To this day, I love the sound of breaking glass..... Robert Johnson and a little Funkadelic are always welcome..... Just thought of it, we need a little NRBQ......and Little Feat..... Thanks for playing, we will have quite the eclectic collection.... I hear Geo is going through his collection of Gregorian Chants...... ;-)

    OK, I’ll take the bait. But should I list what I think is best, or what I would really want to listen to, or base it on what I want you to think of me? I have used a semi-objective measure: records that I have moved 15 times and therefore evidently cannot do without. If I can borrow Oat's David Crosby, then it leaves me with: 1. Nick Lowe, Pure Pop for Now People. The master of the form, cranking out songs that always make me smile. Note for insiders, this was originally released in the UK under the title “Jesus of Cool”, but there was concern that title would offend American audiences. 2. Van Morrisson and Chieftains, Irish Heartbeat These tunes revitalize my Irish bones in a way that is necessary on a periodic basis. 3. Funakdelic, Uncle Jam Wants You It may not be their best album, but it is mine. I wish I could use the better title of another album of theirs: Free Your Mind... and Your Ass Will Follow 4. W.A. Mozart, Clarinet Concerto, KV 622 The human mind has never produced anything finer. But if it is to be a long stay on the island, I would take instead Bach’s Goldberg Variations 5. Robert Johnson, Collected Works Because there will be blue days even on an island. I don’t think one GD album would ever suffice, and I have internalized that rhythm and vibe; I can always jam in my head. But if there was room for one more, it would be Anthem of the Sun; I dusted off my old vinyl copy of this after seeing the crazy set list from Santa Clara, and re-discovered how smoking hot that is. Hard to believe a record label released that in 1968.

    Hey there Katniss...good to see you... Very nice selections and I get them all....gotta love the man in black, the Lavender moon, Dylan...yeah those are the same album, gotta have some reggae skanking in that island....can't argue with reckoning, not a bad track and not only does it soothe but it begs a smile and a sing along, since you're bringing a cat I will allow the Heads..... Take care, don't be a stranger.... I prefer Blue Kentucky Girl, bought it for my dad when it came out...was his favorite.... Oh well.... That's Otis! ;-) Now, Take the Highway..... .....and, I know.....

    Work has me totally consumed! But, I miss Jerry. I miss rgr, and I can't resist this one. My list is in flux (and some might violate the rules), but right now it stands at... 1) Reckoning. It soothes my soul, every damn time. 2) Blood on the Tracks/Desire, Dylan. As previously stated, in my mind these are one (and, I cheat.) 3) At Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash 4) Kiko, Los Lobos 5) Uprising, Bob Marley 6) Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads (did I mention that I cheat?) Love to you all... oh, gosh. And then there's Emmy Lou's Red Dirt Girl...

    @on an Island.....
    Ok, here we go. After much time and consideration I have reduced my musical selections for the desert island to a mere five commercial releases. This was not an easy task and at times felt like I was favoring one old friend at the expense of another. To me albums are like friends to us and over time become an extension of and help define who we are. My selections are not based on individual songs on albums per se, rather on the combination of the content of said albums, their historic meaning to me and more importantly the feeling I get when I still listen to them. I’m a lyrics guy, and good lyric coupled with passionate perfoming is what I look for and continue going back to.I will start with Neil Young. Growing up, I hated him, his voice, his sloppy guitar work, the excessive feedback. Well in 1981 I met Elaine. She is a folkie, and loves Neil, Joni and Jackson amongst many others. She loves to sing and play his songs on guitar, because they are 3 chord simple and easy to master. After living under the same roof for 34 years with a diehard Neil fan and accompanying her to a handful of solo and Crazy Horse shows, I’ve come to realize that he ain’t so bad. He is a very accomplished songwriter, a male Joni Mitchell in my eyes. My motivation for taking a Neil album, is if I'm on that island alone, I’d want a lasting memory of Elaine there. My choice is Time Fades Away…a live disc from 1973, it is recorded in a raw fashion with his band at the time, the Stray Gators. It is sad, passionate and heartfelt., released right about the time Neil would self destruct. To this day he has not reissued it, he said in an interview it brings back too many painful memories. The title track and Don't Be Denied are personal favorites along with Journey Thru the Past. I have always admired Roger Waters, he is aloof, dark, and insecure and writes from the heart and his own paranoid mind. The thing is, he knows he is messed up. As a shrink, I applaud that honesty. After Pink Floyd folded he released a solo album, the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. It is not an easy listen, but I get lost in the music and the words. It doesn’t hurt that Clapton and Andy Fairweather Low are on guitar. I saw it performed live in 1984, and it remains one of the most memorable concert experiences of my life. Roger bares his soul about what a screw up he is and how he can not maintain a single healthy relationship in his life, personal or professional. Having grown up in New York City I spent many a summer weekend on the Jersey shore, not vacationing but barhopping with friends. I remember seeing a young Bruce Springsteen. The memories evoked by Bruce and his storytelling make this a must have. While his debut album has a special place in my heart, I’m going with Nebraska, it is a bareboned, albeit poorly recorded emotional testament to ones choices and their subsequent consequences with the ultimate hope of redemption. As a kid I was addicted to FM radio, and in NYC the only true options were WNEW and WLIR, luckily both stations kept this British prog band in constant rotation. My fourth selection is Live at Carnegie Hall by Renaissance. I’m a sucker for a good looking woman with a 5 octave voice. Every song on this disc is a masterpiece to me, and I never tire of hearing it. It is inspirational, ethereal and uplifting. My final selection happens to be my favorite recording of all time! If any of you have experienced unrequited love in their lifetime, then 'nuff said. Eric Clapton and Duane Allman sat down with members of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett’s band to record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. A two disc, blues, booze and smack filled jam session of Eric pouring his heart out over his love obsession at the time, Patti Boyd Harrison. The beauty of music and pain in his voice suggest an emotional catharsis....he kicked heroin soon after this. Oh there are many more....but if all I had were these five...I'd be content.

Saratoga is on pre-sale now as well. Go to Dead & Co page, click on tickets for Saratoga, click on citi card pre-sale , you need a code, the first 6 digits on a citi card, then you can buy up to 4 tix. I just got two for $99.00 for orchestra. They have higher priced packages that require no code of any kind. Alpine on sale now with citi card or packages

We were planning on road tripping Atlanta to the 3 in FL, New Orleans and Albuquerque based on that bogus tour date list that floated around last month. Had hotels booked along the whole route. I was kinda bummed with the actual tour announcement. It's like they don't want a bunch of aging hippies following them around in dilapidated dusses. Well we have overcome the disappointment and will just road trip it from LA to Boulder! Looking forward to seeing you all there. ☮ my brothers and sisters, gob

Yeah, that list had a lot of us scrambling in many directions for sure. Spent about an hour today canceling hotel and plane reservations for Miami, Tampa, New Orleans and Albuquerque. . . Oh well, we'll all just have to treat this as a virtual group road trip. Those who manage to get to shows just need to be sure to provide visuals and commentary for the rest of us. Maybe Tami'll make a scrapbook for us!?. Hey GeogottheSunshineDaydreamerwebsitelastyearmeister be sure to let me know when our website's 1st year's up so I can renew it this time. . . It's that time of the year, I've been itching for a Spring Tour, but it is not to be. Thirty three years ago tonight the boys closed out their run at the Knick, played their last Casey Jones there on 3/27. Thirty six years ago Branford sat in at Nassau, and oh what an Eyes that was. (Apologies to David Byrne). I can't help but relive those moments in my head. Like it was yesterday. The Daydreamers bus has fewer riders these days, especially since the hype of FTW is firmly planted in the rear view and slowly fading out of sight. But the road goes on forever. I'll give credit to Brother Gregg for that gem. It's kinda cool that kind folks at dead.net continue to acknowledge and affirm our journey. We even made that last newsletter. Who'd a thunk it? So what say we put away our dynguses and pussy willows for another year and raise a glass to Jerry and the boys. Here's hoping for many more years of health, magic, fun and friendship. If you get the inkling, feel free to take the wheel and you know the company on ba dus is always cool and the coffee is always hot. Hey Sarge, I got one more silver dollar, so head over to that jukebox. “You know what I want to hear. … You played it for her, you can play it for me!” “…Well, I don’t think I can remember…” “If she can stand it, I can! Play it!” (Sarge plays ‘As Time Goes By.’) Here's looking at you, kid. Ahhhhh, you know, this is a damn fine cup of coffee! :-)

Well said, rrrrgrrrr! The last year really shot by, but what a year it was! Certainly July was the highlight but the run up to the shows was a unique and enlightening experience that displays the power of a common spirit that comes from unlikely events and unexpected sources. Just the other day I was talking to my brother about Cichlids--a convo that may have never happened without the influence of Greg. How many times have I started a sentence with "last summer in Chicago" or exclaimed "you should have seen this rainbow that appeared out of nowhere"? Hopefully, there will be some reconnection this summer on tour with D & Co. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to meet all of you and look forward to turning Too next year!

I’ve also got the fever with plans for Noblesville, Alpine x2, and Warren’s Jerry tribute in suburban Chicago (plus a couple of Phish shows at Wrigley). It’s unrealistic to expect FTW-level anticipation and I wouldn’t mind some Spring shows to fill the gap but there’s a lot of great music coming our way. The sun is shining and da bus rolls on.

So I take a break and who should appear out of thin air but a friend of the devil and the chick with the sticks. What's this bus coming to anyway? Welcome back 88 and Miami, long time no see. It seems like the tin foil cloak of invisibility and Feel the Bern stickers didn't fool either of you. It's good to see that OatJeff, ASL, Geeky, Boo Boo, Loblaw, TFonts and mkav have found their way home as well. You all know the drill, sit back, relax, pour yourself a cup of coffee and smile, smile, smile. I see the state line is just a mile ahead. Where are we anyway Sarge? The State of Confusion? Makes sense. Remember, if you get confused, listen to the music play. Turn that one up, please. Happy April Fools Day! She's a Black Magic Woman trying to make a devil outta me....

Good to see the wordsmiths, poets and ne'er-do-well Daydreamers are on their best behavior, and I mean that in a most positive way, especially you over there tuning the accordion. The plays on words by you rhyming Simons and Simonettes reminds me of that epic show in '78 when all were smiling and carrying on. It is obvious that no-one is any the worse for wear over the winter season, and all seem to be ready to tear it up. Word is that puppers can't contain his excitement, and guess what? The feeling is mutual... and who woulda thunk it.

You know darn well that we requested a special rendition of Mollie B at her finest. For all you who really really miss the accordion, and we know you are out there, it is time to share a secret passion shared by more than a few daydreamers. Yes, we are speaking of the polka, as our esteemed dus briver alluded to in his earlier post, first below written. Now, for your edification and enjoyment,I'd like to introduce a new performer to many, "Mollie B". Mollie Busta, popular performer from the Jim Busta Band and Squeezebox, is host of the weekly RFD-TV Polka show, the "Mollie B Polka Party". The one-hour program featuring the nation's top polka bands... produced on location at music festivals from around the country. Lest you think you've missed the doat, or dus as it may be, there is a four day show right here in the heart of Texas, in the hamlet of Ennis (right down the road from my abode) at the end of the month. Guaranteed to entertain even the most jaded, tickets are available for the four-day run..at a bargain price of 20 bucks per person, per day, reduced for the rugrats to 5 bucks a head. Camping is available at a nearby Walmart lot. Get your tickets early, before they sell out, at http://store.rfdtv.com/product-p/10001.htm. All the Daydreamers worth their salt should head this way, and get ready for a party. When it comes to talent, you can't beat good ol RFD...and Polka. Thanks to one and all for your anticipated participation....we'll leave the light on for ya....no fooling!

This time last year we were all freakin' out on quests for tickets. There was only one venue (Santa Clara wouldn't be announced until April 10). We were scrambling and trying to help each other. Things more or less worked out, although I wish I'd made an effort to go to the Levis Stadium shows. Now, for the most part, we've calmly decided whether we're going to any of the Dead & CO shows this summer (I don't think any/most have sold out yet, so there's still time). Our perseverance has allowed us to tame this roller-coaster of a bus and enjoy the ride and smell the roses along the way this go-round . . . But I still have work to do – I still get real names, avatars and nicknames all mixed up (except for GeoFillInTheBlankMeister, of course.)
