Awest may have been a Deadhead, but that doesn't mean he is not a jerk. What I found most interesting was his claiming to be a "Jerry Guy." Does he really think that Jerry would have appreciated someone who went to Dead shows in order to laugh at people? Whether he saw 5, 50 or 500 shows doesn't matter, he simply never "got it." Frankly, rather than getting angry with guys like him, we should feel sorry for them for being so angry. Man, laughing at people at Dead shows. How sad. As far as the First Amendment goes. This site is not run by the government, so any mention of the First Amendment is irrelevant. This site is private and the people who run it have the absolute right to revoke your privilege to post here if you violate their rules. That being said, it is very, very rare that that happens, even though there is alot of criticism on the site. Our moderator is really cool and lets most people speak their mind. As I posted before, I hope the new people to the site are not turned off by the posts in this topic, as it really does not reflect the community that frequent this site. I don't have an issue with ticket prices or how much the band makes. I was just curious if you had some inside information because your numbers sounded very high to me. I looked around on the internet, and I saw 25% as the high end for established bands at large venues. Here is a link if anyone cares: http://www.mbajungle.com/main.cfm?inc=inc_article.cfm&chid=4&schid=0&WT…

Nor did he see 500 shows. Anyone who followed the Grateful Dead that extensively would never be such an a-hole especially to other Deadheads. Oh and yes I have seen the Grateful Dead and yes Jerry was the man but he also messed the band up due to his heroin habit towards the end (90's). I love all the different Grateful Dead-related bands - Phil and Friends, Ratdog, Other Ones, The Dead - they all have a different outlook on the same music and I enjoy hearing those differences. Always experimenting - that's the Grateful Dead mantra. Someone quick pass the joint to awest he needs it! Just a guess really………..more than likely could be less. Maybe 40-45% is more accurate. Then “The Tax Man” will take about 42% so when all is said and done, they may net 1.5 – 2MM each. That’s not that outrageous, when you think what ball players get.

How do you figure that the band gets to pocket 60% of the gross ticket sales?

I sure did spend a lot of time following that band around. Hunter was only with them for about a year, '84-'85, but it was pretty great.

I agree. They are definitely worth checking out. Especially for $25... "Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space. It rainbow then exploded, left a bus stop in its place. I haven't seen Hot Tuna for 10 yrs or so, but I caught Jorma Kaukonen a couple of times last year doing his acoustic country blues thing. Very tasty, another old guy who doesn't appear to have lost a step.

Don't miss them. Jamming some, yes. But much of it will be awesome acoustic or electric blues. Hot Tuna is sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic and sometimes both in the same show. Water Song one of my favorites, have never tired of it. Jorma and Jack have been playing together now for over 50 years, since they were teenagers in the D.C. area in the 50's. IMHO the connection they have between themselves in guitar bass interaction is only matched by The Grateful Dead, the original ABB and current ABB. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

Gratefultwinz, You should definetly check out Hot Tuna. Different from the Dead but much the same in some ways. They are very blues oriented. Go see them and let us know what you think!

my other favourite psychedelic rock combo. Not a disappointment on those early albums. Hyper-space troopers. My fav clip is Saturday Afternoon at Woodstock - really captures the moment and never ceases to be powerful. "It's a time for growing, And a time for knowing love…" Moye: So true, Hot Tuna were super on that '98 Further Fest. Saw them in Toronto on Arlo's Birthday. Definitely a great band, not to be missed.

most DEFINITELY worth $25......caught them in seattle (yech) a few years ago in a joint called the firehouse or the engine house or sumpin' like that.the music was awesome but the venue was'nt. they charged us $25 for a one topping medium pizza. it was an ok pie but certainly not worth 25 bones.....so we ...uh......"liberated" the pan. i still have it and baked biscuits on it not 2 days ago.

Well now that it's pretty clear we're not getting a Fall Tour has anybody heard anything for the future? It worries me everyday to think something could happen that would prevent me from seeing The Dead ever again. Since 2003 I gave seen every single show possible and am just happy to see anything new come up on the 'Tour' page. Unfortunately I was only 10 years old in '95 and had nobody to introduce me. But anyway hoping for a 2010 Tour or possibly a New Years Show or something west coast in the winter. If anybody has heard anything respectable let me know!! Bobby and Mickey wrote this year that if they keep it up a NEW Album in inevitable!
