We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Larry Campbell, revisited

Not to beat a dead horse, but thought this one might be topical but forgot it earlier. Larry always sang on Deep Elem Blues with Levon, and has continued to play it. I've always loved that one, and I know Jerry (& the Dead) played it (and on the new On Broadway release!) so thought someone may be interested. Sammy - Musical mind of happiness, that is a fantastic turn of phrase and an accurate description! As far as recommended records for Larry & Teresa, unfortunately he's such an artist (and / or I'm just not privy to his other work) where there's not a lot necessarily released that sums him up. The two Levon albums we mentioned already are by far my favorite as far as official releases that feature him, as well as Dylan's Love & Theft from 2001. Fantastic frickin' album, including my favorite modern Dylan song..which generally I mean 2000+ but in this case I'd say my favorite since 1976 at least. Anyways, Larry plays some great stuff on Love & Theft..but probably his best representation with Dylan, to me, is either live from the late 90s / 2000, or the Masked & Anonymous soundtrack from 2003. I love that whole album and not to mention the movie. Actually, there's a Dead version if It's All Over Now, Baby Blue on the soundtrack..as well as a Jerry (maybe JGB?) version of Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power). I need to go back and see when / where those versions are from! Doesn't look like there's alot of M&A on Youtube, but here's Cold Irons Bound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hO-83CIVKM Larry played several stringed instruments during his time with Dylan..(my favorite was the bouzouki), but he also sang with him which was fun, not to mention a change. Typically, I believe, it was Larry & Charlie Sexton (who is back in Dylan's band now, since 2009, having left for a long spell) adding in on chorus, etc. Here's a version from Blowin' In The Wind, my guess would be 2000 without looking any deeper at the current moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EwuaNOdfHg Also at that time, '99-01' for the most part, they did a ton of old country gospel time tunes, often as opener. He was a great harmony singer on those (Rock of Ages, Hallelujah I'm Ready To Go, Somebody Touched Me, etc) and other old time covers...I love a good Rovin' Gambler from that time. Here's some killer live stuff from 2000, can't see Larry since they zoom in on Bob the whole time, but you can sure hear him. I'm not so much on the live stuff, though I would have gave my left foot to have gone to a Midnight Ramble (and I'm left footed!). But I'm not so much into the big saxophone, etc, sound. Some stuff worked really well, but I don't listen often to Ramble at the Ryman or the other live late Levon stuff. The MerleFest set from 2008 was available on iTunes and I really enjoyed some of it, Goin' Back to Memphis was great. I'll admit I don't know much about Teresa, besides being paired with Larry and adding much to Levon's band. to buy or not to buy 30 trips

I didn't buy the Europe 72 box or Spring 90 part one but have gotten all the Daves, 77 box, and spring 90 TOO. I really would love this box. I recall getting So Many Roads back in the day and being blown away by the way they covered their history....and now this beast. Is it worth $700? I'm excited to see the 80s and 90s getting picks although I would've went all in with Brent and gave 90 to him. I guess there's a lot of 90 Brent out there. So what's the consensus? Is this release worth it and how many are left now? For 95, I thought Seattle would've been the pick but I'll trust DL.

Larry & Teresa......Amy Helm and more

Just caught Larry & Teresa, with jorma k, about ..mm two months ago at Swallow Hill in Denver and man they were fantastic -- all acoustic. They did a GD song, but it wasn't Attics. This week: Amy Helm, Mavis Staples and Patti Griffin at Chautauqua in Boulder. Oh yeah! Gotta love that live thang. As for The Band, well, Watkins Glen, Roosevelt Stad two-nighter with GD, both in '73. Then just before the Last Waltz, The Band rocked the Academy of Music for the umpteenth time. I was in the balcony and man, that thing was flexing to the NY audience getting its rocks off on Levon & Co. Bless 'em!

APOLOGIES IF THIS POST DUPLICATES Your attention to one of my A-list shows made me smile! Various facets of 6/8 could serve as exemplars for an exhaustive range of commonly invoked DeadHead superlatives like cosmic, mind melting, other worldly, and a litany of others! You've identified the crown's jewel in the split PITB, but don't forget the delectable WR filling, worthy of a menu listing at Katz's Deli, in addition to a second course of epic Eyes that, in small pockets like 7:10, exemplifies the maturation of Keith's trademark contribution; as well, at 10:25, for a brief period, Jerry orbits independently around a tight planetary core of jazzy fusion until the ensemble realigns along the song's signature theme...all in all, it's about 57 minutes of pedigreed Dead that could take the podium for Best of Show alongside prime cuts from any era! While I've practically memorized a couple lines from Ross's brief, but indelible, review, I now reopen the DBase tome for those who might not be as familiar: "The great thing about the big 74 Dead jams is the way the band totally loses its identity as a bunch of hippies from Marin and turns itself (and the audience) into dinosaurs, galaxies, hurricanes, whirlpools, amoebas...about two minutes into the [Playin'] jam, Garcia is already so far gone into his prehistoric condor jag that the rest of the band has no choice but to 'boldly go where no man has gone before'. So, what started out as a nice outdoor-fun-festival-picnic-type event has suddenly become some kind of howling cosmic frontier back about 400 million years ago....This is unquestionably one of the most powerful Playin' jams in history" and "it culminates in a colossal giant-soundsystem roar that is probably still rattling windows at the center of the galaxy." A germane inquiry I share, and one that sent me to my 'little black book' of personal reviews immediately after ordering last month(!); while, admittedly, I've not previously listened to most of the box's inventory, 12 of the shows were listed. Of particular note, I wonder about the reportedly missing material from '66, specifically, Minglewood; Cold Rain; BIODTL; Cream Puff; 'Z a Good Thing; and 2 apparently unspecified tracks (especially given that circulating material constitutes just over a half-hour of play time!). Moreover, I note the official release titled "Rare Cuts & Oddities 1966" contains 2 songs attributed to this show that (also) do not circulate among commonly available streaming and d/l sources (i.e., Gangster of Love and Don't Mess Up a Good Thing). Additionally, I wonder if our pending release will reveal '67's missing BIODTL. Also, given the technical issues plaguing circulating copies of the '84 SBD, will we see a clean board that eclipses Holtz's authoritative AUD (i.e., show me the Dew!). Finally, what repairs might we expect to the thin Evans AUD used to fill the SBD's missing BEW on Seamons' MTX of that fine '92 show? For the sake of curiosity (at least), I should be grateful for other information regarding incomplete or flawed circulating shows amongst The 30 outside my admittedly finite realm of familiarity! :) thanks and peace, K

I will have to check the 6-8 playin out..I'm a big fan of the 8-6-74 (Roosevelt stadium) playin"... Some real mind melting lysergic funk in that one, especially toward the end..it gets real out there, whole concert is quite rediculous, possibly one of the best eyes as well..

arrived at home last night from a 16 hr day to find waiting, my personal miracle....30 Trips was here!!! And what a beautiful box it is. Now that I have the day to myself, I begin an audio journey,peace to all

Am I the only one here who cringed when they saw that the 7" single was just on the lid sandwiched between 2 pieces of wood. No scratches but I'm curious how may will be as people try to slide it out.

30 Trips.....

....finished its trip to Northeast Philly yesterday afternoon.... I didn't get a shipping notice so that made it a very nice surprise. My first impression? "They sure didn't skimp on this."

Wood is Not Good

I wanted to start out by saying how grateful I am that this box was assembled. It's great to have a community so enthusiastic about music stretching back a half century. With that said . . . In response to the post on 10/08 at 12:43 by wissinomingdeadhead "It's WOOD and the wood is GOOD" Unfortunately - No. It's not wood. It's particle board with a veneer overlay. Mine came yesterday and the lid was peeled away from the front left corner. I made my avatar a picture of the damaged box. Second, we paid $740 for veneer and not full grain, real wood. That's a massive, massive let down. Sure, it could probably be re-glued but that's not the point (and the veneer does not match-up when you press it down anyway - it's already warped, so it will never look right even if 'fixed'). I'm glad it appears from a review of the comments below that my box is the only one to have suffered this damage in transit. That's good for the GD fans but I hate to he bearer of bad news. The box's composition means that the condition my box is in now will eventually be the condition of each and every one of the 6500 boxes. Wood can withstand the test of time. MDF, Glue & Veneer cannot. It's not a question of if, only when. The music is the most important thing but when you make a decision to design a product instead of simply offering digital downloads, the physical design becomes part and parcel of the overall packaging. You simply cannot separate the two. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Ecstatic about the music. Deeply disappointed in the product design.

Arrived in Haverford, PA last night. Incredibly cool and the streams do not do the sound quality justice. 10-12-84 is just amazing. I am a fan of 1984 but given what they did with this release of that show, I can live with the likelihood of never seeing another 1984 release. Also, the scroll is much cooler in reality than comes across on the PDF. Book too, but moreso the scroll. Anyone get a USB delivered yer?

MA deliveries, &c.

Dear other impatient Massheads: I live just outside of Boston (like really 'just'--about 25 feet), didn't pay extra for faster shipping options, have had no shipping email from Deadnet (other than the really general one), and my order status is still showing 'Backordered.' But, according to the MyUps service (thanks for that tip, everyone), my box should land sometime on Monday. That's good to hear, as I'll be out of town from tonight to Sunday morning for a wedding in Philly, and now I don't have to worry about the goods disappearing from the porch while I'm on the road. It also means that I'll be driving south this afternoon from MA to PA, while my box rides with its friends from PA to MA. Arrgh--so close! Reports from those with this thing in hand are most encouraging. I'd wish you all a good weekend, but I know you'll manage to do that anyway! 2cents on the reseller question: I've never sold anything GD-related except extra tickets in the parking lot, but I've always sold those at face value or less, and always to people who looked like fans, not resellers. Too, I've bought tix resale, but only ever at face value, and usually from friends whose plans fell apart at the last minute. That said, I was pretty cash poor from roughly 1997 to 2007, and missed out on a lot of DPs, RTs, and FW69 because of it. To be able to get my hands on some of those releases has meant dipping into the world of resales, and I appreciate that there are copies out there for me to consider (although some are $till out of reach). Expect I'll see everyone in Worcester for Dead & Co.?

I appreciate the update on the MA/Boston area shipment(s). For whatever reason, when I went to sign up for MyUPS Choice, I got to the very end, and it gave me an error message saying my address was listed as a commercial address and it is open to the public (news to me???) and therefore they couldn't give me tracking info. Odd, because we live in a single family on a cul de sac...the furthest thing from a commercial addy! Ahh well. Had me wondering though, when this puppy might hit my stoop. Need that Stoop Cam. Sounds like it may be Monday then...which incidentally is Columbus Day and I have off work but hope it's not a day off for Mister Postman. "My Choice?" Maybe, Maybe Not

I live in a remote part of west Texas and must rely on a post office box. This means my dead.net shipments come via UPS’s dreaded “Mail Innovations”. UPS hands off these packages to the USPS for delivery. I wasn’t seeing my Boxilla delivery on UPS’s “My Choice”, so I checked with UPS just now. They told me that Mail Innovation shipments DO NOT show up on “My Choice”. Looks like those of us in this boat will be sailing blind, but keep the faith – much more likely than not your tsunami of music is (or is about to be) heading your way! Get ready to catch that wave! Onward!

I had it shipped to my office here in the metro NYC area, so it would not sit on my front porch, but my office is of course a commercial address and therefore not trackable by MyUPSChoice. When I inquired this morning the nice woman at dead.net told me they would be sending out shipping confirmation and tracking numbers in the next "1 - 2 business days". So...I tell myself to remain a patient man a little longer. I suspect we are far from the only customers in this information never-never land. All things in time, all things in time.... Right?

jw1895 - You are not the only one - My box came with a nice puncture wound from the outside shipping box through the inside shipping box and right through my 30 Trips box. I already called for a replacement.

THERE IS STILL HOPE HERE IN CONNECTICUT

After checking UPS website all morning long with no luck (THANKS TO THOSE WITH THE HELPFUL TIP SUGGESTION) and reading the posts, I decided to check the website one more time. BAM I signed on and there popped up a calendar on the UPS Site for a delivery between 10:30-12:30 from the Warner Music Group. PLUS... I have NOT received any email from Dead.net about shipping. Anyone thinking about torturing themselve and waiting to open this up on Christmas morning. Wouldn't it be nice to feel like an 8 year old kid and getting all excited about Christmas again. YES I'm actually thinking about it.... We shall see how long that lasts.... Stay tuned

Box Quality

I have to agree with some who are not happy with the construction of this box. The laminate is already starting to peel on my box and some of the wood base panels do not line up. That being said its all about the music which is fantastic so far. For $23.33 per show I feel this is well worth the price. I just don't think the box will hold up very well.

Customer Service

Just talked with a nice rep at customer service. They have no idea if boxes are being shipped out. They are not getting updates. With that being said, she told me that there is a possibility it might have shipped already. I'm hoping so. I cannot wait to dig into those 93, 94 and 95 shows!!!

And just like that...

The box arrives. Only problem is I'm 2 hours away and it's raining back home. Had to call the neighbor. Luckily the box only got a little damp on the bottom when the UPS guy slid it onto the porch. Now the long wait. I love the camp in the Adirondacks, and I love the fall foliage, but I also really, really love the Dead. Maybe I can leave just a couple hours earlier then planned. Going to be hard to wait.

I agree with folks on this board who always say to just ignore the real pains in the neck like you. But I can no longer do that. You have gone above & beyond anything I have ever seen here. Very interesting that Cinram Group manufactured these. I should have figured as there are not many CD pressing firms out there. That means these disks were pressed 10 minutes from my house. I had forgotten about Cinram, have had friends work there for years. I totally forgot about getting In the Dark and Dicks Picks 1 for free from some buddies. Man, I have to go through some of my old boxes. I was just about to buy DP1, and still may, off of ebay. I need some of you extremely organized folks to come spend a weekend with me. Free Head Food!

Starting to bug the F out

Any advice for someone who's credit card was charged but order still reads back ordered on this site and has received nothing as far as info from this site or customer service , plus after trying my choice UPS gets a message that reads " there are currently no items in transit to your address" (address has not changed either ) ... Happy for those who are already listening , but this kinda sucks for anyone in my shoes ...anyone else in this predicament ?

Hi, I also live right outside of Boston and my shipment time on the UPS MyChoice page is Monday between 10:30 and 2:30. Thankfully, I'm off for Columbus Day. It seems like most of the Boston area should get shipments then...

mikeblood - I'm in the same boat. i wouldn't worry. this is not unusual for dead.net. it'll all work out. my guess is that the shipping's happening over the course of many days. i've had situations where i get my box 2 weeks after others have received there's, and the email saying it's been shipped comes a day or two after it gets here.
