We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Somebody on the other thread, I forget who, brought up a point about the secondary market, which was basically that Rhino depends on it to ensure they sell x number of copies of each release in a very short amount of time. This guy who wrote the article worked for a record company or something, I wish I could find the post. But it totally makes sense. Basically, Rhino needs to sellout each release in 3 or 4 weeks to not only be profitable, but to extend the life of the series. By making it limited edition, they sellout immediately and actually rely on the secondary market to be there and buy out what the individuals don't buy. It amounts to free distribution for Rhino. They sell off their 16,500 Dave's Picks in a week, and never pay a dime in distribution costs. For Rhino this means more dollars per unit and less units sold to make both make a profit and re-invest in the next release (and making the next profit). So I get it. Rhino is a very unique position, in that they have a rare product with seemingly no end, and this thing called the internet. And in fact, these very message boards are a major source of advertisement. I'm just happy I'm ahead of the curve now. I spent a lot on eBay back-filling my Dead collection. What I would be interested in, is the legalities involved in re-issuing a product that they originally sold as a limited quantity item. Even if legal, I doubt they would do it, out of fear of ruining their current, buy it now, while it's hot sales model, which is undoubtedly working. One thing I feel confident in, is that if Rhino felt that re-releasing FW 69 Complete would be profitable in the long run, they would do it (and perhaps they will). But I imagine it's a tricky balance, as Morning Sun said - never underestimate the turmoil of breaking a promise to the original people who bought it (of whom I am not one - fucker cost me 400 bucks). Plus I'm sure they all have a dozen copies of all of them that they're saving for 10 years from now when they're going for a grand on eBay ;-)

FW 69 re-release

Not sure what the exact wording was when they first released it, but some of the music included in the set has been available on the 3 disc compilation.Rhino could produce a set with all 4 FW 69 shows, add 2-11-69 Fillmore East release, change the name and add a disclaimer that would say something like "portions of this set was previously released as Ltd Edition FW box set, etc." Lots of "limited Edition only", and "promo only" music has been re-released that way.

FWIW, let me echo SpaceBro's (and others) sentiment: I own FW'69, and enjoy it immensely.By all means, re-release it, so that more people can enjoy it. I do not mind scalping, or a secondary market. In general, I don't mind limited editions, bonus discs with first runs etc; companies can run their business as they see fit. But I'm a capitalist through and through: if more people want it, and Rhino can make more money, by all means let's do it. I know that the secondary market, at least in this particular case, exists bcause Rhino said that FW'69 would never be released (in any form?) again. Some people would feel cheated if, after paying a lot (NOT to Rhino though), it was re-released. But surely most Deadheads would want other Deadheads to be able to acquire this set, and there should be some way around it (cheaper packaging or whatever) to get past this?

Yes, reissue it as a limited edition of 16,000.$130 each + shipping and sales taxes where applicable. For that $130 you'll get the four shows - 2/27, 2/28, 3/1 & 3/2/1969 in 4 tye-dyed design artwork, thin cardboard type sleeves with a simple booklet with only the song titles, the track times, the songwriters credits and publishers credits with two or three photos, WITHOUT AN ESSAY, all enclosed in a lightweight cardboard case with artwork similar to the original 2005 issue.

glad to hear the 69 shrine vinyl release sounds so good. i plan on picking one up soon. as for the 69 box, and other limited releases, i think rhino needs to view their 'investment' in the grateful dead as being holders of something culturally significant. limited edition stuff should be just the initial physical product, but everything should be available via download. as i've said before, they should act like smithsonian/folkways, where nothing they have ever released goes out of print. you can't go to their site and order an original woody guthrie or leadbelly record, those have been out of print forever, but you can download it or order a custom burned cd. there is nothing you can not order. i believe rhino is just waiting for the last 150 usb's to sell, then they will offer all 30 shows via download. as for the 69box, i don't remember their wording, but a physical product probably can't, or shouldn't, be re-released that way, but all 4 shows should be put out via download, if the suits think they can legally do it. if not, lesson learned....

Dennis Wilmot, feel free to ramble on, you made some good points in a funny way. it sounds like I may have been one of the same two people seated next to you at shows;)For my two cents, I have the 30 trips box and it wouldn't bother me a bit if they made another production run in the future, with or without all the extras. I didn't buy it as an investment, I purchased it because I wanted to have the music and after missing out on FW69 I knew I would regret not having it more than I would regret spending the money. At some point I would like to pick up FW69, but there is a limit to what I can pay and feel OK about the purchase. I understand that the limited edition model is probably what makes the ongoing releases possible to this extent, so it is what it is, but it seems that they could set it up so that it would be possible to reissue things after some period of time. As far as copying limited edition releases, I guess the band makes their money when the original sale occurs and are unaffected by any subsequent transactions, so there's that.

Re-releases, Limited Editions, illegal copies, ebay prices

I throw my 2 cents into this, I agree with those that say a release of limited edition stuff as maybe a digital download is just fine with me. As always if price is the limiting factor I can not believe you can't find someone to make you a copy. Some say "oh that's illegal", sounds like corporate lawyer talk to me. I agree you shouldn't be knocking out 1,000 copies of something and selling them at the local flea market, but to slip a buddy a copy, fuck no. I remember when people didn't even think twice about making a cassette copy for a friend. Of course the "industry" hated that, they even tried to get a "tax" on blank tapes to cover the "losses" they were suffering. What hogwash! The record companies seem to be doing fine! Ebay prices will disappear or come down if people stop buying them, just like tickets for sporting events (which sports fan seem to believe are way out of whack). Remember when FM first took off and stations would play a perfect album side, even told you when to start your tape. I'm sorry if the record industry makes a product that is easy to copy. Why didn't they just keep producing records? You couldn't copy them as easily as cd. Because they wanted to squeeze out the free music of radio, cd's people would buy more of because you could take them in your car. Did the industry ever return money for those shit 8 tracks that they sold? Or even the shit cassettes they sold? Those store bought tapes NEVER lasted long, but a good maxell made at home lasted forever? I still have cassettes I made from 1980 that play just fine. But the few store bought ones I got the cases always warped in the heat.I think I can most assuredly say that if you could shove a new caddy into a port of the computer and have it shit out a new caddy, everyone would have a new caddy and be saying fuck GM. (probably a lot of people already saying that) You don't see anyone making "illegal" copies of books and you could zerox a whole book. I'm surprise the corporate lawyers haven't tried to shut down public libraries, since they allow people to listen, read and view all copyright material without paying any fee to the owner of the copy right material. There was a point when Mickey Mouse was about to enter the public domain and Disney just couldn't let that happen, so they had congressman Sony Bono push thru a revision of the copyright laws that allowed them to keep the copyright. (see - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_Term_Extension_Act ) Technically if you owned a bar, you couldn't play cd's you own there without a fee being paid to industry. CD's YOU OWN! Can you imagine if you bought a repair guide for a car you owned and you got a second car of the same make and being told you couldn't use that manual to fix the second car, that the use of the manual was only for the first car. You have that same thing with software you buy, you buy the package but can't use it where ever you want, only once (maybe 3 times for some) Sorry I've rambled a bit, but corporations piss me off. They want risk socialize and profits privatized. They want to be citizens with no one responsible for jail time. Fuck them! Record profits and the world still fights for crumbs. On the illegal front, I get a chuckle out of this. I thought it was illegal to bring "drugs" into shows or buy and sell them. Oh, I forgot nobody who went to dead shows did drugs. Like nobody in England watches Doctor Who. The show has been on for 50 years and nobody admits they watch it! Just like back in the .net days, nobody on net.dead did drugs! I must have always got seated next to the same other 2 people who did :-) Once again sorry for the excessive rambling.

Just to be clear...

I am fully supportive of a re-release of the FW69 box. The whole reason I have the info that I have is that (being the anal retentive completist that I am) I emailed David Lemieux to ask why in the hell the box set hadn't been reissued. Any deadhead that has looked at eBay in the last 5 years can see that this box is in absurdly high demand. I hate the idea of limited releases and find it absurd that they would limit anything. The only thing that does is drive up the price on secondary markets (just look at the 30 trips box on eBay).

30 Trips By The Numbers

So in anticipation for this release I've put together some tables in my spare time (at work, don't tell the boss!) with some stats about 30 Trips strictly from the included show listing, date range, and a little help from Wikipedia. Obviously the set lists may not be 100% but I did my best. Keaks2000...not sure if you're wondering what Deadbase is or just asking about Deadbase 50. If it's the former, well it's a thick damn book full of set lists for the Grateful Dead, Jerry bands, Bob Bands...and I guess now Phil bands too. It had stats and references galore and lots of reviews and special features on all things GD. It's basically the closest thing to a Deadhead Bible. Many are not lucky enough to have the old copies (I have vol 7 & 10). With the old copies being out of print, the price on the open market these days is crazy...particularly for the later, more complete (post 1995) copies. The 50th anniversary edition should have plenty of updates, particularly on the 60's era set lists and some other new stuff as well. Not sold out yet.. Yet, not surprised

I've heard a lot of people on this thread say they are surprised this hasn't sold out yet, or that the lack of fast sell out is probably disappointing to Rhino/Dead.net. I'm not at all surprised, and I'm sure that Rhino/DL are not surprised either. They are offering free shipping for pre-sales. This says two things. 1. They want to encourage presales, and 2. They expect to charge for some of the purchased boxes. I don't think this will sell out before it ships, or if it does, it will just be a few days before shipping. That said, I already ordered my box and I'm marking the days off the calendar like a man in prison.

Just thought I'd throw out there - of course I'm ready for this box to ship - but wouldn't it be nice if Rhino re-released a bunch of Robert Hunter albums in a box? Or even a nice 2 CD compilation? All his stuff is out of print and I know there are some of us out here who would jump on such an offering.

updates on 30 Trips

So, we've had 4 listening parties, counting the Days Between one, and no peeks at the box or any other materials. When do we get more info, some looks at what we're getting? Don't want to be a complainer, but we're eagerly anticipating the arrival in a month and 4 days of a behemoth we've spent a lot of money on. I wanna know if I'll conceivably be able to hide this damn thing when it comes if need be. :)

Let the Music Play

All this deadbase talk has got me jonesin' to get back to the music. Stats, setlists, etc. are fine, but its the music that gets my blood flowing. Call me a purist.. and I'm not Jerry centric (ok, I lied), but when the band is on, and someone hit record and they put out the Box Set to Rule All Box Sets, and its going to ship in two weeks.. I care more for what was played than what was written. Was anyone at these shows? Augusta? San Diego Sports Arena, Riverbend, Oxford Plains? More likely than not, yes.. and our friends were there with their gf's/bf's and they're married w/ kids now, I bet there was a freak or two that turned out to be a.ok. There were some life changing moments that occurred at these shows. I know it. Time to spill your beans people, don't worry, your boss doesn't visit this site. Lets hear it.

As It Draws Nearer..

Yeah, I initially had a lot of guilt and worry about spending the money for this. That is subsiding and now I am starting to just get really excited about this thing and listening to all of those shows. My current Dick's Picks/Road Trips/Dave's Picks selections don't cover a good deal of these years. I hope the final package, which we've seen practically nothing of, is just the most beautiful earthly possession ever.

Deadbase 50

I was all set to order this and was excited. I've yet to own any Deabase volume. However a review on Amazon states that all of the updated material is in a large section at the beginning of the book and not integrated into the previous text. Therefore, if you are looking up a particular show you have to look in two different sections to get all the info. That seems like a poor choice. EDIT: Kayak Guy has shown me the light (above). Not a poor choice at all. Just the way it is. Looking forward to writing all over this thing.

Deadbase 50

Some people seem confused and think this is a new version of Deadbase, which would be Deadbase XII, it's not. Deadbase 50 is a reprint of Deadbase XI expanded with new updates and feature sections. The original Deadbase XI was done on proprietary mac software in the mid 1990's and unable to be imported into a new database, so instead of redoing the years of data entry from scratch to create a new Deadbase, they did the updates in a different program. That's the problem with printed versions of databases, they can't be updated on the fly and why this reprint is more for people that missed out on DB XI or people like me that want a Deadbase for my digital GD as the other ones are all annotated based on my analog collection.

Back to school

The wife is taking the kids out shopping for school clothes & supplies, now the wife is okay, I'm okay however just one look the girls' faces & you'd think the world is coming to an end TODAY!!! Oh yes the dreaded thought that uh oh summer's over & we got the 'we didn't do anything all summer" speech well little do they know that the final week of August & the first week of September we are going to the Pocono Mountains in August then down to Wildwood, N.J. in September. As the wife leaves for Kenya on September 15th, our young one starts Kindergarten on September 14th, the wife will not MISS OUT on that event as she gets in a good cry as the kid heads off to school. When our 9 year old started school the wife cried so much you'd think she was heading off to war, I expect the same reaction with our 4 year old who turns 5 August 30th. So the wife will be out & as usual she hands me a "honey do" list it's not much but the things on the list require a bit of "heavy" work, the most important thing on the list is to find out why the dishwasher leaks, & she wants me to paint an accent wall in our bedroom & move the furniture in our older kids room as the wife is trying create more floor space for her, the wife has all these crazy "ideas" that she gets from reading to many home decorating magazines for some reason they NEVER come out the way she planned so then I have to move everything back to it's original position. As I'm doing various chores around the house I MUST choose proper listening material, I'm feeling kind of Road Trippy today so I'm going to start with Volume1 No.1 Fall '79 then the Wall Of Sound from Summer '74 then Denver '73 & finish off with Valentines '68 all in all it will be a good day to get things done around here as the wife & the kids are out. I bet I have an easier day then the wife will as she has to deal with 2 VERY unhappy campers, all I have to deal with is a small list to make a wife very happy. Well time to get to work. DeadBase 50

Has landed in Philly, here goes a quick rundownIt's actually "2 books" in one. The first 400 pages covers "new" material, the section titled "More Words" pages 14-23 cover the origins of DeadBase including a story by Rob Eaton titled the "Betty Tape Story" also most noteworthy are pages 25-67 which cover DeadBase updates. AFTER page 400 it's an exact reprint of DeadBase XI FTW is on page 384 & includes BOTH Santa Clara & Chicago. It'll make a beautiful coffee table book as it's quite thick & hard covered. In fact I don't think the wife will mind putting this one on the coffee table. Now back to work I have to pull out the dishwasher, what fun that is going to be. I MUST resist the temptation & put it down otherwise NOTHING will get done, TRUST ME!!!! I've waited since 1999 for a "new DeadBase now it's here & I have work to do, like the saying goes " business BEFORE pleasure". Just thought you folks in Deadland would like to know. In conclusion after only spending 20 minutes with this book I've come to a conclusion that this is the BEST $89.99 I've spent in many,many years, all I can say is GET THIS BOOK NOW!!!!!! Looking to buy an old Deadbase

Anybody buying Deadbase 50 or just anybody in general looking to sell an old Deadbase? I have no idea where mine went or even which edition it was(think the cover was light purple?). Don't really care if it has anything post Jerry or not;just want the GD shows. P.M. me if ya have one to get rid of!

Old Deadbases

The reason 2 of the 3 authors reprinted the DBXI for the 50th anniversary was because of the speculative prices of the old Deadbases in the used marketplace. They could have done a better job of advertising the reprint aspect of this edition. [update the amazon description has been recently changed and the DBXI reprint aspect has been moved to the top of the description from lower in the text that you could only see if you clicked "read more", but who pays $90 for a book without reading the whole description?] Maybe calling it Deadbase XI Classic would have been a better name for it. Old Deadbases will continue to remain high in price as they were very limited printings. They are a fetish item and most have been personalized with highlighting and notes by the original owners. John Scott, who was not involved in Deadbase 50, sometimes has new copies of older versions that he sells through his Dharmarose website. Which also has the official online version of Deadbase (last updated in 2002) Try there if you are looking for a copy that doesn't have all the years from 1965-95, remember only Deadbase X and Deadbase XI have all 30 years.

30 Trips in Dead to the Core

For those of you who have Eric Wybenga's fun book "Dead to the Core" several 30-Trips shows are given write-ups. River Bend 85 has a nice long feature review. Also shorter reviews of Augusta 84, Centrum 83. I love his comments about the 10/21/83 show, one of the shows I'm most excited about. Here is an excerpt: "The opening Music Never Stopped is on par with 6/28/85--these are probably the best two Brent versions---and the whole first set is smoking, especially the Loser. The Scarlet>Fire in the second set is longer than the DP 6 version, clocking in at 35 minutes plus ..... and Sage and Spirit theme makes an appearance during Space.... A great show from a superlative spring (sic) tour." Dude. A 35 minute Scarlet>Fire? Droooooooool. EDIT - The Archive puts this Scar>Fire at something closer to 30 minutes, but still...!

Deadbase XI.5

I'm not sure if they had updated it by the time I ordered it last week, but the description on Amazon clearly says it contains a reprint of XI plus more. Mine should be coming in tomorrow. At least this will distract me until someone gives us an update on Boxzilla.

Deadbase - Vintage Dead LP

Deadbase(as well as other sources) have always attributed the 9/16/66 date to the Vintage Dead LP. However, if you listen closely at the beginning of Dancing, Bob clearly says "it's the winter of the year, but the time's still right, etc" would make no sense singing this line in mid SeptemberAlso, Jerry's playing sounds much more evolved than anything I heard from summer of 66; his playing is much closer to December/January 67. On the other hand, the songs from Historic Dead do sound like earlier 66.

HD Audio

is moving to 384/32 in a few years. So we're all going to have to upgrade our music collections again. But the sound is going to be awesome!...for our furry friends.

Deadbase Suppliment Editions

What I liked about the annual editions are the show by show analysis plus full reviews reviews. Many cool features. I've collected all 6 ('88-'93) plus DB X, which had '95 and the only way to get that particular year. DB IX had the '94 annual edition, which I never acquired but would like to. DH Taping Compendium and Deadbase

Hi forgive me for my dead ignorance. I have Deadhead Taping Compendium 1, 2 and 3. I have no Deadbase. Can someone tell me the difference, and whether it is worth it for me to get this new Deadbase? I am aware of the other bases, Jerrybase, Bobbase, and I believe these arent in Compendiums. Any advice, clarifications? Thanks nitecat

I imagine your's is a common inquiry among readers, whether posted or not. I own the 3 TC volumes and DBIX and consider them indispensable companions. However, this rather useless subjective summary aside, perhaps I can provide enough information for you to make an informed independent decision (remember, my observations regarding DB are limited by the fact that I'm only familiar with vol.9). First, TC does one thing better than DB and that's sheer number of recorded shows reviewed. For example, I'll reference 1978, which has understandably garnered a lot of attention lately: DB provides reviews for only about 22 shows over 4-5 pages, whereas TC addresses about 84 shows across 90-odd pages - including 5+ pages devoted to 12/31 (Closing of Winterland) and 25 pages to the Egypt shows. Otherwise, DB is populated with the following wealth of unique information: 1. Comprehensive set lists regardless of whether the show is reviewed, to include venue, show date & day of week with encores marked, guests listed, and historical vagaries noted (i.e., 6/28/91: "Santana opened - 'Dark Star' tease just before last verse of 'Wharf Rat'") 2. Songs played, to include (1) total number of times historically; (2) total number of times played per year; (3) first and last date played; (4) song author and other recording artists by identity/release title/date; and, most impressively, (5) every time played by date, set, number of shows since last iteration, and identification of the preceding and subsequent songs (i.e., "Ain't No Lie": Acoustic set; 1231 shows preceded its debut in 9/80, and it was played between JackaRoe and Ripple). 3. Places played, listed alphabetically by State, City, and Venues with dates cited (i.e., Lake Tahoe (8 shows), broken down by King's Beach Bowl (7 shows (with dates)) and the American Legion Hall (8/19/67)). 4. Venue Seating Charts and Capacities 5. Polls: both personal (age/state of residency/all time favourite venues, years, individual performances/"tape preferences" (i.e., Maxell, TDK, Sony !!!)) and per year (i.e., in vol. 9, polling of money spent touring/favourite shows, venues, new songs/ and a lot of other Qs specifically addressing '94). 6. Garcia Base, 40 pages, to include dates, venues, and setlists for all 24 permutations of his performing side projects (even those he didn't "lead", such as OITW and the Keith & Donna Band). 7. "Odds & Ends" - Miscellany from a short band chronology; to members' birthdays; number of shows performed on each day of the week, month, and season; most played and single stand venues; maximum lapses between song performances (by number of interim shows); and much more. 8. Comprehensive guest list organized chronologically 9. Dark Star Map (longitudinal sampling of 50+ DS versions from each year played broken down on a bar graph by component parts, such as "verse", "jam", and "space") 10. Anagrams (strangely compelling: i.e., Bruce Hornsby = Byron's cherub (?!)) 11. Set and Song Timings (i.e., a complete listing for 1994 only in vol.9) 12. Show lengths by total time, first & second set, and pre & post drumz (1994 only) 13. Ticket sales and gross revenue per venue (1994) 14. Physical tour maps (1994), designated by vectors across a map of the states for each season, in addition to the same map indicating number of shows played by state. 15. Band/Crowd/Venue/Show pictures (1994/20 pages (glossy)) 16. Ticket pictures for each show (1994 (glossy)) I'd like to think that each of the features unique to 1994 for vol.9 will be duplicated for other years in DB50. At the least, I would imagine significant commonalities in format regardless as to how the old database and new information is divided - but those who've already received their copy can be more helpful here. peace, K

The Deadhead's Taping Addendum, basically "Volume 4" of the Deadhead's Taping Compendium a very limited press run. I check frequently in the secondary market to see if one is available for sale, patience I must have patience as one will come my way.....someday To:TPTB Don't you think it's about time we get a video of what Boxzilla (30 Trips) contains? We all would like to know how is show each going to be packaged & perhaps a glimpse of the 288 page book. I think we out here in Deadland just want a little "taste" of what's to come. Let's make it happen. Yes it's Sunday night & Monday morning rolls around real fast let me just wish everyone an EZ MONDAY MORNING, Peace, Deadland!!!!!!!

Tapers Addendum

I like the Addendium better than the 1st 3 Compendiums, it has more early shows and better source recordings to review. Yes there are really 4 Compendiums and the 4th one is the best of the series. Both series are very dated and have been replaced by the internet for real usefulness. The Compendiums have been replaced by LMA and you can stream the show while reading the reviews of it and add your own review at the end. Really, how cool is that? Deadbase has been replaced by etree with the MD5 checksum verification tool to match the recording to the setlist and info for the exact version you have, again pretty cool stuff. Set lists are everywhere now, even right here on dead.net with the my shows tab if you are logged in. Both book series are anachronisms that are speculative in price for original copies in the used marketplace or ebay for people that want the books. Each series does have some original content and essays that are unique to the books, but the set list info and reviews are out of date or incomplete, and they are the bulk of both series. The Compendiums and the new Deadbase 50 have publishers, so there are chances of reprints, the original annual Deadbases were self published by the authors and very limited printings until DB XI because they didn't want leftover when the new edition was ready. DBXI being the "final" deadbase probably had a larger run and maybe even a reprinting back in the late 1990's, but for the last 15 years it has been easier to get a copy of DBX than the DBXI. In the 1980's Deadbase was advertised in Relix and by the time my order for Deadbase was placed they were already on Deadbase II, so that was what i got in the mail. The question is do you really want a $90 book full of information from the late 1990's, when you can find all the updated and corrected info online for free? For me the answer is easy, yes i want the book, i want to highlight my collection in as many of the different lists as possible, so i can figure out what i'm still missing.

30 Trips Arrival

Sept. 18 - '30 Trips Around The Sun' ships Sept. 24-26 - The Pope visits Philadelphia The Pope's visit is touted as "The World Meeting Of Families" I'm touting 'Boxzilla' as "Meeting Up With The World's Dead Shows" So the question is: Will the Pope's visit delay 'Boxzilla' arriving at the Jersey Shore? I'm in the Wildwood/Cape May area or as I think of it "Hurricane Country". Inquiring Deadminds want to know (or are Deadprayers in order?).

30 Trips Around the Sun & other musings

On August 5th I put a list of the amount of discs that I think each show will have in 30 Trips here on dead.net using the following format.... 1966 1 1967 1 1968 1 and so on & so on well it appears my calculations are ALL wrong, as DB 50 in the updates section has confirmed that the Dead played 2 sets on 3/18/71 so my 2 CD count is wrong so the only way I can figure it out to be 80 discs is to add 1 disc to 3/18/71 & and take one from 2/21/95, I'm going to refigure my figures & put an updated list here on dead.net soon, ISN'T THIS FUN!!!!!! Also regarding 30 Trips I think the "sleeper" show is going to be 5/14/78. 2/6/79, Why is it that I want to hear this show so bad, is it because I can't as DB 50 states no tape exists of this show, even though it's a well known fact that early 1979 recordings are spotty at best as no complete show SBD's exist. Only the "stronger" shows i.e., 1/10 2nd set, 1/15 2nd set & 1/20, partial 2nd set are SBD's & even those recordings are fair to middling at best. Also with all of the in fighting going on between Donna & Keith the band's playing suffered. Don't ask me why but I hope a SBD of 1/21 surfaces someday just because of the odd venue & from what I can hear from the single AUD recording on the Archive the Terrapin>Playin sounds real good. Is Jon Mayer that good? Did anyone notice that 10/31 & 11/1 have indeed SOLD OUT? And WITHOUT Phil. In closing I notice that the Taper's Section features 5/26/77? As usual a very good choice, as you can NEVER go wrong with anything from May 1977 this as well as 5/18/77 are both release worthy perhaps for a 2 show mini box set. Wouldn't that make a delightful Christmas gift? HAPPY MONDAY, DEADLAND!!!!!!!

UPS Half-Ass Delivery

I've commented on this before, but since I've just ordered RT 1V2.... I ordered with 2 day delivery, ha what a joke. This UPS Mail Innovations sucks. First they don't deliver it, they bring it to a post office location for the post office to deliver.
