    caught the last ones here
I grew up going to boat shows at this arena, so imagine my suprise when I saw bundles of sage instead of sailboats! My 3rd-5th shows, the 1988 LB shows is where I "got it". The lobby is really cool. There is alot of space to dance or sit on the back steps (see my show reviews of this). The parking lots are small but there seemed to be ample street parking. (something I have only seen at HJ Kaiser in Oakland) It was great to be that close to the water. Shoreline Marina had just been completed so there are some really neat areas to walk around. What a great place to be for a Dead show!

My first post on this site and got to say hi first. This was a strange set of weekend shows as Metallica played this venue the Friday night before and their fans trashed the seats inside. The Deadheads were of course later blamed for that and that was the last time the Dead were allowed to play in the LBC. I was lucky to have gotten to go backstage on Saturday night during the intermission, and all I remember is seeing Phil sitting with the road crew in the locker room while the rest of the band had their own areas we were not permitted to go to. Also, my friend found a bag of various pills in the backstage bathroom that he kept but never told me what they were lol.

when I was in town for something else. But, considering that the last time I'd been there, it was to see the Rolling Stones with Brian Jones on the white guitar, it was a bit different.

My first Dead shows. I thought all my boyfriend's friends were a little crazy, reciting set lists from the week before. We camped in the parking lot in my Dodge van. Blazed all night and the next day. The second night we stayed in a hotel... remember looking in the mirror and seeing how I could make myself beautiful or ugly just by changing my thoughts/my heart. Powerful message. Had a wonderful time... been in love with the Dead ever since.

used to live in Long Beach way back when..caught 1 show there. don't recall too many details other than it was very good...my friend had a great quote about Jerry after this show..."everyone knows he's the greatest guitarist on the planet; he does not have to prove it every song". very few of us complained about THAT over the years!
