    Thank You My Friends
The first time I saw the Grateful Dead was 1966 in Golden Gate Park. I came over from the Sunset district with a couple of friends to play around in the park, and then we heard this music playing and we went to it. I came up behind Pigpen and then saw Jerry, Bobby, Phil, and Billy, and that is the day I fell in love with the Dead and the guitar. They always seemed to me like the big kids from the neighborhood that made great sounds and made people dance. It makes me both thankful and sad on this 50th(my 49th) anniversary. Thank You Pig, Jerry, Bobby, Phil, and Billy for the countless pluses in my life because of my connection with you. Here is to the next Fifty!!!!

As someone who constantly daydreams I just want to share this. After having experienced the 5 shows, SC on you tube, Chicago live (lucky mail order winner) I hope that all of the boys enjoyed the shows so much that they are presently devising a plan for a mini tour next summer, how about Greek, Red Rocks, Alpine, Pittsburg, Boston and NYC? (Those were some of my favorite locales, I was lucky enough to see quite a few shows) Let the nah Sayers say what they will I.e. Money grab, thought those were their final shows yada yada, I had a blast and hope you did too. Here is to more:) Jay

Hey all, had a grate time in Chicago, but did start feeling a little sore throat on Sunday night. Had chest and nasal congestion for 2 weeks, felt a bit better yesterday and even better today but did wake up with a bloody eye this morning. Although that could have been partly due to attending the local Pig and Whiskey festival all weekend. Not surprised to hear that others caught something too, lots of bugs from lots of places all concentrated in one small area. As long as it "only makes me stronger" it was well worth the illness to have enjoyed such a wonderful weekend.

Hey friends - I wanted to share a blog post my husband wrote on our experience and Chicago that also includes our photos and a few videos. Everyday I think to myself, "Be Kind" as a mantra I am taking with me from the experience. Enjoy and if anyone's going to Jerry Jam in New Hampshire this weekend - see you there! We have the campsite with the plastic flower garden :) http://www.mitcharachiahomestead.com/blog/all-thats-left-to-do-is-smile…

what are the chances this will happen or at least a few tour dates scattered among a couple venues ? I have a friend who likes Phish a lot and stated they know someone who works with concert venues in Cleveland area. They are convinced some sort of collaboration with Trey will happen and Cleveland is one destination. Seems kind of fishy too me,, either way Chicago was a fine sendoff if that was what it was intended to be.. Coming up Peach Fest and LOCKN,, both look fantastic and those will do just fine if nothing else happens in 2015

Looks like you two had a real fine time in Chicago. I did not make it but did attend the SC shows. They to were magical. I feel lucky to have heard the last St. Stephen as that was my one and only ever.

I have been trying to contact Google about celebrating Jerry's 73rd Birthday with the opening Google search for the day dedicated to Jerry. I posted this on Google News in the hope some person in charge will see it: Request by me Jul 21 Add a reply On Aug. 1 2015 Jerry Garcia would have been 73 years old. I would, and probably over 2 million "Deadheads", would love to see the opening Google search on that day remembering Jerry. Thanks for your consideration, and I hope I am sending this to the right people. Jay Colbe jaycolbe@yahoo.com Anyone have any other ideas?

Yeah, caught all the shows and was so happy to hear St. Stephen in person for the first time. Was also happy to get my Morning Dew in SC too! Was a heckuva ride for me. Though quite the eye opener when I got my credit card bill! :-) But sooooooooo worth it.

Yeah, still can't believe after the 2 Santa Clara shows and coming home... I decided to go for it and head to Chicago. Totally out of character for me. They were experiences that I will never forget. When they hit the stage the first show in SC, it was like seeing a friend I haven't seen in almost 30 years.

I have no idea how old you are, or when you first started going to shows, But I am a 57 year old male.and went to my first show in 1972 at the Nassau Coliseum. I was fortunate and able to attend quite a few shows from a wide assortment of years.I would not go to any of the 5 shows for a variety of reasons, most importantly I did not think the shows would be worth it. I felt in many ways, that they kind of mailed it in. They were incredibly under rehearsed, leading to sloppy shows and awkward transitions. The shows had no flow and Trey was totally lost. Obviously, there were going to be great moments, but they were few and far between. For the most part, the set lists did not make sense and they played some of their weakest songs ie Built to Last, West LA etc. Hornsby was nothing like he was in 90' when he joined and the drummers did the shows as if blindfolded. It was great that you loved it, but these shows will not age well and it was a pretty shitty job considering the significance. Listen to New Years 2002-03 Other Ones show and you will clearly see what I mean.

Sorry you didn't appreciate the effort...it was not 1967, 1972, 1974, 1977 or anything but 2015....agreed the flow was not what we were used to but the love was in the air with the music and more importantly the crowd vibe....the music has always been the core but the experience was always larger than the seamless segues. If your first show was 72, you are not what you were then, mine 73...I am not either...so why hold the boys to a standard we as fans can't live up to....Chicago was magic pure and simple, cheap....no, but a memory I will take to my grave....absolutely.... I walked away with 40 new friends.....thanks to 12+ hours of music and much kindness, acceptance and generosity..... you know our love will not fade away ..... mmmmmbop bop, bop bop!!!!!

Well my friend, everyone's entitled to their opinion and that's what these forums are all about. And with opinions come the point counter point... I'm two years behind you @ 55 years of age and for 38 of my 55 I've loved the music. While I didn't make the SC shows, the build-up and ultimate delivery of the Chicago experience (all three shows) completely exceeded my expectations. And I mean all aspects but most notably, the waves and waves of incredible emotions all three evenings all generated by the music. I'd be surprised if you felt the energy and re-experienced the scene in Chicago over that long weekend if you didn't feel like it was "just like the good ole days." Because that was my take-away...and it was a glorious "Fare Thee Well" where every band member embraced the moment to its fullest.

You guys are correct. So much of life and especially in regards to them is experiential. I can play the shows repeatedly and pick apart each nuance, but I am approaching the event differently. In truth, my only interest was the music. As heinous as it must sound, I found the crowds annoying. I embrace all the values and openness, but once I was in my early 20's I valued room. I made many friends throughout my years, but I was either blessed or cursed having made a bunch of money young. I would buy tickets as business expenses and had "brokers" who would get my friends and I first 3 rows for ridiculous amounts of money. Arguably, not the hippie ideal, but a great ride while it lasted. Life caught up with me, so I remember a certain time of life with great fondness.

It's good to get a cross section of opions regarding Fare Thee Well. I went to Chicago to pay tribute to a band's music that has given me immense pleasure and great enjoyment for the last 45 years. I did not set the bar high and was pleasantly surprised and delighted by the overall experience. I thought the band played the best they could, the shows were well organized by the promoters, the atmosphere was magic and the city was buzzing for the whole weekend. I went to the MAX and hit the Guinness hard and enjoyed every minute! I agree with your comment about the Other Ones 12-31-2002 show. It is indeed an excellent show. Jimmy Herring is quite superb, tremendous set list, a great high energy show altogether. To make comparisons to the present day is both futile and obsolete, as stated in an earlier response on this post. I also disagree with your statement that Built to Last and West LA Fadeaway are weak songs? All I know, it was an incredible experience and a privilege to be part of the scene at GD shows when Jerry was blowing it away night after night. Although Chicago may not be a fitting end for some, it was fine for me!!

all i know is i would do it again next weekend if possible. i went there half expecting to be at least a little disappointed but i HAD to go.and i was not even a little disappointed except the shows were too short :). sure, one could nitpick any of several aspects i guess, but the real test is would you do it again? yessirree! PS: crowds get to me too, so i know what you mean.

On 10/31/15, Dead & Company will perform at MSG it's not being billed as " Fare Thee Well East" as Phil or Trey are not involved it's going to be Otiel Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti & Jon Mayer, top tier tickets will be LESS than a hundred dollars & some tickets will be fifty dollars in honor of the 50th Anniversary, tickets go on sale to the general public, August 14th & American Express Card members can purchase tickets August 10th. I received an email at 3:06am today with this information at first I thought it was a hoax however the email provides a link to sign up for the latest updates. However for some reason it's not here on dead.net....yet. It's been rumored since FTW Chicago ended that at least one East Coast show was going to be performed & now it looks like it is indeed going to happen. HAPPY THURSDAY, DEADLAND!!!!!!!

30 minutes into the PRESALE and I do not have tickets but the scalper sites are filled with them. I got an amex card just for this.. you win amex, I lose. Got locked out, will wait for public or keep trying presale. Why didn't they do a lottery for this? This is ridiculous. I guess I should have bought some robots and some proxy servers and got tickets the scalper way. Allowing vultures to act as middlemen between the band and the fans is no way to run a business.

From now one most of my live music will be in bars or clubs.... Good luck if you're still trying....btw...Tedeschi Trucks at Lockin' doing Mad Dogs and Englishmen should be special....

I agree, I was able to get Lock'n tickets no problem. I guess scalpers do not mess with festivals as much? I was foolish to think it would be easy. They added a second show. I will be in NYC anyhow for a phil show on Friday, if prices get reasonable I may grab some tickets. It has been a good year, I am not going to let one show bother me too much. Yeow !!!! -- Tom

Yikes.. The Official Platinum seats dynamic pricing thing is really rude. Dynamic pricing.. got to love it. Set a fixed tier of prices for your tickets!! Fight scalping by fighting scalping, not by becoming scalpers. Lottery for example.. remember Santa Clara, fans got tickets, secondary market was controlled by fans, tickets went for face value. Do not claim free market on this tactic... Free markets are transparent. How many of these platinum seats are being bought? For how much? Only you know that that is not fair. In a free market we would know as well as you what prices are being paid. The Amex presale is just a way to gauge demand so you can set your price. That feels predatory to me because it is. The ticket counter should be a place where all are equal, not an auction where the price changes moment by moment. The game being played this week is to see who bites at what price. I wish it was scalpers who were playing this cruel game with us, but it is the band themselves. I am sure plenty of New Yorkers are hungry for a show and I respect that. But the less of us who pay $700 today the same tickets will be at $500 tomorrow, and $400 on Thursday. The general idea of dynamic pricing is bad enough. But add the big data piece to it and it gets really gross. Ticketmaster for example knows who I am, they certainly know what shows I have gone to and what I have paid. They know where I live and can approximate my income based on that. They may have other data points as well, depending on how much it matters to them. I am using an amex card, have to, amex knows my income even better than just having an address. Perhaps the algorithm is something like.. Amex shows him with income of x, offer him tickets at price Y + 30 percent. How would I know what price others see ? I have enough experience to know a small amount of what they know. They know what you earn, they know what you have bought, particularly tickets, like any good scammer choosing a mark, they do their research. Our friends in the band have decided to go along with this dynamic pricing as a way to fight scalping, really there are other ways to fight evil without becoming evil. A fun game would be to see what type prices they offer. Me right now I see.. For Saturday Night Sec 118 7 19 - 20 2 US $650.00 Anyone else seeing higher or lower than that ? There is a chance that it is just strictly start high, move lower based on time approach. -- Tom

I think them doing a mini tour is good for all those who never saw the actual band them selves. I hope these all come together after all. For few reasons , musically will be nice to listen to and for touring for the tribe to get together again. I myself wont go but it is only because I am an old traditions type of head.... Will for sure catch them on recordings though. Enjoy it people can not last forever. We are very lucky these guys have as much passion still.

After a crashed computer and missing some important weeks of info about these shows, my Mom had heart surgery and I had to fly back east from Los Angeles and I missed another week of info (Mom pulled through and all appear OK!), only to get back home and see yet another Deadhead unfriendly presale taking place (you need to have an Amex card). So we go from football season ticket holders scalping our tickets to Amex card holders getting them. WTF!!! If all seats are available to the presale, they will not need to have the public onsale (were all seats available, anyone know?). Not being an Amex card holder, I took a look at TM for the Los Angeles Forum New Year's shows, the 31st was already practically sold out on 8/26, and then checked the Bill Graham in San Francisco and saw that both shows could not locate even a single ticket, apparently sold out before the public onsale. Even better, it seems that your local box office will not have tickets available until the day after the public onsale, so much for helping locals get a chance at tickets by standing in line. Really!!! To sum up what I see (after a very stressful month)... It looks like you must purchase tickets online, no going to your local box office (which would eliminate those TM fees and help locals get local venue tickets), you must have an American Express card to make that ticket purchase, and most Deadheads should probably just start checking out the secondary markets, since the 8/28 onsale will probably be like the Fare Thee Well fiascos, we will likely be shutout by secondary market scalpers once again. I don't like to sound negative, but when a local can't go stand in line at the local venue box office (maybe the presale should be about going to the box office and making sure locals get a shot at local venue tickets first, not last like this ticket sale is doing) and you need a specific credit card to have a chance at tickets, someone is letting someone else screw most of us Deadheads over, AGAIN! See you all at Stubhub, where TM is probably releasing most of the tickets anyway. Tom Carr Los Angeles, CA

Feel very lucky to be able to see shows a this historic venue that only holds 7000 people!! Tix on secondary market are not much above face and are available!! Peace!!

I was wondering if anyone who sent in for a refund has heard anything. Normally I wouldn't bother but since I overpaid by about $500 for six tickets (two each night - Chicago) and not being made out of money I sent for my refund - and it's like I sent those tickets off into a black hole. Just wondering if anyone else did the same. take care, connie

I believe the form stated clearly that it would take 6-8 weeks. Since the final date to send in was July 20th, it seems August 31st is the earliest you should have expecting something, and they won't miss the target they promised until after September 14th. They didn't say why it would take that long, but they DID say that it would take that long. So, I don't think black hole is fair for a while yet.

I thought it was 6-8 weeks from when you sent it in - it never occurred to me to use July 20 as the start date - goes to show some of us read things differently. I sent in the day they announced it and I thought there would be some sort of update posted on some site somewhere - but I will be a little more patient. Apologies - I really did have a fantastic time in both Santa Clara and Chicago. take care, connie

Actually, interpreting it as 6-8 weeks from when you sent it in makes just as much or more sense then the way I did. It didn't occur to me, probably because I didn't get mine in until the deadline. I don't think 8 weeks would be up yet, though 'cause I don't think they gave us much time, did they. Anyway, no oops or sorry necessary. I too had great times at those shows!!

Personally, I've been sober 16 years now, found a wonderful lady 15 years ago (also sober) that discovered the Dead through me and we've enjoyed going to shows together (DSO, Furthur, GD50), most recently the Santa Clara shows. While we can't afford to take in the entire Dead & Company tour, we will be going to all 4 California shows (already have LA tickets, still looking for the SF tickets) and calling it our vacation, just like I did decades ago. Still nothing like a Grateful Dead show! even sober! Enjoy the shows!
