A hot day! music and temperature wise! The Allman Bros. Band opened and jammed with the Dead for 40 or so mins. at the end. Great show!
I think you mean the '72 show

I think you are mixing up the '72 and '74 shows at Dillon stadium. The ABB/Dead at Dillon was in July of '72 I am almost certain.

phew no ABB
I was confused for a minute there. All these years and I didn't remember that ABB was there. This was my first show and I was 15. Don't know why my older brother brought me, but sure am GLAD he did! I remember playing in water or being sprayed or something, so it must have been HOT. I know the music was fantastic. Changed my life. Saw many shows after that 7-15 years later with one New Years show thrown in for good measure.
Dillon Stadium '74
I seem to remember a Phil/ Ned Lagin Seastones set in between sets. Great show, my first, and I remember wondering why Pigpen wasn't there. A kind soul behind me broke the sad news that he had passed away a year or so before. I fell in love with Donna Jean that night.

7-31-74 Dillon Stadium Show
This was probably my favorite Dead show that I ever attended. It was a VERY hot day, temperature wise as well as musically, but the Dead played well into the evening so it seemed like we were there all day & nite. The ABB were not there and Neal and Phil definitely did their Seastones electronic thing between the 2nd and 3rd sets. I knew instantly that U.S. Blues would become one of THE Dead classics. This remains a dream show for me!

Remember hearing 'To Lay Me Down' for the 1st time. It seemed to go on forever. THE BOYS were having much great fun that day. Three sets - Ouch! Maybe cars stopped on I-91 checking out the show too?

My car got broken into while parked at an apartment project near the show. All our stuff was stolen and we had to drive back to NY from Hartford with no side windows.

I was at this show in 72. One of the best shows I've seen. Really close to the stage. I remember eating certain items that had melted together. Long warm up. Great jamming with ABB. HOT HOT HOT. Thanks for the flashback.

This show has been officially released as "Dave's Picks, Volume 2" May 1, 2012. The first four volumes of Dave's Picks release series are a limited edition of 12,000 each volume. A subscription plan was instituted for early birds that featured a bonus disc and a discounted price.

I don't know for certain but is Bob singing "Drockin'"..instead of "Rockin'" on "Around & Around"???

Allman's at Dillon
A little mixed up on this one. There was no opening act for this show, but the Allmans did play with the Dead at Dillon during the 1972 show there.

Indeed a great show--and the Wall of Sound, wow! Hearing THAT was a never-to-be-forgotten experience.

Winding Down
One of the last shows before the Dead went on hiatus, and it shows. The band was tired, and the delivery was lethargic, though there were a few gems mixed in, like the late "To Lay Me Down" and a sweet "UJB" encore.
