I just left the following on the “Shout Outs” page"Yo Godspal! You ever even been to a show with Jerry? Yea it was bigger and better..... after 25 years! Who cares about bigger and better, and the definition of cover band is a band that covers other peoples songs just the way they were done by the original. If you think that the Dead are a cover band then so is Van Halen (running with the devil and most of the songs on their 1st album are old 30s blues songs) and the Rolling Stones and Clapton and Led Zeppelin, and many other bands that take songs that they like or admire and redo them. So the Dead would have to be a tribute band.... but the core members are all in the band so it's a tribute to themselves! Like most people that claim to be Christians you sure are quick to judge. I see 2 to 3 hundred bands a year working. From the 29th of April to the 12th of May I worked Neil Young, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Chesney and Billy Joel/Elton John. I took the time in all that to drive 7 hours to Chicago for the show on the 4th and to fly to Mountainview for the show on the 10th. The rest of the month will include Andre Rieu, Yani and Sugarland. Next month is a bunch of other national acts. I CHOOSE TO SEE THE DEAD BECAUSE THEY ARE STILL, HANDS DOWN, THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD. i'LL TAKE TIME OUT OF MY LIFE ANYTIME THEY PLAY TO SEE THEM." I left it in response to someone calling this band a cover band. Sooo maybe I'm a little rabid but I am one loyal Motherf#%*er and I won't apologize for my response. I will say thank you to the band for lighting that space in my heart that has been dark for so long. Thanks for validating my conception of what the Dead means to me with my wife and my grown kids that have lived on the peripheral of my relationship with this huge part of my soul but now have experienced it. After Chicago my wife said “I Get It” she felt the magic. Same in Mountainview with my boys, 25 and 22 that have lived with this all their lives, listen to the music and now know the feeling. I meant what I said, this band, not the Grateful Dead, but the Dead is the best band in the world. If the Grateful Dead could be here then that might not be the case but that will never happen. It’s funny that the Grateful Dead went through what a handful of keyboard changes and there wasn’t a question of who they were. I hope that when other band members pass (you know… the wheel thing) that the band still plays the songs that I so want to hear and new ones that will reflect the band at that time with the same magic as in 69, 79, 89 or 09. I also hope when I’m gone that my children and my children’s children have the same opportunity to feel the magic.

    The end of Spring tour...
Well, I feel a want for more, but know I am fortunate for the shows I was able to see (8 including Penn State). Then again, I need time to save up some money, as it sure wasn't cheap or without sacrifice (well worth it though, just saying...).The last show at the Gorge was fantastic for so many reasons. It turned out to be a 80 degree day, met some awesome Washington State folks, was center stage 7 rows back, and it was our 3rd wedding anniversary! Was a grate trip, we flew in to Seattle and picked up a rental vehicle in the pouring rain. Drove to Moses Lake to be closer to the venue so we wouldn't have to drive so far when they opened, and ended up driving through quite a snowstorm through the cascade mountains. It was surprising to see, as it was snowing so hard that it was accumulating on the roadway and we certainly didn't expect it. Fortunately, we drove out of that, and the weather improved. And as I mentioned, the day of the show was 80 and sunny! Back home on the east coast now and reading others viewpoints of the shows here. Love hearing about them. My take on the shows are that they definitely got better as the tour went on. Of particular note, I got to see the progression of Warren as he took more of a stage presence as the tour went on. The gorge show was definitely a rock star Warren night IMO. He was on fire, first with the Allman's, and seemed to pick up steam with the Dead. My appreciation for him has definitely grown, and I now count myself as a huge Warren fan. LOVED his version of Althea that night, do I dare say even more then bobby's from earlier in the tour!? Anyway, thought I'd share just a bit now that the ride is over (for now). I am anxiously waiting for Rothbury, and at the same time glad that I have a little time to save up for it! Will probably end up having to skip a couple other shows I had planned on attending (DSO), but I do love those outdoor Dead shows! And as far as the Gorge goes, what a FANTASTIC venue! Would love to do that again if the opportunity arises. Now I feel the need to check out Red Rocks, as I have heard that setting is just as nice, but due to the distance, it would take The Dead to play there to really motivate me, thus the reason I am going to Rothbury. It was so nice to be part of the scene again, to be around so many newer, young folks intermingled with us older, still very much young at heart ones. Never would have thought that there would be another opportunity for a tour, never mind just a nostalgic show, but now I am thinking, how could they not do this again. I mean, it truly was a win-win. The band and all that are employed to stage the tour certainly made some money, but even more importantly, they all seemed to be having a most excellent time up there, and those of us that were fortunate enough to catch a show, know everyone else was digging it. So boys, if any of you actually find time to read any of these postings, lets do more together, as I for one will agree to do my part, which is attend show(s) that are feasible and be a part of the lovely deadhead community to welcome the next generation in with open arms. Speaking of this, at the Gorge show there was a 18 year old high schooler that convinced his dad to bring him, and that kid really got it! It was fun watching him react to the band and crowd. This is how it will never die. Musicians, sure, but the music will be passed on. Please bring on another tour! See ya at Rothbury!

I totally agree with you. This is not the Grateful Dead it is The Dead. 2 pretty different bands really. Both grate in there own special ways (I know that sounds a little cheesy but hey it is true). It is impossible to replace Jerry and his unique guitar, vocals, perspective and soul are missed believe me. But if you went in to this tour with an open mind I just don't see how you could have been disappointed. I was not a Warren fan going in but coming out I am a huge fan. He made this tour folks just admit it. He brought his own style to the mix, he wasn't trying to be Jerry he wasn't trying to sound like him and he wasn't just sitting in filling space. There were times when he sounded hauntingly similar to Jerry (China Doll, Morning Dew for example), times when he sounded very soulful like Brent and times when he has just being Warren. He really moved me and not unlike what Jerry used to do for me. That is where I will disagree with Peggy-O, I was almost in tears several times. The same could be said for Jeff too. He brought his own style and it fit in beautifully. I love Ratdog and Phil and Friends and all but there is something special and kind of hard to explain when they are all together, then throw in Billy and Mickey and the raw power is back!! What also returned was the lot scene. Walking through the lots at Shoreline and Washington seriously made me feel like 20 years old again. I felt like I was back where I belong, and that is a very special feeling I will hold onto forever. They played this tour with emotion and power and they were as tight as I have ever heard them.. EVER. There were shows in the 90's with Jerry that didn't have a fraction of the power, emotion, magic or energy these guys are holding right now. Some of those shows felt like they were just going through the motions. NOT in 2009!! They hit this tour with a sense of "We are still the kings of the jam bands, and now we are going to show you". Sure some shows were better than others that is how it always was, is and will be. That's why I always suggest to catch as many Dead shows as possible because that one magical show that touches your soul and changes your life is out there. Although I haven't heard any of the shows from this tour that I would consider to be "bad". All I can say is "When can we do this again??" Seriously!! "Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space. It rainbow then exploded, left a bus stop in its place. The bus come by and I got on, thats when it all began. It was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land"

I am flying into SF that weekend where I have rented a room near Union Sq. I am looking for a ride down to Mts View. As I look at a map, I see it's a ways. Is there any public transportation? Is it more convenient to rent a room down in the south bay or stay in the city and just attend the concert? help

yes it is mostly garage parking....there is a couple of small privatley owned lots that allow for a shakedown..most of them charge like $20 event parking...you can get there anytime to park and set up if you need to.....however the garage diagnolly to the north east is the only place i haven't seen a police presence...becareful everyone the worcester police do not like us...they are very quick to react and will use there batons..happy show everyone

I used to live in the bay area, and the best public trans option is to take caltrain- not sure if there's a station near Union Sq. or near shoreline, so check out the locations on their website. (www.caltrain dot com) It would probably be easier to just stay somewhere near shoreline, but I personally love wandering around San Francisco, so if you have the time I'd stay there.

only 4 more days!! How time flies when your waiting for a tour to start. I saw the GD 3 times, 89' & 95', all at RFK. But I really got on the bus in 96', started doing mini tours. Furthur, Other ones, The Dead. Walking out of the Atlanta show in 04' I never thought I would have to wait this long for another show. Have seen Ratdog and P&F plenty of times, and they are both great. But it doesnt compare with seeing the boys together, thats where its at for me. I really think this will be a special tour (without a doubt for me personally). There has always been some naysayers and gripers before every tour. Though this year seems to be quite a bit more. I know alot of it has to do with the ticket prices and I can understand folks pain. Though once youve hacked threw the red tape, get to the show, lights go down, music starts and everything else will wash away. Phil has talked about the fans "completing the circuit". Just as important as what the band does, what we do will determine how great these shows will be. Hope everybody brings that positive energy with them, I know I will. See you at Greensboro, DC, C'ville, Philly x2.

I've heard the same thing, and Inglewood is the ghetto, let me tell you. My dad lives up near there and forbid me to stay right by the venue - keep in mind I"m 34 lol. He recommended staying at the Mariott by the Airport which is still pretty close. And we were planning on walking to the show and back but from what I"ve heard, that's not a good idea. I'm still debating on driving into the lot, especially if we can't even tailgate. I'll keep you posted on anything I hear, I jsut want to be able to meet up with some peeps for a pre-party celebration. Good luck at the doc and take care of yourself! I'm heading down to Philly for both shows. I was wondering if anyone with Spectrum experience can attest to the parking lot scene? I've been to a few ratdog/phil shows the past few years and get mixed results in different cities. How are the cops in Philly for these types of events? I notice the Phillies/Mets are playing a 3:40 game on the Saturday. Should be a crazy scene.

I have been reading today some of the older messages and I have to say I am sick! I cannot believe the shit I’m hearing. Everyone can have their opinion so I will have mine. The bitching and moaning over ticket prices? Sure the dead have most always been one of the more reasonable priced tickets but instead of crying about it and crapping on the band maybe think to yourself for one moment……they have done so much over the years for so little that just maybe there is a good reason. Ya I was surprised by the price but instead of throwing an ungrateful pile of shit in their face I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe there is a reason they did what they did and it may just be none of our business. Oh and by the way when you buy that $50 to $75 ticket to most other bands remember you’re probably going to see a 2 hour concert not a 4 hour show. For the people bashing on GDTS TOO you don’t have a clue. I over the years have ordered more tickets from them than anywhere else and was NEVER let down. GDTS TOO has worked hard to offer us all something…. An alternative to Ticket-Bastard!! Now I have to here you cry about their inability to offer you instant gratification well go fuck yourself. To the person or persons who said in their post (referring to it being ok for individuals planning on going to the concerts just to party in the lot) “Phil if you really did write that then I'm sorry, I love you but shut the fuck up and just play good music.....leave the outside to us.....we can handle it.” Well I disagree it is absolutely the bands responsibility to be concerned with the lot and what goes on in it. It has been proven that that people cannot handle it. Do you remember the 90’s? Well I do and it sure the fuck was not like the 80’s. I still have my Deer Creek ticket to a show that never happened due to fuckheads in the lot! Now I have no problem with someone on tour that didn’t have a ticket for a show along the way I can understand that but if you don’t have a ticket and you ‘re going just for the party DON’T your just fucking it up for everyone!!!! Finally for everyone out there with that groovy positive attitude hope to see ya in Chicago, Denver and California

Just had to tell my little story of poetic justice... I work with this guy who all in all is a pretty cool guy but he's a bit of a "know it all" and he never stops talking and rarely lets you get a word in. Anyway he's alway's throwing little jabs at me about being a Deadhead and just tries to get under my skin( I usually just grin and give him that "I know something you dont know" look.) Here's an example: Me and this other guy were talking one day about when Jerry went into a diebetic coma and had to re-learn playing guitar,He butts in and says: "How come he did'nt learn how to play it right?" This is coming from a guy who thinks KISS is the greatest band ever!(What a clown!)(Who listens to clowns)(LOL) Anyway-Last week I was talking to my friend at work about the upcoming Dead shows and how expensive tickets were and how I could'nt go because I had to spend my ticket money on a lawyer to get custody of my step-kids who are in an unhappy home, and again he butts in with "How the hell can all those SCUMBAGS afford 100-200 dollar tickets?" This really burned me,I must admit- So I half-jokingly said-"HEY-Dont call my FAMILY scumbags!" So he say's "If They were really your family somebody would give you a ticket!! Well GUESS WHAT??? That was last friday and over the weekend is when I got miracled by someone on these pages!!!!! IN YOUR FACE, MOFO!!!!! Needless to say I walked into work monday with a huge shit-eatin' grin on my face and when he seen me he goes"What are YOU so happy about??" heeheehee :-)(-:

Garcia, was in fact a kind of Kiss fan. Known to hang backstage, friends with Ace Freehley, matter of fact, Jerry tought Ace to play new leads, and brushed him up on the pentatonic (sic) scales... after Garcia saw Kiss in the mid-70s, he said he wanted to be on the "Ace side" of the stage, hence the switch with Phil round about that time.

Hey all, The kindness of a friend has blessed me with a car to drive from CT to Greensboro, but I do not know what me and my brother are going to do for tix. I am just a wanderer and I wandered back to my little piece of ground in my hometown(I know wrong band, but Floyd is sick too) and I was able to procure a car. A miracle would be much appreciated for this Head and his brother to be able to get into the Greensboro concert. I have been looking forward to it since I was in California and I heard the tour announcment. If I could be dancing in the streets with yall in Greensboro, I would be truely Grateful. Any stranger that wants to stop n shake my hand, and possible miracle a couple tix would be so appreciated. Until the 4 winds may safely blow u home Dan

Thanks for the quick update. Although, I must say selling only 500 isn't a very good way to make money. I'm sure they could sell many, many more than that. If they don't update that plan, there will certainly be some disappointed heads, myself included. It will suck if I can't get a few of the shows. I'm only gonna make it to the two Worcester shows. I was hoping to get quality recordings of the Branford Marsalis shows.

Hey all! I was checking out the latest in THE DEAD tour '09, and I saw this really cool website: www.charityfolks.com Right now they are auctioning VIP tickets to any of the dates of the tour. And the best part is that all the money they get goes to charity. How amazing is that! Here is the direct link to check it out more: http://www.charityfolks.com/cfauctions/artist_vertical.asp?artist_id=21…

To get a hold of the tour recordings. I wouldn't doubt if most if not all of the shows will end up as vines right here on dead.net. I mean the taxi tour NYC shows were vined less than a week after the show date. Ratdog Live makes the CD's right there at the show so they are I'm sure limited to how many CD's they can make in a short amount of time. I'm not totally sure how it works. The cool thing about Ratdog Live is that you can get a CD right then and there but hey I can wait a few weeks for "other" recordings to come out.
