on in it. It has been proven that that people cannot handle it. Do you remember the 90’s? Well I do and it sure the fuck was not like the 80’s. I still have my Deer Creek ticket to a show that never happened due to fuckheads in the lot! Now I have no problem with someone on tour that didn’t have a ticket for a show along the way I can understand that but if you don’t have a ticket and you ‘re going just for the party DON’T your just fucking it up for everyone!!!! Finally for everyone out there with that groovy positive attitude hope to see ya in Chicago, Denver and California

Just had to tell my little story of poetic justice... I work with this guy who all in all is a pretty cool guy but he's a bit of a "know it all" and he never stops talking and rarely lets you get a word in. Anyway he's alway's throwing little jabs at me about being a Deadhead and just tries to get under my skin( I usually just grin and give him that "I know something you dont know" look.) Here's an example: Me and this other guy were talking one day about when Jerry went into a diebetic coma and had to re-learn playing guitar,He butts in and says: "How come he did'nt learn how to play it right?" This is coming from a guy who thinks KISS is the greatest band ever!(What a clown!)(Who listens to clowns)(LOL) Anyway-Last week I was talking to my friend at work about the upcoming Dead shows and how expensive tickets were and how I could'nt go because I had to spend my ticket money on a lawyer to get custody of my step-kids who are in an unhappy home, and again he butts in with "How the hell can all those SCUMBAGS afford 100-200 dollar tickets?" This really burned me,I must admit- So I half-jokingly said-"HEY-Dont call my FAMILY scumbags!" So he say's "If They were really your family somebody would give you a ticket!! Well GUESS WHAT??? That was last friday and over the weekend is when I got miracled by someone on these pages!!!!! IN YOUR FACE, MOFO!!!!! Needless to say I walked into work monday with a huge shit-eatin' grin on my face and when he seen me he goes"What are YOU so happy about??" heeheehee :-)(-:

Garcia, was in fact a kind of Kiss fan. Known to hang backstage, friends with Ace Freehley, matter of fact, Jerry tought Ace to play new leads, and brushed him up on the pentatonic (sic) scales... after Garcia saw Kiss in the mid-70s, he said he wanted to be on the "Ace side" of the stage, hence the switch with Phil round about that time.

Hey all, The kindness of a friend has blessed me with a car to drive from CT to Greensboro, but I do not know what me and my brother are going to do for tix. I am just a wanderer and I wandered back to my little piece of ground in my hometown(I know wrong band, but Floyd is sick too) and I was able to procure a car. A miracle would be much appreciated for this Head and his brother to be able to get into the Greensboro concert. I have been looking forward to it since I was in California and I heard the tour announcment. If I could be dancing in the streets with yall in Greensboro, I would be truely Grateful. Any stranger that wants to stop n shake my hand, and possible miracle a couple tix would be so appreciated. Until the 4 winds may safely blow u home Dan

RatDog Live Bringing the Magic to Dead Tour"The guys who bring us RatDog Live - those stellar recordings mixed and burned to CD on the fly and available 10 minutes after show end - will be offering their talents on the upcoming Dead tour. A three-CD set of each Dead show will be available right after the show, so stop by the merchandise stands when you get to the venue. Thanks for the quick update. Although, I must say selling only 500 isn't a very good way to make money. I'm sure they could sell many, many more than that. If they don't update that plan, there will certainly be some disappointed heads, myself included. It will suck if I can't get a few of the shows. I'm only gonna make it to the two Worcester shows. I was hoping to get quality recordings of the Branford Marsalis shows.

To get a hold of the tour recordings. I wouldn't doubt if most if not all of the shows will end up as vines right here on dead.net. I mean the taxi tour NYC shows were vined less than a week after the show date. Ratdog Live makes the CD's right there at the show so they are I'm sure limited to how many CD's they can make in a short amount of time. I'm not totally sure how it works. The cool thing about Ratdog Live is that you can get a CD right then and there but hey I can wait a few weeks for "other" recordings to come out.
