This was the only time I saw The Dead perform live. (I was out of the country from 1976-2001.) It is a show that I will never forget. The boys were really at the top of their game. So much of what was great about Europe '72 was in evidence at this show. To answer Rambledog's question, Jerry played for 7 hours. The NRPS set was 2 hours, The Dead did a 3 hour set, then took a break for close to an hour, and then played for 2 more hours. Here we are, nearly 38 years later, and my kids are into The Dead in a big way. My oldest (a girl - 13) can hum along to the solo of the Dec 77 version of The Music Never Stops note for note!

What a place to see the Dead for the first time. East Town was a very small old theatre. All the seats were removed on the main floor and people just milled around all night. At any given time you could walk up to the front of the theatre and lean on the stage. Jerry played pedal steel with NRPS that night. Both NRPS and the Dead felt like they played for ever. I would be interested in how much time Garcia spent playing that night. I went to the show with my friend Bob (Le) Mongeau. I hope he is well.
