http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAhXajgXBuM For me, they nailed this - and what an opener it was! You can tell how pleasantly Bobby is by the middle of the song, as he realizes they're in a special moment or space. Speaking for myself, Mayer has brought back a new life and energy to the Dead's song catologue. Every variation in the line up of acts like Further, The Dead, Phil & Friends, just never quite did it for me, having been fortunate enough to compare it to seeing the Grateful Dead in the 90s. But with Mayer, I'm finally getting flashbacks and I find myself saying, "Oh yeah, that's the sound and feeling I remember..." Guys, we're lucky to be witnessing this "comeback." I understand the detractors, but remember, the younger generations never had a chance to see Garcia, so the important thing is that the love and spirit is carried on. And we're fortunate a player of Mayer's caliber has stepped up to fill the ever-so-big shoes that will never fit. But Mayer is playing from the heart and that IS evident to everyone. His licks are so tasteful and the technicality of his playing is a joy to watch. As for Oteil, I love the guy, but Phil's style and bass bombs are missed. The tour is just at the start, hopefully things will click even more. Cheers and love to all.

This show was so much fun mixed drinks and a security crew who did not know what hit them. many have said on this web site and others the helicopter with police circling over head I think it was the local media because there were not many concerts like this one. held at a tennis court.... Now this was a super fun night. We had the folding chairs folded up and removed for our typical dance area in less then minutes and away we went for the night dancing like crazy hippies.

Landover 3/16/90 It's okay; I give them all a chance. Nice, I would call it. Some good moments. I won't mention what I don't like because I don't want to make anyone feel bad - there's too much of that in any blog, and this is no exception. I don't appreciate my favorite band - some of my favorite people - attacked ever. Anyway, I always enjoy the shows from this box, but I don't find them memorable among the many shows released, except for one. Since I can't remember which one that is, I'll be in for a good surprise someday. I put all my cds on a list in an OpenOffice Excel style program, and line them up with a randomizing formula. Select all, and shuffle away with the sort feature. Never a dull moment. So I could just as easily be listening to Bartok right now, or Melvins, or Dylan, or Neil, or Irish trad, or Beatles, or Psychedelic Lollipop, or Zorba the Greek... But I have all the Dead releases other than Greatest Hits, and albums such as Steppin' Out that have become redundant; I gave those away to those who deserved them. The only set I never purchased is the second set of Spring 1990. Really, one is quite enough for me, and this is the only exception I have ever made to total deadicated official coverage. Well, I don't do post-Jerome. I'll listen, but I won't purchase. Personally, I'd rather listen to Dark Star Orchestra, and I mean absolutely no offense by that. My very favorite period is "Yes, please, I'd like to hear that one, Thank you!" The Dave's Picks series have all been scorchers, real barn-burners. Perhaps not adventurous in terms of exotic and unusual tours, but every Dave's P show has knocked me flat and given me palpitations. Thanks Dave. Please keep me subscribed, no matter how big yr box.
