Of course it's Donna. I was at this show & I remember it was the day Garcia & Hunter got pulled over on their way to the show in a VW bug & Jerry got popped for "every controlled substance known to man" (according to Rolling Stone). They pulled up late and ran inside, they finally opened the doors & got a late start. Great show though! Garcia got sentenced to see a shrink & the shrinks' kid happened to go to the prep school I was at in NH that fall... I ended up w/backstage passes (my first!) that Jerry gave the shrink for the Boston Music Hall gigs the end of November that year!

    Weird! I wasn't there too!
Faith Hill sang this ditty on network TV a week or two ago on some country music show!I pulled this one up and gave it a listen and while I can kinda hear how someone might wonder, it sounds like Donna to me. This tune was new to the band in '73 and while this was not the first performance it sounds to me like they were still getting their legs under them on this one. (The versions later on in the spring and summer are more polished).

    well, I wasn't there
but there are certainly documented instances where Donna sang this fine Loretta Lynn classic, so I would lean to thinking she's singing unless someone more clued tells me otherwise.

Anybody have any idea who the female vocalist is on "You Ain't Woman Enough" in the first set? (Note the set list given above is incorrect.) I'm pretty sure she's not Donna. Great show by the way. Be sure to catch They Love Each Other in the 1st set.

On May 12, 2012 I was listening to just a great soundboard recording playback on GD Radio. I thought Cumberland was an unusual opener with Phil as the front man. Then when I read "Blake Wood's" story about Jerry n Bob Hunter getting delayed by the PO-Po it all made sense. This is the correct list from that GD Radio playback: Grateful Dead @ Springfield Civic Center Arena March 28, 1973 Set 1 Cumberland Blues Here Comes Sunshine Mexicali Blues Wave That Flag Beat It On Down The Line Loser Jack Straw Box Of Rain They Love Each Other El Paso Row Jimmy Around and Around Brown Eyed Women You Ain't Woman Enough Looks Like Rain China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider Set 2 Promised Land Loose Lucy Me & My Uncle Don't Ease Me In The Race is On Stella Blue Big River Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo Weather Report Suite Prelude > Dark Star > Eyes Of The World > Playing In The Band - encore - Johnny B. Goode

Donna indeed sang. Might have been the rowdiest Dead show I ever went to. The cops looked fierce. The audience was spirited to say the least. My last east coast Dead show. Next was Kezar, perhaps the least rowdy crowd I'd ever been in at a Dead show. "The West is the best".
