Grateful Dead

Got to see this at the Felt Forum and made by best tapes to date,I thought this might be the wave of the future with simulcast and all but it did'nt catch on I guess.But no hassles,no lines,no spilling beer on my equipment just some great heads with a lot of room to dance and an amazing sound that I can't imagine it could have been better at RCMH.But I wasn't there so WTF do I know.

I was there. Excellent setlist. Franken and Davis were hosts. It was my first date with my (now) wife. A great show.

i watch on big screen in chicago @ the granada theatre i believe, have to pull out the ticket stubs to be sure, made magic tollhouse cookies and past them out to everybody . fantastic show

RODGER ALLINSON i truely loved gettin an acoustic set before the reg first and second sets this was a great show as were most of the radio city run

This acoustic set was the bomb, rest of the show musically was okay. It was my first introdcution to Franken.

All 3 of the Radio City shows I caught were real nice.......this one was special b/c, at 17 to catch 2 at radio City was enough.....this one was simulcast in my hometown at South Mountain Arena in W.O., NJ and went there with much of the "crew" from home. had to do that b/c me and a few buds had just been caught driving with some doobage and beers trying to catch the midnight movie of the ead movie..........those were the DAZE!

I have always counted this as if I had attended this show because I saw it on the big screen in Chicago. After the initial orientation, I had the feeling that it was live and there was no screen. Between sets was a costume contest with the winner receiving tickets for the New Year Show--I thought that the Jerry Garcia look-alike that won didn't deserve to win as much as several other costumes. By the way, it was at the Aragon Ballroom--not the Granada, but you were close.

Well after one of these shows I met a friend on the street and he gave me a tank. We pile into the back of my friends van and try to make our way back to the island. After about 10 minutes the driver respectfully requests that we hold off on the tank until we reach home. The laughing was so intense that he could not drive. These shows were so totally amazing considering acoustic sets, lots of dancing room and the historic Radio City Music Hall. We really put the rock into Rocketts.

After waiting in line all night for RCMH TIX I was rewarded with 3 of the best shows I've ever seen. NYC tourists saw deadheads waiting on line and thought either we were homeless and city let us sleep there or there was was some sort of tv show we were waiting for or we were some sort of cult. They were right. Hell's Angels dancing in aisles right behind us. A tour of tours

The setlist was awfull....the playing was tired and lazy. By now the acoustic was preditcable. COME ON...it's HALLOWEEN with Franken and Davis.....stir it up boys!!!! Open with Werewolves of London.....Pull SOMETHING NEW out of yer acoustic hats!! Does anyone remember that the Bob Weir band played the NEXT DAY at RCMH???????

All the shows at Radio City were unbelievable!!! The venue was the perfect place for the acoustic sets!

Spent Halloween night that year watching this live on a huge screen with a great sound system at Washington University in St. Louis. The acoustic set was ABSOLUTELY EPIC! The electric show ROCKED! Brown-Eyed Women, Ramble On Rose, Saint, FRANKLIN'S, NFA, Stella, GDTRFB - WHEW!! Franken was still funny then! It was the BEST Halloween ever!

Saw this show ,or should I say bits and pieces of this show on pbs. I would really like to see the entire show. Would it be available om dvd?

set was tippy for 80 but the show was well played esp the acoustic, i caught the last three shows at6 radio city after hitching in from happy valley (penn state) these shows were the reason i dropped out, needed to catch more and pennstate too remote, eventually went back to school and followed the boys thru thick and thin, and regret every show i missed, dont regret making any, i was a little hypercritical from seeing "too many shows" i was wrong you cant see too many, anyway stll love the scenic route, these were about my 30th shows and really started me rolling miss u all esp jerry stay deadicated db

We drove up from Nashville, where we were in college, (I loved it and ending up staying and I am still in Nashville). I grew up just north of New York City and never told my mom I was up there to this day. One of the guys I went with was from Rowaton, CT and we stayed at his house. Frank Zappa was playing his usual run of show over Halloween at the Palladium. Just about everyone on the train was going to the Dead or Zappa. I don't remember if it was going or coming, but on one leg there was an elderly couple on the train that had no idea what to make of all of us. We were already catching a buzz before we left and left our Halloween costumes in the car at the train station. Our plan was to see the Dead and then Zappa on the 1st but we tripped way too hard at the Dead show and ended up staying in Rowaton and having a clam bake with lobsters, steamers and all. We then left for Nashville Sunday night and arrived in Nashville just in time to go straight to 8 am classes Monday morning. Franken and Davis were a big bummer. We all hated having them blabbing during the breaks and they weren't funny at all. It was kind of a buzz kill. Al Franken was, is and always will be a big, fat idiot. The show was not the best Grateful Dead show I have seen but we really wanted to see the acoustic set. We had a great time though and it certainly wasn't a bad show. It's nice to be able to relive it with tapes and videos.

I saw this closed circuit from the St. Paul Civic Center in St Paul MN.

Fantastic show, so many memories ! Drinkin from a wine bota at the skating rink infront of Rockafeller Center, Radio City was unfreakin believable, if I remember they had a giant blow up gorilla standing upon the marque. We were pretty well blotted up by the time we get inside and what's there......freaking red velvet with gold trim everywhere ! Things were melting ! Franken & Davis ( what ever happened to Davis ? ) openend and did skits between sets, one thing they said that night still sticks with me " the veins in your face are waving like sea snakes ! " I remember people in costumes but one in particular,there was this guy who looked like Jerry walking though the crowd but he had a guitar going though his body. He caused quite a stir ....I wonder to this day how he ever sat down ! The show itself was a masterpiece, a historic accoustic set followed by a solid show. It was one of those days that you never forget. I only wish there were more.

I hid from my Mother who was driving around looking for me at Jack's music store in Red Bank, NJ. I was first in line to get tix and the shows were sold out by the 6th or 7th person in line. I was the only person that got a pair of Halloween tickets and a pair for Saturday the 25th , before they were sold out. Radio City Music Hall was intimate and elegant.The acoustic set was magical, the Halloween "Space" was over the top and melted into Fire on the Mountain.The slideshow and Halloween projections on the walls behind the stage at RCMH were stunning. I saw the show on 10/23 at RCMH and then saw the simulcast at the old Calderone Concert hall in Hempstead, NY. I remember the first few songs had no video, but audio, or was it the other way around. I think think there was no video. Does anyone remember this? I also count this as a show attended, it really felt like I was there. Wow, only 28 years ago!

I, too, saw this show via a simulcast, although back then they called it 'closed circuit'. I am posting the newspaper advertisement from the Newark Star-Ledger here in the fan photos section... I don't really count this as a show I attended, but it was close enough... Great stuff. I bet those that consider it a letdown would give their left earlobe to be there again. I would. Gim

What kind of odds could you have gotten on Halloween night 1980 that Al Franken of Franken & Davis would one day become a United States Senator !!!

Looking over the set lists and thinking about the eight shows, waiting three days in line outside RCMH, hanging with friends old and new.....this was one magical week. Would love to see these shows released as a proper boxed set.

I saw the show via simulcast at the Tower Theater. It was extremely disappointing. Not because of their performance, but because a speaker blew early in the show and buzzing for the rest of the night. Basically, after that happened the sound sucked. If I considered this a show that I really attended, that part of the experience would have made it the worst for me.

I remember not getting tickets to RCMH so we wound up catching the show at a simulcast. Acoustic set was awesome. I was totally freaking as the background kept changing color...I didn't know what was real and what wasn't. Almost as fun as being there.

before the show hanging out across the street at the exxon building passing around the koolaid. things were getting strange. went in and security took the empty koolaid container. after the show it was on a table to claim but by then was to paranoid to take it back. last night of acoustic set and equipment issues forced instrumentals to start the show. expectations were high on Halloween. first set was ok. during the break franken n davis was different. glad it was a one time thing. don't remember much but when they asked a head her favoritr song and she said sugar magnolia I knew weren't going to see that song... second set was ok. uncle johns encore was very appropriate.
