We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Packaging and Tracklist ,, where's the product reveal

Rhino Cat got your tongue ? I don't really care when the box ships,, because I am under the impression it's going to happen,, but the email they sent a few days ago stating delays was a scramble and that one was to cover their butt, so nobody went Legal on them.. I would suggest from Upper Tier Rhinos that you provide more info (video trailer of Box reveal) before this thing ships. What's with the Blank Stare? and I thought when this was announced they had already seen a final product? Such as,, Product dimensions, credit to Artist, how's CDS, and 7 inch will be packaged,, are a few things to address.. Tracklist, I wasn't expecting really any surprises, most of the shows I have heard,, Disc 15 (9.24.72) looks to be one of the top for me,, it has the Dark Star > China > Rider. And I believe it's followed up by a Super Skull Splitter attack from Garcia on the next disc (11.14.73) Here Comes Sunshine,, this should melt a lot of faces Rhino what's the plans for Black Friday ??? Deadline is coming soon,, please no revisits on released material.. Would love a Mono Recording for the Black Friday Grateful Dead release. And my guess for Dave's Picks 16 is a show from 1971 MG stash or a November / December 1981 show. To finish the year with an 80's pick would be a nice gesture and then get everybody fired up for 2016 Subscription by teasing the MG stash 1971 show for the first pick of 2016.. RSD suggestions 4.24.66 5.6.70 Or Avalon October 1968 !!! Order up

Well, they credit "Salt Lake City" to being written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love which is an entirely different song altogether and highly unlikely to be an error on the box set CDs or liner notes themselves. That alone gives me pause for concern as to the accuracy of any of it.

I also tend to agree that the All Music listing is accurate, and that it doesn't reveal in any way how the shows are packaged. And yeah Claney, I don't think anyone wants a big binder full of 80 discs as the packaging. If this is to be the Box to Rule Them All, then individual Digi-Paks please.

I agree with Shakespeare

I think his post that the handling of this snafu is unprofessional was Dead on. If you are one of 6000 plus people that committed to probably one of the most expensive music box sets ever, you deserve a little bit more of an explanation than what was given. It came off unprofessional & everyone is simply left guessing as to what is the issue. Yes people can wait to ensure that they get the product as close to perfect as it should be. But how about a little more public relations? In the grand scheme of things it is not such a big deal. The unbearable humidity has finally broken here in NYC, 1st NFL Sunday coming up, Jewish New Year as well. So life is still pretty good, enjoy the weekend & maybe feed off this famous Shakespeare quote: Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.

Don't have to be so cranky...no one is suggesting that this is proof that the shows won't be individually stored in the box...in fact, it's quite the opposite. If you look at their listing of The Golden Road set (http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-golden-road-1965-1973-mw0000011100), they do the exact same thing; its a 12-disc listing. As we all know, the albums were still stored individually on that set. However, it's clear that Allmusic has seen more of the box than we have, given the presence the complete 7/3/66 on their list.

As usual, rrot you make good points. You wrote: "Is there really any doubt that the shows will be treated individually?" Not long ago I would have replied - "Of course there's no doubt." But that was before they systematically refused to respond to my queries on the subject. I have yet to see a single person in this forum say they wish the shows were all in a giant folder or something. Not one. But many have said they want the shows to be in individual cases of some kind. So, if they did plan it as one big folder, my explanation for their silence is that they've realized they'd better keep it under wraps until after credit cards are charged. That is, of course, crazy talk and totally baseless, but it stems from being ignored. So I'm going for the crazy talk all the way, hahahahaha. If they would like to answer my simple question, perhaps I'll see things differently. EDIT - Marye - are you reading this? Any chance you can help get an answer?

If you want to think it's an accurate

reflection of the box, then you've got to believe there will be no indication where one show begins and another ends, that there will be no sign whatsoever that disc 52 belongs to one show or another. Because that's what allmusic is showing.

And I'm actually explaining how that probably, most likely, to a near f@cking certainty, has nothing to do with dead.net or how the box is really constituted?? I surrender. Lost In Space

Well, I sit about 100 miles east of Taylor PA patiently awaiting UPS's arrival at my office, while I read about deliveries elsewhere in my general vicinity and farther afield (MD, IL). I got the shipping update email but my order status still says its backordered with estimated shipping date of 10/31. It does seem that there is no rhyme or reason to the sequence in which they are shipping based on the fact that a couple of the recipients posting here ordered the box after I did. But that's OK, I'm just glad they started shipping finally and it's fun reading all the giddy posts...like kids in a candy store. And I have plenty of good tunes to listen to until the box lands here. I'm a patient man.

No email about shipment, no shipping info., no emailed links for unveiling yikes !! Only gotten multiple emails about delays and shipping address confirmations. Item still says backorder and I placed it on day 1, hour two so now I'm getting worried. No news is still good news right?

USB has not gone out, according to someone at Dead.net

I just got off the phone with Dead.net, and they said that the USB chips are actually scheduled to go out at the end of the month while the box set is shipping now. Wonder why the USB chip is taking so long.

Selling 17 CDs from an era I don't care for from my box set and letting people bid on them to decide their worth is not gauging anybody, and folks in fact were appreciative that I broke up a box set. The irony was, I thought I would reach out to you to burn you some '73 stuff before I realized what a turd you are.

Been loving your posts the last few weeks, we are for the most part a giddy bunch. Question to all, how much space do you think 6,500 of these boxes takes up? I mean if they ship 1,000 a day, that is pretty impressive. I am sure the Europeans get a pallet or two. Then thousand+ (of boxes, maybe 64 boxes/pallet)to the West of the Mississip. I still bet 50% are in the NE corridor...as even Grateful Dead called it deadhead alley (Boston to Washington D.C.). Edit 1) So maybe the U.S. gets 5000 boxes (?) Europe 1,000 - Aussie 250 and maybe the rest of the world 250? Hmmm I would be absolutely interested in that data.

UPS tells me the box has shipped, but order status still says backordered, estimated to ship 10/31/15. I would say, Don't worry about the order status.

I've owned a steamer and 90 1st box but this BOX takes the CIGAR WARLOCKS BOX to the next level. how do you guys feel? I've dubbed it the cigar dehumidifier

Thanks for the dimensions. When I saw the video yesterday I could see it was smaller then I originally expected it would be which is a good thing. I have just the perfect spot picked out in my music room for this baby. Glad to see you are in Bethlehem. My daughter went to Lehigh so we spent quite a bit of time down there a few years ago. I downloaded 9/25/81 show from Stabler Arena a couple of years ago. I like to have shows from venues that I know. Go Mt. Hawks! Rock on

Liner notes

Has anyone who has the box spoken about this yet? I haven't seen it. But I know someone else asked. From the quoted length of the book and the way it appears in the video, the liner notes Are Not in the book. So my edumacated guess is, The Liner Notes Are With The Individual Shows.

I wasn't worried per-say but just curious. I live in the boonies where mail doesn't get delivered and was just trying to figure out if I should take a trip to the post office. I seriously doubt that it will arrive here in AK for a few weeks...which just sucks. :(

The CDS I looked at have a message from Dave I tried the last show. I couldn't find anything in the book but I'm probably the guy really answer but there is no booklet to the shows. the book reeads both you read half than have to make the back the cover I thought that was badass

If you really want to know when the set will arrive at your door... Get a free UPS.com account (not a Premium, or whatever they call it). It will tell you the scheduled date and the tracking. You don't even have to know your package number, it will find it for you. Just have to make sure your name and address are exactly as dead.net has it.

Show notes compared to the 4CD-set

Can anyone give an opinion on the quality of the show notes. I believe in the 4cd truncated set - there were show-by-show reviews and notes. Are these replicated here or would the 4cd box be a good accompaniment to get to also get more detail on shows (as well as be a handy one for thee car).
