    Last Great American Whale
By: Lou Reed They say he didn't have an enemy his was a greatness to behold He was the last surviving progeny the last one on this side of the world He measured a half mile from tip to tail silver and black with powerful fins They say he could split a mountain in two that's how we got the Grand Canyon Last great American whale last great American whale Last great American whale last great American whale Some say they saw him at the Great Lakes some say they saw him off of Florida My mother said she saw him in Chinatown but you can't always trust your mother Off the Carolinas the sun shines brightly in the day the lighthouse glows ghostly there at night The chief of a local tribe had killed a racist mayor's son and he'd been on death row since 1958 The mayor's kid was a rowdy pig spit on Indians and lots worse The old chief buried a hatchet in his head life compared to death for him seemed worse The tribal brothers gathered in the lighthouse to sing and tried to conjure up a storm or rain The harbor parted, the great whale sprang full up and caused a hugh tidal wave The wave crushed the jail and freed the chief the tribe let out a roar The whites were drowned, the browns and reds set free but sadly one thing more Some local yokel member of the NRA kept a bazooka in his living room And thinking he had the chief in his sight blew the whale's brains out with a lead harpoon Last great American whale last great American whale Last great American whale last great American whale Well Americans don't care for much of anything land and water the least And animal life is low on the totem pole with human life not worth more than infected yeast Americans don't care too much for beauty they'll shit in a river, dump battery acid in a stream They'll watch dead rats wash up on the beach and complain if they can't swim They say things are done for the majority don't believe half of what you see and none of what you hear It's like what my painter friend Donald said to me "Stick a fork in their ass and turn them over, they're done" Send "Last Great American Whale" Ringtone to your Cell

As you approach, You become blinded for a few, Your nostrils become filled with the scent of dew, When you listen for an all unforgettable tune, You flash back to old days, Filled with wondrous haze, With loved ones and praise, You awake on the shores of that black muddy river, And realize, He’s come to take his children home.

    Desolation Row
Lyrics By: Bob DylanMusic By: Bob Dylan They're selling postcards of the hanging They're painting the passports brown The beauty parlor's filled with sailors The circus is in town In walks the blind commissioner They've got him in a trance One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker The other is in his pants And the riot squad they're restless They need somewhere to go As Lady and I look out tonight From Desolation Row Now Cinderella, she seems so easy "It takes one to know one," she smiles And puts her hands in her back pockets Bette Davis style And in walks Romeo, he's moaning "You belong to me I believe" And someone says, "You're in the wrong place, my friend (note 1) You better leave" And the only sound that you can hear After the ambulances go Is Cinderella sweeping up On Desolation Row Now Ophelia, she's neath the window For her I feel so afraid On her twenty-second birthday She already is an old maid To her, death is quite romantic She wears an iron vest Her profession's her religion Her sin is her lifelessness And though her gaze is fixed upon Noah's great rainbow She spend her time peeking in On Desolation Row Einstein disguised as Robin Hood With his memories in a trunk Passed this way an hour ago With his friend, a jealous monk He looked so immaculately frightful As he bummed a cigarette Then he went off sniffing drainpipes And reciting the alphabet Now you would not think to look at him But he was famous long ago For playing the electric violin On Desolation Row Now the moon is almost hidden (note 2) The stars are beginning to hide The fortune telling lady Has already taken all her things inside All except for Cain and Abel And the hunchback of Notre Dame Everybody is making love Or else expecting rain And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing He's getting ready for the show He's going to the carnival tonight On Desolation Row Doctor Filth, he keeps his world Inside of a leather cup And all his sexless patients They're all trying to blow it up Now his nurse, some local loser She's in charge of the cyanide hole And she also keeps the cards that read "Have mercy on his soul" They all play on the penny whistle You can hear them blow If you lean your head out far enough On Desolation Row Across the street they've nailed the curtains They're getting ready for the feast The Phantom of the Opera In the perfect image of a priest They're spoonfeeding Casanova To get him to feel more assured Then they'll kill him with self-confidence After poisoning him with words And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls "Get out of here if you don't know" Casanova is just being punished for going To Desolation Row Now at midnight all the agents And the superhuman crew They go and round up everyone That knows more than they do They take them to the facory Where the heart attack machine Is strapped across their shoulders And then the kerosene Is brought down from the castles By insurance men who go Make sure nobody is escaping To Desolation Row Praise be to Nero's Neptune The Titanic sails at dawn Everybody's shouting "Which side are you on?" And Ezra Pound and T.S.Eliot They're fighting in the captain's tower While calypso singers laugh at them And fishermen throw flowers Between the windows of the sea Where lovely mermaids flow And no one has to think too much About Desolation Row Yes I received your letter yesterday About the time the doorknob broke When you asked how I was doing Was that some kind of joke? All these people that you mentioned Yes I know them they're quite lame I had to rearrange their faces And give them all another name Right now I can't read so good Don't send me no more letters, no Not unless you mail them From Desolation Row Played by Bob Weir with the Grateful Dead from the mid-1980s, as well as with Ratdog and Weir/Wasserman. (1) this line is as Weir sings it (and as on the 'official' Dylan lyrics). But I recently heard Chris Smither do a great (if truncated) version where he sang "... you're in the wrong play my friend" which is a great variant. (2) Bob Weir misses out this verse on the version on "Postcards Of The Hanging." He includes it on the version on "Downhill From Here" - but note that in the original Dylan version it's the third verse not the fifth. Thanks to Tim Cahalane for clearing this up for me.

Ty Cobb eats corn on the cob like a slob.Named in the Hall of Fame as the greatest outfielder, an all American leader. It was the bottom of ninth, the score tied. When a towering pop fly, soared into the sky. In sight in step Ty went to catch the ball when something went terribly wrong. What's that smell the drunks in the bleachers yelled. Where'd it come from, was it you, it wasn't me they argued angrily. It curled their noses most unpleasantly. Ty Cobb dropped a pop fly who on earth could answer why? The winning run crossed the plate was it an error in judgement, played out his fate. When the equpiment manager had to wash his pants. That's when the rumor started, thats how the truth came to past. Ty Cobb dropped the ball, because he farted corn. They say it sounded like a bull horn. Did you poop in your pants? the reporter asked. "I just misplayed the ball, you can't blame me at all"

What the New Virgin Said to the Old Goat —for Henry Miller Don't get me started on how your writing (like lightning electrified Ben Franklin) lit my once extinguished wick, igniting long strings of sensations, then life sank in. No, don't let me tell how your purple prose (banned for decency's sake in fifty states) ripped my sense and resurrected a rose, which was propagated in Tropic's straits. And please don't fret me about hustling dough (not true grift, just soft fleece to foot a bill) as if only one of us came to know the poverty of the verb to fulfill. Now each day I live as art to master what once had been a fucking disaster.

Say it’s not happening; please say that it’s not true I’m definitely getting older and feeling kinda blue I stretch out in the morning to feel the strain of another day Leonard Cohen says it best “I ache where I used to play”. Driving to the CVS to buy a new bottle of pills Another attempt by the doctor to cure me of my ills The car behind sees my Jerry sticker and begins to cheer “Are you a Dead Head? We’ve been fans for 20 years ‘My Dad took me when I was little to so many of their shows Our whole family went to Chicago and Denver like it was twenty years ago.” The light turned green and off they went. I turned up the Landover ‘90 show with good old Jerry and Brent. Growing older is another stage, death another door, I have so much to look forward to... ...zillions of new releases from the Grateful Dead store. And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

Satellites beamingWhile the world is sleeping Unaware We continue to pollute Pumping chemicals Into the air Now we have encoded Matter vibration And a million conversations Pass through you But you still feel lonely Asking what kind of onion To buy standing in the store It's a small price to pay To wiggle the vibrations Fill them with useless Information and porn And now we work and toil Sweat and die So that Time Warner can decide Which electrons our eyes Will ride Everyone sleeps Satellite beams While baby dreams On her pillow at night I ride the waves To faraway lands where People still lie And when things get hard They fly Oh so sad that they closed The book Satellites beaming While the world is dreaming Dream you little dreamer Dream your little life away But up beyond Around the stairs Even where you are You need not care Just lift it up a little Then a little more The castle's keep A tower door The stars beyond A leap Wings will appear To sleep to sleep I will care for you My darling until you wake And when you pull your head up off the pillow near I will turn and smile And say Good morning dear

It's a painting not a raceWe'll all pass in and out of this together space Space in time But in Eternity, we are always all together In Eternity we are always all together We don't have to worry about it It's all written in the book We all stay together nobody falls away I never lost anybody not until this day So set your thought on kindness And ride the waves All the way home I'll be waiting for you baby I got here first But I have been all alone Waiting for you mama To lighten up my fire You burn so bright baby I will never feel cold So lets throw some paint on the wall And get started making it look pretty Dont worry about those people measuring up the walls They never ending painting anyway They're just learning how to stall So let's get on with it The eternity party never ends Stick it hard To the side of good Then there are no rules And we don't lose anybody on this trip We all will pass in and out of this together space Space in time But there is no need to worry We are already super fine. In eternity we are always all together We can confidently act that way here too Cause its da twufe.

Sometimes I feel like a nutsoftly humming to myself on a sunny morning It always hits me just like a rocket ship a sweet sweet missile of Love divine hitting the bullseye everytime I don't care anymore I just don't care About anything but Love Couldn't care less It is all funny to me Wild waving of arms And gesticulating Just how that word came Up to be used right when I wanted to say Gesticulating, there, there was an opportunity, That is really funny to me. It is all storm and fury Over nothing How upset do you want to become Over illusion It is unseemly and A waste of time Good time that could be spent Reforming the thought around Perfect Love. I give you Life Who gives you death? Not I I only give Life Everlasting.

Always free and sometimes chainedNow only free and no more chains It is mental slavery vs Mental discipline Who will win, will you decide Their sentence was up We should all be glad They won't be seen Any more in the prison yard Now they don't have to wear Grey with stripes No more; now They are dressed in Gold and white Purple and blue Saffron All the colors of eternity No longer the dust of dreams It's a jailbreak baby You've seen the scene Everybody without tickets Rushing the poor scared Ticket takers Always free and sometimes chained Now only free and no more chains We should all be happy We won't be seeing them In the prison yard No more

Walking It Off Sitting 'round the fire getting high Looking at the moon up in the sky The stars begin appearing The time for dreams is nearing Days like these I never want to die Walking up the trail through wilderness I watch the sun burn off the morning mist With mountain snow-fields shining I see a black bear dining I smile at the sun and pump my fist I take a little break among the pines Shade is getting scarce near timberline I give the dog a biscuit Wonder, should we risk it? Heavens just across the next divide Moving on we finally hit the pass And see blue lakes and meadows of green grass It's where I aim to go Two thousand feet below It's summer-time and I have found the path

I had gone out and bought a JVC camcorder with "one-touch" upload to U-tube so I could get videos of my dog and also record my songs in beautiful nature settings and post them here but after about a month of trying to upload to u-tube and never having it work I took the damn thing back. I thought the college had dvd burners but it was only a cd burner and I would have had to pay another $200 for a dvd burner. I really got depressed for a while after that but that's the way it goes I guess, at least there's a place for my lyrics. Sleep in the stars Don't you cry Dry your eyes on the wind La da da da

Back On The WagonG Well I'm back on the wagon again Yes I'm back on the wagon again 'Cause my morals they were sagging And my lame ass it was dragging so I'm Back on the wagon again Oh the wagon it goes rolling up the hill You know the wagon it goes rolling up the hill And when it gets near the summit That ol' wagon starts to plummet And it rolls back to the bottom of the hill The wagon it gets stuck down in the mud You see the wagon it be stuck down in the mud In a bog full of beer Lord please get me out of here And help me wash away all of the crud Well I'm back on the wagon again Oh I'm back on the wagon again Gave the wagon a shove Now it's powered by Love and I'm Back on the wagon again Back on the wagon yeah On the wagon again Back on the wagon

From an Old Testament rootA Buddhist trunk did grow With branches of Islam, Christianity, and LSD. Sprouting New Testament leaves, Wisdom brought forth the fruit of Universal Love, Set to music, an eternal tone. I shall walk the sad streets of this lonely world Sharing an inward smile Needing no education To be understood. I shall walk these sad streets With a Love no hate can reach Until my wick runs low Then I shall bid adieu And say anon, anon, And be gone On the Whispering wind That shakes the leaves When you remember me.

Attics of my Life Lyrics By: Robert Hunter In the attics of my life, full of cloudy dreams unreal. Full of tastes no tongue can know, and lights no eyes can see. When there was no ear to hear, you sang to me. I have spent my life seeking all that's still unsung. Bent my ear to hear the tune, and closed my eyes to see. When there was no strings to play, you played to me. In the book of love's own dream, where all the print is blood. Where all the pages are my days, and all the lights grow old. When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me, you flew to me. In the secret space of dreams, where I dreaming lay amazed. When the secrets all are told, and the petals all unfold. When there was no dream of mine, you dreamed of me.

Flower Children I went down to the General Store To see what's going down It's up above the river's shore With mountains all around There's horseshoes and bar-b-ques And Blackberry pie And when she looked at me My oh my Underneath the Maple trees I took her hand To the swimming hole we walked Naked we swam Washing off the dusty day Feeling revived Looks like there's a full-moon on the rise Summer breezes blowing A wild river flowing You're like a flower Opening to light Back up to the General Store To watch the band A knock-knocking on Heaven's door We dance upon the land And when the drummers Call down thunder You touch my lips Next thing I know We're lost in a kiss Afterwards we take a drive Up to the old Lookout Never feeling so alive With so little doubt Moonlight escapades Shooting stars all over the place One couple face to face with love Summer breezes blowing A mountain meadow glowing You're like a flower Opening to light Summer breezes blowing A mountain meadow glowing You're like a flower Opening to life

people dis ol' Neil, and it's certainly true that he veers into self-parody on occasion, especially in the '70s, but he also wrote some of the best songs EVER.

Thought it was interesting that he wrote thatmost beautiful love song to love in 1969, 40 years has only seemed to make it sweeter. I shall be mocked by my three fans, but I am planning to add some Neil songs to my active song folder. Corinna > I am, I said > Eternity > Kentucky Woman sounds nice to me. : ) the guy who, when everyone sat down for "My Brother Esau", would jump up and dance like a dancing fool. I admit sheepishly. Particular favorites: Kentucky Woman, I'm a Believer (double whammy since I'm in love with the Monkees version), Solitary Man...though it took Johnny Cash's version of Solitary Man to open my ears.

also Cracklin' Rosie. And perhaps most of all, the version of Sweet Caroline that's on Love at the Greek. I'm definitely ambivalent about the Jonathan Livingston Seagull material. On the one hand, self-parody personified. On the other: some of the songs manage to rise above it.

Walkin with Harlan PepperDown the Motown Mountain road Clouds hug the tips of the mountain Peaks all around Fog in the valley down below He likes to run on the downhills I am learning to like it too Busting in the cabin door Both out of breath, he's Headed for the food bowl Baby hands me a warm mug And we listen to the public radio It's an old hunting cabin in the woods With purple trim and moose on the wall Right down from the swimming hole Dig my heels into the cool mud Still left over from the flood We see our image upright Then we see it flipped Depending which side of the Silverware we look at ourselves in Roasting mutantly large chicken legs Over the campfire, it was funny The bridge is down for repair Now all the traffic is racing down This lazy gravel track So the sheriff set up a speed trap Right across the lane, and The wind kept blowing the smoke Right into his cruiser. He took it in stride for about A half hour, then it drove him off It was funny smoking out the bear Everybody on the road has Set out the cutest little signs To say slow down Slow down so the kids can play Llama dancing, a lemonade stand Yo!, Hear ye, all different sorts Of signs to say Slow down so the kids can play Slow down so the kids can play Slow down so the kids can play

Watching everyoneGo through the same thing Thinking that they are the only ones It might make it easier If we would just talk to each other Or wordlessly hug each other At least it would ease the pain Of endless cycles round the sun Did you know the way I told you I showed you It is all that I can do The rest is up to you To catch the mass trance lie And wake up to heaven In your lap purring On your lawn chirping In the trees singing You never even knew. You were full of dead lines After care and street signs Telling you where you can go I will start walking now The other way You are free to follow Or wallow In your worst fears You are not fooling anyone But you Everyone else is laughing As they try to keep you from Yourself Trying to punish every one But it just keeps on falling Up on you Pick your self up and let's Take a walk around the pond It won't take too long It won't take Too long. Watching everyone Go through the same thing Thinking that they are the only ones It might make it easier If you would just talk to each other Or pick a day and everybody Hug each other.

Oh, when you hearThat whistle blow Over on the other Side of the hill Then you will know That I love you still And you will know That I always will When the whistle blows Its sad refrain It's only saying Did I ever know your name? Oh, when you hear That whistle blow Oh when you hear That whistle blow Oh, when you hear That whistle blow Over on the other Side of the hill Then you will know That I love you still And you will know That I always will Oh when you hear That whistle blow Oh when you hear That whistle blow. {Bluegrass runs in C--- for Stephanie]

Tunnel of Love by Bruce Springsteen Fat man sitting on a little stool Takes the money from my hand while his eyes take a walk all over you Hands me the ticket smiles and whispers good luck Cuddle up angel cuddle up my little dove We'll ride down baby into this tunnel of love I can feel the soft silk of your blouse And them soft thrills in our little fun house Then the lights go out and it's just the three of us You me and all that stuff we're so scared of Gotta ride down baby into this tunnel of love There's a crazy mirror showing us both in 5-D I'm laughing at you you're laughing at me There's a room of shadows that gets so dark brother It's easy for two people to lose each other in this tunnel of love it ought to be easy ought to be simple enough Man meets woman and they fall in love But the house is haunted and the ride gets rough And you've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above if you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love Copyright © Bruce Springsteen (ASCAP)

The Ballad of Poker Jim Poker Jim he said his prayers Then saddled up his horse They trotted down the Applegate Following its course Over the hills to Jacksonville He checks in the Hotel With pocket-full of nuggets They always treat him well He sees Benny the barber And Tom the tailor too He comes out looking smarter Then heads for the saloon The doors went swinging open And Jim he rang the bell The women looked and whispered The men let out a yell Soon Jim's at the table Shuffling the deck He eyes the competition Their "tells" they will regret The cards are down and dirty Raises build the pot Jim is getting thirsty The day is getting hot chorus Poker Jim Needs jacks or better And aces to win They're callin' him He lays down his hand And rakes it all in Poler Jim The Spirits they whisper To you in the wind To go "all in" Just play what you're dealt And never give in Back out on the streets A rider rushes into town Someone robbed the Stage of gold And gunned the driver down A posse soon was forming The men were looking mean Charlie Buck was there Along with Cook and Green And when the sherrif ordered They started in pursuit And tracked the desperate killers To a hideout in Red Buttes Poker Jim dismounted With rifle in his hand He knew where they were hiding This was their last hand And as the sun was setting The bells of justice rang The end had finally come For the Cameron brothers gang As Poker Jim rode off He waved his hat and smiled Take it easy boys I'll see you the next time! Poker Jim Needs jacks or better And aces to win They're callin' him He lays down his hand And rakes it all in Poker Jim The Spirits they whisper To you in the wind To go "all in" Just play what you're dealt And never give in

The Ballad of Poker Jim Poker Jim he said his prayers Then saddled up his horse They trotted down the Applegate Following it's course Over the hills to Jacksonville He checks in the Hotel With pocket-full of nuggets They always treat him well He sees Benny the barber And Tom the tailor too He comes out looking smarter Then heads for the saloon The doors went swinging open And Jim he rang the bell The women looked and whispered The men let out a yell Soon Jim's at the table Shuffling the deck He eyes the competition Their "tells" they will regret The cards are down and dirty Raises build the pot Jim is getting thirsty The day is getting hot chorus Poker Jim Needs jacks or better And aces to win They're callin' him He lays down his hand And rakes it all in Poker Jim The Spirits they whisper To you in the wind To go "all in" Just play what you're dealt And never give in Back out on the streets A rider rushes into town Someone robbed the Stage of gold And gunned the driver down A posse soon was forming The men were looking mean Charlie Buck was there Along with Cook and Green And when the Sheriff ordered They started in pursuit And tracked the desperate killers To a hideout in Red Buttes Poker Jim dismounted With rifle in his hand He knew where they were hiding This was their last hand And as the sun was setting The bells of justice rang The end had finally come For the Cameron brothers gang As Poker Jim rode off He waved his hat and smiled Take it easy boys I'll see you the next time! Poker Jim Needs jacks or better And aces to win They're callin' him He lays down his hand And rakes it all in Poker Jim The Spirits they whisper To you in the wind To go "all in" Just play what you're dealt And never give in Ratdog coming to Jacksonville Friday inspired me to write that one

Stay on the silly sideSilly side of the street You just have to watch Where you put your feet Stay on the silly side Silly side of the street It's no joke to Skip a beat If you lose track Of your funny bone The world don't look Too sweet So far from home Stay on the silly side Silly side of the street Let the serious ones Take all the heat Stay on the silly side Silly side of the street That's where all The people are Who you will Want to meet Stay on the funny side Live on the sunny side Stay on the silly side Silly side of the street There ain't no real reason To get stressed There never has been The first problem In heaven So stay on the silly side Walk on the sunny side Keep to the funny side Stay on the silly side Silly side of the street.

Drove the coolest coastPast ancient Redwoods Along a wild river Ended up in Wilderville Harmonized with the summer breezes on the Applegate Joined the dream team Slept on Panther Flat under a blazing sky full of stars, burning off the darkness Drove the lazy river road from Reedsport to Drain Watched barefoot Bobby make us smile Pissed him off taking too many pics of him and the dancing bear Sorry Senor A Hard Rain was so beautiful that soft tears flowed from my eyes The Dark Star shimmered with radiance The boys were being stellar and all hands contributed worthily to the stew Jerry stared back at me from the cover of the songbook A beautiful young woman named Sheila came up to my car to see if I would buy a sticker for a buck to help a childrens charity she supports She gave me a warm hug I gave her an agate too Her sticker says: "Yes!" What Your Inner Heart is Searching for Does Exist! Had the feeling I'm just a poor pathetic crippled lonsome loser Decided it's better than nothing, keep trying A certain song meant everything to me

Live The Dream The last days of summer Before their out of reach We're going for a ride Time to hit the beach We'll do a little cookin' Maybe get a little fried And have a lot of fun Forget the world for a while Oh Friday come and set me free To live the dream We're cruisin' 101 Rollin at 55 I ain't in no hurry Just want to make it there alive The gals are in bikinis And sunshine sets the mood I go from feeling tiny To like a surfer in a tube (bridge) As the wave curls above You're the one I'm thinking of Together we can be so free To live the dream Here comes a tsunami A tidal wave of Love It's time to come together It's gonna be a flood The sun is going down The lights are coming up And all the world's a stage For filling empty cups Oh Friday come and set me free To live the dream

Stuman, you are one lucky guy. If I EVER refer to my wife as "the Mrs", it's like there's a laser beam direct from her eyes into my brain. In fact, I can feel it now!! ARRRGGGHH!! Shine on, folks.

I'm the little wax musicianIn the little wax museum Over in the corner Playing my little wax saxophone Sitting on its little wax stand Spitting out the pretty wax colors Fat and shiny yellows greens and blues And as the wax cools it turns into porcelain spots Upon the silk knotted linen Resting atop the little wax divan. I play all your usual numbers Like any street musician would But I am busy working on my tone Little wax notes are a dime a dozen I can only afford eight at a time So I stretch them out in the moment Enjoying each moment and note for its own self Digging deep inside each note To find its true tone I am the little wax musician In the little wax museum Over in the corner Playing my little wax saxophone On its little wax stand Every instrument has its role Oh the happiness to skillfully play my part Sometimes just one note From the little wax saxophone Can make me cry And break my heart The good way.

Giggle proofI can't be started My face is stone It's not funny Don't even try to make me laugh No, I'm not ticklish Get away from me with that This is serious stuff No time for smiles It's not like there's a full moon Or we've been driving for hours We're just sitting here You and me And there is nothing funny about it Why are you smiling? What's so funny to you? You look like I am saying the funniest things Can you explain to me What is so ridiculous to you?? Leaning over the car like that Talking about apple orchards It all became so funny suddenly I couldn't help myself, sorry And when you fell into the stream Retrieving the ball And got stuck in the mud And I had to pull you out I am sorry for laughing And that time we were Faced out in the winter snow Twinkles all around And you were laying on that tree limb Stretched out over the almost frozen pond I remember the reflection and the tree Forming a doorway of eternity That I walked through Never to return Behind me, I heard a splash As you fell in I am so sorry I laughed On our walk back to the warmth But all the other times I am not sorry for It was good laughs But this isn't funny at all So stop laughing I'm serious Why are you still laughing? I mean it This is serious. Giggle proof I can't be started My face is stone It's not funny Don't even try to make me laugh. No, I'm not smiling. I'm not. Okay, maybe a little. Just about the pond thing, though. Sorry. It was funny!

There's a bright, golden haze on the meadowThere's a bright, golden haze on the meadow. The corn is as high as an elephant's eye And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky. Oh, what a beautiful Mornin' Oh, what a beautiful day. I've got a beautiful feelin' Everything's goin' my way. All the cattle are standin' like statues All the cattle are standin' like statues They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by But a little brown mav'rick is winkin' her eye Oh, what a beautiful Mornin' Oh, what a beautiful day. I've got a beautiful feelin' Everything's goin' my way. All the sounds of the earth are like music All the sounds of the earth are like music The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree An' a ol' weepin' willer is laughin' at me Oh, what a beautiful Mornin' Oh, what a beautiful day. I've got a beautiful feelin' Everything's goin' my way. Oh, what a beautiful day!

Sorry, marye, that you have to clean up my posts, with all you have on your platethis week. Nice catch, though. I guess Hammerstein gets the lyrical credit. From Wikipedia "Oklahoma! is the first musical written by composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II." I haven't been in Oklahoma since the 70s, but I did not see any elephants at that time. I did catch a ride in a nice old Ford Mustang, however. and 'starsleeper', I love reading your poems.

Cat naps under bird clockMarking time 'clack clack' Morning fire plays a waltz Upon the smoky glass Cello draws a human voice Imploring Dog is backwards Under the covers In between Flights of fancy Silence but for the Comforting snap From the bed of coals And the clack clack clack Of the bird clock On the cabin wall

Out of the night burning with lightTrain shining black, I wont look back, life is running Hoping some day someone will say I got it made Pull up the shade, let the sun in Down on the night train, I feel the starlight steal away Use up a lifetime looking for the break of day Border patrol looking through me Towns without names all look the same, I hear crying Paris to Spain, countries in pain Caught up in flight, feeling the sight, Europe dying Rolling on, hear the wheels singing, fever keep coming on so strong My ticket paid, trying to fade I hope I get there not just somewhere I was leaving Out in the dark all the wolves bark I fold my arms try to keep warm by believing Hard rain following on, cold wheels moving on Everybody they're so alone down on the night train 1980 F.S.
