Opening Night
This was the first show at this brand new venue. It was an outdoor amphitheatre but a roof was installed later because of complaints by neighbors.
Bobby Cut His Hair!
I did a hit of white microdot for this one. Some girls in the audience called out really loud: "Bobby cut his hair!"

I went to one of the 3 shows here, don't remember which night. The sound was perfect. They were playing most of the stuff from Europe '72, so we knew every tune inside out. During the show some official fireworks were set off. All we could see was smoke coming off the set and everyone thought it was a fire. This caused Jerry to say (after the tune was over) Relax, folks, It's Hollywood, you know, show biz (or something to that effect)
First show
My first show; I had no idea. I only know that it was this show because when they got to "Test me, test me..." in Bertha, I thought "why testing? the sound seems OK!"
Seats in the front row but behind Keith's back. We wound up sitting on the front of the stage, could lean back on the piano, during the second set.

Loser?
At the time I had little if any idea who the Grateful Dead were. A friend offered me a free ticket because his brother had two tickets to all 3 nights and was unavoidably out of town. I couldn't fathom why anyone would see the same band 3 nights in a row and gladly accepted the ticket. It ended up being one of the more significant things in my life. I was at this night or July 1. The set lists are similar and i cannot tell which show i went to.
I could swear they played Loser at the show i attended. None of the 3 set lists includes Loser. The set lists are almost certainly more accurate and dependable than my memory. I see in the notes above that the first set set list is uncertain which gives me some hope my memory may be correct. I have a vivid memory of Jerry singing "i tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines", Does anyone know if by chance my recollection is correct.

One of my favorite versions of China-Rider!!* Sorry I can't help with the order of the first set. I was 16 and probably had the music going on in my head but was probably multitasking, Ha!! Defiantly remember China-Rider

I also do not remember which of these 3 me & my VW van-full of friends attendedbut do remember
as an opening set
that Phil and another person, possilby Ned Lagen, (they did not announce anything
or themselves) were on stage adjusting a couple bays of black boxes
and got these machines going and they played an atmosheric music, not recordings,
but responding to each other (these 2 machines seemed to be responding to
each other in the moment), which was a preview of the SEASTONES record (or, was
it already released by then?) ---- tremendous stuff (I had that LP at one time
and now I see the CD is very pricey, alas . . .)
AND after Phil and Ned(?) got the machines going they walked off . . . .
*Is the Amphitheater an indoor venue now? (I moved to New Mexico since) it was under the stars on these 3 magical nights
