its too early for that kinda talk (it it very true however) It's gonna be like the day after christmas depression times a million! No NO NO NOOOOO not there yet...not looking forward to it either...cant we make it last forever? Anyway Arabella's got some interstellar-gator skin boots And a helter skelter 'round her little finger and I ride it endlessly She's got a Barbarella silver swimsuit And when she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams My days end best when this sunset gets itself Behind that little lady sitting on the passenger side It's much less picturesque without her catching the light The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes As Arabella As Arabella Just might have tapped into your mind and soul You can't be sure Arabella's got a 70's head But she's a modern lover It's an exploration, she's made of outer space And her lips are like the galaxy's edge And her kiss the colour of a constellation falling into place My days end best when this sunset gets itself Behind that little lady sitting on the passenger side It's much less picturesque without her catching the light The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes As Arabella As Arabella Just might have tapped into your mind and soul You can't be sure That's magic in a cheetah print coat Just a slip underneath it I hope Asking if I can have one of those Organic cigarettes that she smokes Wraps her lips round the Mexican coke Makes you wish that you were the bottle Takes a sip of your soul and it sounds like… Just might have tapped into your mind and soul You can't be sure

I had to listen to that one...makes me giggle I come from St. Louis via a small town in cental Illinois. I've been collecting tunes in my head all my life. I used to sleep with a classic rock radio station on when I was in elementary school. Every time I leave You say you won't be there. And you're always there. Every time I cry your name at night, you pull close and say it's alright. I look in your eyes, just like the rain. Washing me, rain wash over me. Touching your face, I feel the heat of your heartbeat echo in my head like a scream. What you do to me! Waited so long I can't wait another day without you. Jet City Woman. It's a long way, home to my Jet City Woman. I see her face everywhere, can't get her out of my mind. Whenever I'm alone I'm thinking, there's a part missing from my life. Wonder where I'd be without your love holding me together now I'm watching the time tick, tick away. Face grows longer every day. Fortunes are lost on the women I've seen but without you I can't breathe! You're the air to me! Waited so long, I'm all alone thinking about you. Jet City Woman. Got to find my way home to her. Jet City Woman. I see her face everywhere I look! Jet City Woman. Just a thousand miles and I'll be there Jet City Woman, to make the clouds go away. Time for some blue sky! Waited so long now the plane's delayed and hour, reminds me of all our days apart. Hold on, just a little longer. Jet City Woman. Wonder where I'd be, you're the air to me. Jet City Woman. Eyes like the rain, rain down on me. Jet City Woman. No more nights alone I'm almost home now. Jet City Woman. Close my eyes, I'm there in my Jet City.

If you're down in Acuna and you ain't up to being alonedon't spend all your money on just any honey that's grown. Go find the Mexican blackbird and send all your troubles back home. They all call her her "puta" 'cause no one really knows her name. She works the cantina, dancin' and a-lovin's her trade. Her mama was Mez'can and her daddy was the ace of spades. Oh, let's drive that old Chrysler down to Mexico, boy. Said, keep your hands on the wheel there. Oh, it sure is fine, ain't it? Now, ya got it! Hand me another one of them brews from back there. Oh, this is gonna be so good. Mm, she's hot as a pepper but smooth as a Mexican brew. So head for the border and put in an order or two. The wings of the blackbird will spread like an eagle for you. Oh, one more time, can you roll me another Bull Durham, please? Can't you do it with one hand, boy? your amigo....Babalooie! Damn where did this briver come from? Grinnin ear to ear here, just me n Beyoncé Shock, awe and man you got street cred for a country girl.... I repeat...I am not worthy!

Celebration kicks off at 1630 hours I got 5 on it... plus My mother went away for a month-long trip Her and some friends on an ocean-liner ship She made a big mistake by leaving me home I had to roam so I picked up the phone Dialed Ali up to see what was going down Told him I pick him up so we could drive around Took the Dodge Dart, a '74 My mother left a yard but I needed one more Shaheed had me covered with a hundred greenbacks So we left Brooklyn and we made big tracks drove down the Belt, got on the Conduit Came to a toll, we paid and went through it Had no destination, we was on a quest Ali laid in the back so he could get rest Drove down the road for two-days-and-a-half The sun had just risen on a dusty path Just then a figure had caught my eye A man with a sombrero who was four feet high I pulled over to ask were we was at His index finger he tipped up his hat "El Segundo," he said, "my name is Pedro If you need directions, I'll tell you pronto" Needed civilization, some sort of reservation He said a mile south, there's a fast food station Thanks, senor, as I start up the motor Ali said, "Damn, Tip, why you drive so far for?" (Well describe to me what the wallet looks like) Anyway a gas station we passed We got gas and went on to get grub It was a nice little pub in the middle of nowhere Anywhere would have been better I ordered enchiladas and I ate 'em Ali had the fruit punch When we finished we thought for ways to get back I had a hunch Ali said, "Pay for lunch" So I did it Pulled out the wallet and I saw this wicked beautiful lady She was a waitress there Put the wallet down and stared and stared To put me back into reality, here's Shaheed: "Yo, Tip, man, you got what you need?" I checked for keys and started to step What do you know, my wallet I forget Yo, it was a brown wallet, it had props numbers Had my jimmy hats I got to get it man Lord, have mercy The heat got hotter, Ali stars to curse me I fell bad but he makes me feel badder Chit-chit-chatter, car stars to scatter Breaking on out, we was Northeast bound Jettin' on down at the seepd of sound Three days coming and three more going We get back and there was no slack 490 Madison, we're here, Sha He said, "All right, Tip, see you tomorrow" Thinking about the past week, the last week Hands go in my pocket, I can't speak Hopped in the car and torpe'ed to the shack Of Shaheed, "We gotta go back" when he said "Why?" I said, "We gotta go 'Cause I left my wallet in El Segundo" Yeah, I left my wallet in El Segundo Left my wallet in El Segundo Left my wallet in El Segundo I gotta get, I got-got ta get it

Something pretty close to real cowboys still exist in the very rual areas of the country...and the wild west is still in the hearts of most midwesterners...me included An old cowboy went ridin out one dark and windy day Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw Plowin through the ragid skies and up a cloudy draw Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky For he saw the riders comin hard and he heard their mournful cries Yippie i ohhh ohh ohh Yippie i aye ye ye Ghost riders in the sky Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred Their shirts all soaked with sweat He's ridin hard to catch that herd But he aint caught em yet Cause they got to ride forever in that range up in the sky On horses snortin fire as they ride on hear their cries As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name 'if you wanna save your soul from hell a-ridin on our range Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride Tryin to catch the devil's herd across these endless skies Yippie i ohhh oh oh Yippie i aye ye ye Ghost riders in the sky Ghost riders in the sky Ghost riders in the sky

Are there any morereal cowboys Left out in these hills? Will the fire hit the iron One more time? And will one more dusty pick-up Coming rolling down the road With a load of feed before the sun gets high? Well, I hope that working cowboy never dies. Not the one that's snortin' cocaine When the honky-tonk's all closed But the one that prays for more rain Heaven knows That the good feed brings the money And the money buys the clothes Not the diamond sequins shining on TV But the kind the working cowboy really needs. Are there any more country families Still working hand in hand Trying hard to stay together And make a stand? While the rows and rows of houses Come creepin' up on the land Where the cattle graze and an old grey barn still stands Are there any more real cowboys in this land? Are there any more real cowboys in this land?

Damn it Waylon and Willie...they all listened. Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold And they'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levis And each night begins a new day And if you don't understand him and he don't die young He'll probably just ride away Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms, clear mountain mornings Little warm puppies and children, girls of the night And them that don't know him won't like him and them that do Sometimes won't know how to take him He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him Do things to make you think he's right Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys They'll never stay home and they're always alone Even with someone they love Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

it's been real, its been fun...it's been REAL FUN! Makes me want to go home and put my cowboy boots on. Matt and I watch westerns every Sunday without fail. I ain't an educated man As all you Fleet Street preachers know, It's just the simple things in life Get my motor running, ready to go If I can make you smile I will raise my glass, An' if you don't like it Then, baby, you can kiss my ass! You can tell me it's wrong, But, I love wine, women an' song Give me a good time woman, An' a love potion bottle of booze 'Cos I got a juke box heart Full of honky tonk rhythm an' blues You better lock up your daughter, your sister too, If get in my way, I'm gonna rock an' roll over you, Ain't nothing you can do You can tell it's wrong, But I love wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, talking 'bout Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long Wine, women an' song, Give me a rock an' roll band With a mean an' dirty blues guitar, Take me to a dance hall palace With a twenty four hour bar Then you better lock up your daughter, your sister too, If you get in my way, I'm gonna rock an' roll over you, Ain't nothing you can do You can tell me it's wrong, But I love wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, talking 'bout Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long, Wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song, Wine, women an' song You get what you can But, don't take too long, Wine, women an' song Wine, women an' song Take it easy...Happy Trails!

Can you believe it's almost September? The kids are all back at school...summer is singing it's swansong. Nobody on the road Nobody on the beach I feel it in the air The summer's out of reach Empty lake, empty streets The sun goes down alone I'm driving by your house Though I know you're not home But I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone I never will forget those nights I wonder if it was a dream Remember how you made me crazy? Remember how I made you scream Now I don't understand what happened to our love But babe, I'm gonna get you back I'm gonna show you what I'm made of I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun I see you walking real slow and you're smilin' at everyone I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back" I thought I knew what love was What did I know? Those days are gone forever I should just let them go but- I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone Next week is the Deadhead baseball night...and then Labor Day : }

For our final selection here on KDED... We bring you one fine Dead tune... Went to see the captain, strangest I could find, Laid my proposition down, laid it on the line. I won't slave for beggar's pay, likewise gold and jewels, But I would slave to learn the way to sink your ship of fools. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. Saw your first ship sink and drown, from rockin' of the boat, And all that could not sink or swim was just left there to float. I won't leave you drifting down, but woh it makes me wild, With thirty years upon my head to have you call me child. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. The bottles stand as empty, as they were filled before. Time there was and plenty, but from that cup no more. Though I could not caution all, I still might warn a few: Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools. Ship of fools on a cruel sea, ship of fools sail away from me. It was later than I thought, when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. It was later than I thought when I first believed you, Now I cannot share your laughter, ship of fools. Peace

Welp, it's Friday guys, and we can go this way or that way... Tony and all you brothers and sisters in Florida, batten down the hatches and roll up the winders...somethings blowing in... Regarding music and lyrics and singing, oh my, it is nice to see a song here once and awhile...but like any room, if the music is too loud or too much, it stifles conversation. For a fact I don't post sometimes because I know in an hour or so any post might be glanced at but then would be buried by a whole slew of cut and paste lyrics...lyrics...lyrics...and while it's fun to see and read the tête-à-tête between our dus brivers, sometimes the passengers wanna talk too... So let's maybe talk...turn off the TV and radio and share experiences... did I ever tell you about the last unofficial auto garage mechanic on Route 66? Under a huge spreading oak tree with parts covered in dust and rust from the halcyon days gone by....this family still plys their trade. You can get there by turning off the interstate outside of Barstow, finding the old pavement and driving towards the sunset till you see that magestic tree looming up on the faceless horizon... Twas a simpler life they say, roaring down the Route 66 highway ribbon crossing the continent in those days of our youth. And here we have a family's enterprize...started by grandpa and now run by the great grandkids. We have the car towed in, we greet the various family members and dogs and cats, and Grandma calls out to Johnny...come help these folks... We find a young-un, the simple garage mechanic, willing to sweat all day to fix a split rim tire rim with brake shoes welded from heat....all day slaving away in the sun, and at the end? "That'll be ten bucks." To top it off, the Matriarch Grandmother invited us in for apple pie and ice cream while we waited. True story, Anne Marie can attest... That's my Friday tale to share, And you? What's your story?

Hey Geo, good morning and thanks for the story. There are lots of those mechanics where I come from. And many of them have repaired my cars. Today, I have no time for story tellin but you folks that can spin a good yarn go right ahead. Bein' a youngster...I dont have lots of Dead stories to tell or road stories for that matter... That's why I speak through lyrics oftentimes, because the song says it best. And the music, hopefully we can all relate to. Have a great day and an even better weekend! Peace

I agree, good jazz can not be beat....this festival is a 2 day ordeal in Lewiston NY right on the water, vendors, bring folding chairs and set up in front of any of 5 stages.....a guy I haven't seen 10 years plays piano in a jazz trio with his girlfriend on vocals....really want to see him play.....he grew up in da Buff with his contemporaries at the time SpyroGyra...they went separate directions, he more traditional and be bop ragtime and SpyroGyra became millionaires....oh well..... Whether you fly by the seat of your pants or skin of your teeth.....be sure to flap them wings.... Into the air, junior Birdman/woman.....

...doen't have that bluesy feel to it...much prefer bus station...and oh those fumes...yum yum. Tried to smuggle my jet black cat named Casper on a Grayhound bus, in Albuquerque back in '75 or so, after abandoning my pickup truck forty miles west of that fine town, broke down with a torn off u-joint in an enclosed drive line. When that happens going 65 miles an hour, it turns the rear-end brass gears into mush... Sold the truck for 50 bucks, put all my stuff by the side of the road, middle of the desert, three days before Christmas, going home to 'bama to visit my brother who was in jail...kitty cat under my arm, thumb stuck out...and a miracle occurred. Got a ride from a nice couple right to the station. Bought a one-way ticket on ba dus for 45 bucks, tried to board, Casper meowed hi to the briver and he said..."What's that?" I said my cat, he said not on my bus. I said ok, turned, and there is the elderly couple standing there. They said, we'll take you to a kennel. They did, and took me back, I baorded, off we went, got to 'Bama, visited said brother and he said need a car? Take mnine, I wonm't need it. Two weeks later I pick up my cat in the kennel and away I go to the safety of the mnountains in CA and the GD... Always liked dus stations....and elderly couples with hearts of gold....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

bunt note...and the rest of the story... Brother had found a higher power than drugs (not hard) called Jesus, got busted right afterwards for transgressions, was paroled to a Christian outreach called Teen Challenge... got his head on right, cleaned up his life, became an international missionary then evangelist, preached to millions, including the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola from 1995 - 2000 (look it up) and started a church in DFW, which is why I moved here... look up stevehill ministries dot com if you wanna read about an awesome life. RIP, Steve...we lost him last year after a 5 year battle with cancer....and the last years I was blessed to be by his side. Thanks for the memories, and the car, Steve. You rocked it big time. Now, about that rock and roll band and page two...and all that Jazz...can I fly with you guys?

Had a cat in my first apartment illegally, kept litter box in bath tub.....name was Oscar....a fine looking Maine Coon.....well when it was time to find a house.....I let my landlord Mr. Lang know and he said he would show place on a few minutes notice to rent it out after I left, sure enough on this hot August Saturday afternoon he said he'd be over in a minute....scrambling I moved the litter box, put it under my bed and threw Oscar out the bathroom window ( first floor) so he landed on his feet and Mr. Lang was with his potential tenants at the front door, the only door..... Well he starts showing the place, btw it was flea infested....used to walk around in white knee high athletic socks, not for fashion but to avoid getting bitten and pick them off my socks and drown them....one flea at a time. So this couple comes in, in flip flops.....second they hit the carpet they are getting eaten alive, they start scratching.....and mortified as they turn to leave, Oscar, claws and all jumps on the living room screen....six feet up and is clinging on for dear life and meowing up a storm, as he scrambles he begins to rip the screen from his weight...he was a big boy as the screen shreds he, jumps through it into the room, sits at my feet and jumps up into my arms. Chagrined I look at my landlord, he throws me $5, said go buy yourself a flea bomb, and the screen repair is coming out of your security deposit....then turns to leave looks at me and winks, says nice cat.....next time just let the cat stay, less chaos. I miss Oscar.....

Great story! I love kitties! I have three right now and one is a Maine Coon! His name is Xander. He is large as well, bigger than a small dog. His dad is a show cat named Wilson Pickett. His momma is named Mustang Sally. His daddy's head is the size of a cantelope...He has a Turkish Van pattern which is rare in a Coon so he is all white with black ears and tail and one black spot. He looks like a cat cow. About 16 lbs... My newest kitty is Hawkeye and he came from the woods. He grew up outdoors and lost a claw on his front paw somehow. He is the sweetest little boy ever! He is red and white, well more of a rust color. And Stoli, my 12 year old kitty who was born to my other cat Bumble in my closet in one of the hottest summers in STL. Bumble clawed her way out of the bathroom screen to get out while she was in heat. She was gone for 3 days and I didn't think I'd ever see her again. She came home filthy with 4 alley cats chasing her... needless to say she had gotten knocked up...Bumble went with my ex and Stoli still remains... Kitty Stories.

I have so many cat o nine tales to tell.... someday I will share the full story when Rudy a morbidly obese mentally challenged tabby with an ass the size of JLO got bit in the ass by our neighbors dog, Dinky Dog precisely, now who in hell names their pooch Dinky? And gives it a last name, Dog.....well it was the guy who wore dresses and had a sister who sang opera in their kitchen every Sunday.....gained a new appreciation of the genre..... Any-who the story gets good when I try to save a buck and take out the stitches he needed to hold the drain used to clear his abcess put in by the emergency vet clinic....cost more than a Chicago FTW ticket.... So I did it by myself with a little help from Elaine....with they aid of some sample benzodiazepines given to me by a drug rep. In the hospital.....I never knew Ativan makes cats hallucinate, become psychotic .....they really lose their shit...he ran away from me at full speed into a basement wall....got knocked unconscious, I get the stitches out.... Still have the scars on my forearms to prove it....but I saved $60.....

It was worth the memory....but if I had to do it all over again, I would have taken the Ativan..... Clarification....it's not a new bus, we just added an upper level..... So it's easy to transition......

I've been at this a long time and have come to realize that our common bond may be the Dead, at least on a superficial level. I believe our camaraderie and affinity goes much deeper. it is the eclectic universal love of music, of all types. the acceptance of each other's tastes and the therapeutic value that music brings to our lives.....some of us are lyric freaks....some melody, some rhythm. Some just can't define it....and that's ok.... Since March, when this group jelled thanks to the efforts of a Mr.Tony Fonts (applause) there are times randomly during an average day that I marvel at what we were, what we are and what we will become.... The one burning question I had from day one and still have is the following... for those of you that still read this drivel...and thank you for that.... If you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 recordings would you bring along, if that is all you would have until your eternal dirt nap. To be fair, let's exclude greatest hits albums, compilations and bootlegs.....limit it to commercial studio and live recordings...my main reason for asking, is I want to know what magic I've been missing out on....life is short and I remain on a musical mission....and I need your help. I don't expect a quick response, as I have just begun to think about this myself....and my OCD at times, won't let me commit.... We don't need lyrics here, just albums....in no particular order....5 each....and most importantly why you chose them....I don't care, but you should....you don't need to post the reasons, but they should resonate with your selections..... Thanks for your time and consideration.... If you agree to participate, respond with the title Desert Island Selection...to keep things simple...and organized..... Maybe Tony can do a spreadsheet ;-) Let there be songs to fill the air....

This really is a tall order....let's hope I'm not forced into the deserted island situation but here goes, in no particular ranked order: 1. Grateful Dead - American Beauty 2. Yes - The Yes Album 3. Allman Brothers - An Evening With... 4. The Beatles - Abbey Road 5. Bruce Springsteen - Hammersmith Odeon, London '75

Thank you T...... Nice choices....but....why? The why is the key to this exercise......we all love certain music...what is it in our souls that makes us choose the Yes Album over Fragile or Tales or Relayer or Close to the Edge.....or Tormato for chrissakes... That's just an example....for me it's where I was when I heard a certain album, or more importantly....who I was with....that changed my musical life forever.....memories and experiences embed certain music more deeply in our brains than others....it's not just the music, it's the memories and feelings music brings.... Just think on it....on a deep meditative level you will know.... Gonna take some time to think mine out, want it to be just exactly perfect ;-)
