All opinions expressed are my own
Heynow-Instead of a review, here are my opinions and random thoughts after roadtripping back from that Denver Dead show. Although I loved hearing Crazy Fingers and several of the acoustic set (MAMU, Weight, etc), yet I left not feeling quite satisfied. The Dead had me going in, but it is like going to a restaurant that you love and they don't have the dish you want and the 'special' that get substituted, just does not hit the spot. IMO, the Dead saved the 'beef' for the coastal shows (apology to you vegetarians), no real song that was a 'jam vehicle' ala Other One or Eyes (which I desired) to link and pull the whole show around it. More disparate songs that were loosely "grouped' together. It was weird to me that the segues in the first half sounded more smoothly executed than those in the second half. I have seen this before (speaking as a former 'disgruntled' midwestern deadhead who didn't get to see the show that I wanted to see) and knowing that 'my show' would then be played down the line. But actually I am not disgruntled anymore and I do truly appreciate the show that I was lucky enough to witness. More review, Phil is the Maestro there. Bobby is the eccentric whimsical who struggles at times, (NOT with his exquisite shimmering rhythm chops..er... but what about those mutton chops! ;o}), Warren was great both on vocals (Easy Wind & China Doll!) and his lead & slide guitar work, he is such a talent and needs to propel the boys along with him. Mickey and Billy were simply tremendous and amazingly, I wish there would have been more drums that night (on Billy's birthday no less) at least King Solomon's Marbles gave them a chance to stretch the drumming a bit. Chimenti is very versatile but he has potential to be more of a force with the band. There were times when his keys could have hammered the boys ahead, to shake them a bit, like some of the keyboardists of old. At times I wondered if they all could hear each other as well, to cue off of, hint another tune, etc. I did hear many 'teases' and wondered several times if the band did as well. That said, these guys rock! They just need a little more playing time to weave it together. On balance, their vocals sounded improved from show I heard on the radio on 5/2. I would like to hear Warren sing more esp. the Garcia/Hunter tunes, as Warren does nail the phrasing of those tunes much better than Bobby does AND he can remember the words (which helps ;o}). It seemed like the Dead were playing and playing well however their pace or ability to accelerate like with the GD or even the prior versions of the Dead that I have seen, were just not the same. At this point anyway. Denver was just not the 'mind-meld' that I was hoping for, or maybe it was just the song selection for me. Maybe it is I just wanted to be able to hear a Jack Straw, or Wheel or Eyes of the World or Brown Eyed Women or a fine 1/2 Step. I am old school, you know. However, I recall "one man gathers what another man spills" and consequently the coastal shows will be classics. Maybe when I give Denver another listen and get these pesky synapses to refire, I may think differently and reevaluate. That said, I learned long ago, to not attend too much to what I didn't hear. I am so happy I went and glad for what I did hear. The boys do look energized. Billy was grinning ear to ear and nodding enthusiastically to Phil and Bobby at the conclusion of their acoustic take of Me & My Uncle. That was a treat seeing them like that and reminded me of 'the old daze'. I am spoiled rotten by the wonderful shows that I was lucky enough to attend, and often I am an incurable critic/cynic, so I do have to give myself a reality check (or my wife or friends will.) This band will only get better and I wish I was able to take in a couple more shows from this tour to witness it happening. BUT I am so excited that Heads who have not seen the Grateful Dead or other versions of the Dead, will have this tour to see & be the dance. At the end Bobby pointed out to the audience and said "It was you that got us back together." If I win the lottery, I will head out to the show at the Gorge. Without any doubt. The Dead will be hitting their stride. I just wish they were meeting me at 10KLF! The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

Was amazing! Great vibes all through the Shakedown across from the DCU. The music was tight, the crowd was just a sea of positive energy. Security was at a bare minimum. I think that about sums it up :-).

From what i understand, T Gore went to Congress to urge 'Warning Labels' to be put on explicit material..she wasn't out to censor the music.... Touchy subject, but i see both sides of the coin...

I remember when Tipper was second lady and Mickey used to visit the White House to give her drumming lessons. How cool was that? And, does anyone remember her at the opening ceremony for the Atlanta Olympics when she sat by Al's side as he grooved with Mickey's performance? And, as I write this on Earth Day, more than a tip of my hat, I say hat's off, to her for giving Al the idea to create a companion book for his slide show, which ended up getting his climate message out to an even wider audience. It was great to see some Deadhead DC royalty up on that stage. I figure she was Obama's ambassador of Dead. We're everywhere. No doubt about it.

April 23, (Earth Day plus 1), tune into CBS to see The Dead sitting-in with Dave and Paul Schaefer. Pull out the Closing of Winterland video and check out the Blues Brothers gig, and see if you recognize the keyboardist.

...Yeah, The whole scene at Worc. Sun. night was sweet- My wife and I arrived real early(11:30) and found a real cool lot right next to the DCU and it was already buzzing with Tourheads setting up shop(nice) We met tons of cool people and the weather was sweet! It was my wife's first REAL Dead show and she kept sayin' "This is so cool,No wonder you always went to The Dead" Sorry to say though-She liked the show,But she was'nt really down w/the early 60's stuff they played or the long jams(Both of which I LOVED) She was like, "I liked "Uncle John's Band" and "Fire on the mountain" and "Good Lovin"... But not all the "long jamming"..In her defense though, She's used to concerts where the band plays all their "hits" every night...(BORING).. But I said "Hun, That's not what The Dead is all about...It's about exploration of music and mind, and new discoveries."......Long silence.....Weird look...Then,"Well I liked "Uncle John's Band" HaHaHa!!!! Oh well, Ya' cant win 'em all !!! :-)(-: Next Stop-RATDOG Hampton Beach This July...This time maybe she'll GET SHOWN THE LIGHT........P.S. Thank-you D&K for a wonderful time in Worcester....It TRULY was magical..............Peace. ♪♪♪♪:-)

Same lot we were at, we stayed at the Hilton so we had a clear view before we even headed down. We probably crossed paths several times. We are going to see Bob Weir-RatDog at the Festival Up North in Aug. I am trying to get a feel on the scene there though. So many friggin rules listed on their website. I am wondering if it is just a CYA situation or if they are really that strict.

Haa thats great! I had to chuckle .. Reminds me of my wife. She's a great sport and she has warmed up to the music and enjoys the shows and the scene but still to this day she still doesn't "get it". She wants me to take her to Reo Speedwagon and Styx... uhhh yeah sure I say... :-) Oh and 38 special let's not forget them they'll be there too :-) "When the smoke has cleared she said, that's what she said to me. Being a veteran of many shows at the Coliseum, last night was amazing. Just the scene in the lot was trans-splendid. Vending, partying, drumming and everyone was cool... even the police. They sat there, on horseback, and just smiled. Every scalper was selling seats at half box office price. Karma's a bitch, dude. The show jammed out. Lost Sailor Easy Wind fucking brilliant. Kudos out to everyone for making it a Grateful Dead experience. Truly a high time for one and all. Peace and Love. Tell me this town ain't got no heart You just got to poke around "Oh if a man tried To take his time on earth And prove before he died What one man's life could be worth I wonder what would happen To this world."

Went to the Worcester shows with wife and friend. He paid $100 for some plain white blotter from someone that "looked" like a head, talked like a head, and appeared to be honest, but alas, it was bunk. What a bummer, not only did he trust that he was going to get something good to enhance the time at the show, he is out $100! I know that's the chances one takes, but unlike the "old" days, the costs have gone up so you feel the loss that much more.

I've got the Jersey & Philly shows coming up. My buddy is joining us for those ones too, and it probably would not be a good scene to run into that "wolf" as he would just as soon give him a $100 worth of ass whoop! In a way I would love to see him get a beating, the crook, but wouldn't want to have to deal with any possible arrests as that would be insult to injury!I guess the "grateful family" has been infiltrated by those that have no problem thieving. I know they have always been out there, but it definitely becomes more personal when they burn you! ! What it ends up doing in the end, sadly, is make it hard to trust the next person.

Hi- Here's the deal. I'm a taper and have a taper ticket for both nights at Izod in NJ. I have floor tickets to get my wife and kids onto the floor with me on Tuesday but not Wednesday (they're 5 & 3 and she's pregnant) so I need them to be close to me. I need to trade my 3 regular tickets for Wednesday for 3 floor tickets. They can be ANYWHERE on the floor (the further back, the better for me). The 3 regular tickets I have are in Section 122 which are RIGHT ON THE SIDE near the stage! These are MUCH better seats than the back of the floor. Of course, I will hook you up w/ copies of the shows from Nassau, MSG, the 2 nights of NJ and the 2 nights of Philly (the 6 I went/am going). Please let me know asap!! Thanks!!
