"When we began discussing audio projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead back in 2012, we knew we wanted to do something completely unprecedented. We could think of nothing more exciting or ambitious than a career-spanning overview of the band's live legacy focused on what best tells the story: complete concerts. Our first criterion was the very best live music to represent any given year in the band’s history. We wanted to make sure that there were not only the tent-pole shows that fans have been demanding for decades but also ones that are slightly more under the radar, but equally excellent. For those who listen to the entire box straight through, chronologically, the narrative of the Grateful Dead's live legacy will be seen as second to none in the pantheon of music history." - David Lemieux

We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Shows will NOT be sold individually on CD. This release is sure to sell out quickly so pre-order your copy today and stick around as we will be revealing a mighty fine selection of music, art, and much, much more right here.

(Looking for a smaller 50th Anniversary commemorative keepsake? September 18th will see the release of a four-CD version of the collection titled 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN: THE DEFINITIVE LIVE STORY 1965-1995. More on that here.)

Has landed in Philly, here goes a quick rundownIt's actually "2 books" in one. The first 400 pages covers "new" material, the section titled "More Words" pages 14-23 cover the origins of DeadBase including a story by Rob Eaton titled the "Betty Tape Story" also most noteworthy are pages 25-67 which cover DeadBase updates. AFTER page 400 it's an exact reprint of DeadBase XI FTW is on page 384 & includes BOTH Santa Clara & Chicago. It'll make a beautiful coffee table book as it's quite thick & hard covered. In fact I don't think the wife will mind putting this one on the coffee table. Now back to work I have to pull out the dishwasher, what fun that is going to be. I MUST resist the temptation & put it down otherwise NOTHING will get done, TRUST ME!!!! I've waited since 1999 for a "new DeadBase now it's here & I have work to do, like the saying goes " business BEFORE pleasure". Just thought you folks in Deadland would like to know. In conclusion after only spending 20 minutes with this book I've come to a conclusion that this is the BEST $89.99 I've spent in many, many years, all I can say is GET THIS BOOK NOW!!!!!! THANK YOU MR. POST MAN!!!!!

Some people seem confused and think this is a new version of Deadbase, which would be Deadbase XII, it's not. Deadbase 50 is a reprint of Deadbase XI expanded with new updates and feature sections. The original Deadbase XI was done on proprietary mac software in the mid 1990's and unable to be imported into a new database, so instead of redoing the years of data entry from scratch to create a new Deadbase, they did the updates in a different program. That's the problem with printed versions of databases, they can't be updated on the fly and why this reprint is more for people that missed out on DB XI or people like me that want a Deadbase for my digital GD as the other ones are all annotated based on my analog collection.

The wife is taking the kids out shopping for school clothes & supplies, now the wife is okay, I'm okay however just one look the girls' faces & you'd think the world is coming to an end TODAY!!! Oh yes the dreaded thought that uh oh summer's over & we got the 'we didn't do anything all summer" speech well little do they know that the final week of August & the first week of September we are going to the Pocono Mountains in August then down to Wildwood, N.J. in September. As the wife leaves for Kenya on September 15th, our young one starts Kindergarten on September 14th, the wife will not MISS OUT on that event as she gets in a good cry as the kid heads off to school. When our 9 year old started school the wife cried so much you'd think she was heading off to war, I expect the same reaction with our 4 year old who turns 5 August 30th. So the wife will be out & as usual she hands me a "honey do" list it's not much but the things on the list require a bit of "heavy" work, the most important thing on the list is to find out why the dishwasher leaks, & she wants me to paint an accent wall in our bedroom & move the furniture in our older kids room as the wife is trying create more floor space for her, the wife has all these crazy "ideas" that she gets from reading to many home decorating magazines for some reason they NEVER come out the way she planned so then I have to move everything back to it's original position. As I'm doing various chores around the house I MUST choose proper listening material, I'm feeling kind of Road Trippy today so I'm going to start with Volume1 No.1 Fall '79 then the Wall Of Sound from Summer '74 then Denver '73 & finish off with Valentines '68 all in all it will be a good day to get things done around here as the wife & the kids are out. I bet I have an easier day then the wife will as she has to deal with 2 VERY unhappy campers, all I have to deal with is a small list to make a wife very happy. Well time to get to work. I will let you kind folks out here in Deadland know how everything works out. HAPPY SATURDAY!!!!!

Yeah, I initially had a lot of guilt and worry about spending the money for this. That is subsiding and now I am starting to just get really excited about this thing and listening to all of those shows. My current Dick's Picks/Road Trips/Dave's Picks selections don't cover a good deal of these years. I hope the final package, which we've seen practically nothing of, is just the most beautiful earthly possession ever.

All this deadbase talk has got me jonesin' to get back to the music. Stats, setlists, etc. are fine, but its the music that gets my blood flowing. Call me a purist.. and I'm not Jerry centric (ok, I lied), but when the band is on, and someone hit record and they put out the Box Set to Rule All Box Sets, and its going to ship in two weeks.. I care more for what was played than what was written. Was anyone at these shows? Augusta? San Diego Sports Arena, Riverbend, Oxford Plains? More likely than not, yes.. and our friends were there with their gf's/bf's and they're married w/ kids now, I bet there was a freak or two that turned out to be a.ok. There were some life changing moments that occurred at these shows. I know it. Time to spill your beans people, don't worry, your boss doesn't visit this site. Lets hear it.

Well, I sit about 100 miles east of Taylor PA patiently awaiting UPS's arrival at my office, while I read about deliveries elsewhere in my general vicinity and farther afield (MD, IL). I got the shipping update email but my order status still says its backordered with estimated shipping date of 10/31. It does seem that there is no rhyme or reason to the sequence in which they are shipping based on the fact that a couple of the recipients posting here ordered the box after I did. But that's OK, I'm just glad they started shipping finally and it's fun reading all the giddy posts...like kids in a candy store. And I have plenty of good tunes to listen to until the box lands here. I'm a patient man.

Got this pleasant message in my box: "you said: Sorry Profiteers.. Looks like you scalpers will have unsealed products to send out. Muah muah. I say: you deserve to be buried under medical bills and to rely on selling CDs to make ends meet, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone, so I forgive you for your malicious intent. But you should have a kinder attitude toward others, especially considering that selling a product is a legal activity, and one that your country is built on. Did you ever consider that one of the generous people on this board who answer your stupid questions all day long might be a re-seller of CDs? You're all class pal, take that ridiculous suit off." Because nobody else has financial woes, apparently. Oh, and I'm wearing athletic shorts and a t-shirt. I guess that would indeed make a ridiculous suit.

lol - I didn't want to embarrass you by posting that comment, but it appears you have no shame. Or maybe you do, as you didn't publicize your response. Like I said class act all the way. Selling 17 CDs from an era I don't care for from my box set and letting people bid on them to decide their worth is not gauging anybody, and folks in fact were appreciative that I broke up a box set. The irony was, I thought I would reach out to you to burn you some '73 stuff before I realized what a turd you are.

Been loving your posts the last few weeks, we are for the most part a giddy bunch. Question to all, how much space do you think 6,500 of these boxes takes up? I mean if they ship 1,000 a day, that is pretty impressive. I am sure the Europeans get a pallet or two. Then thousand+ (of boxes, maybe 64 boxes/pallet)to the West of the Mississip. I still bet 50% are in the NE corridor...as even Grateful Dead called it deadhead alley (Boston to Washington D.C.). Edit 1) So maybe the U.S. gets 5000 boxes (?) Europe 1,000 - Aussie 250 and maybe the rest of the world 250? Hmmm I would be absolutely interested in that data.

Thanks for the dimensions. When I saw the video yesterday I could see it was smaller then I originally expected it would be which is a good thing. I have just the perfect spot picked out in my music room for this baby. Glad to see you are in Bethlehem. My daughter went to Lehigh so we spent quite a bit of time down there a few years ago. Has anyone who has the box spoken about this yet? I haven't seen it. But I know someone else asked. From the quoted length of the book and the way it appears in the video, the liner notes Are Not in the book. So my edumacated guess is, The Liner Notes Are With The Individual Shows.

If you really want to know when the set will arrive at your door... Get a free UPS.com account (not a Premium, or whatever they call it). It will tell you the scheduled date and the tracking. You don't even have to know your package number, it will find it for you. Just have to make sure your name and address are exactly as dead.net has it.

Can anyone give an opinion on the quality of the show notes. I believe in the 4cd truncated set - there were show-by-show reviews and notes. Are these replicated here or would the 4cd box be a good accompaniment to get to also get more detail on shows (as well as be a handy one for thee car).
