These two-disc deluxe editions will include the original album with newly remastered sound, plus a bonus disc of unreleased recordings.

THE GRATEFUL DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION contains the original album — newly remastered from the original tapes by David Glasser, and restored by Plangent Processes — along with a bonus disc that features the complete unreleased concert from July 29th, 1966 and select cuts from July 30th, 1966 at the P.N.E. I don't know how many versions of the first GD album I have now on CD, vinyl (and even 8-track) but I'm always happy to get another live show, especially a new, unreleased full show from this era!

have not ordered in a long time and it was simple enough but I didn't realize until after payment that 6.99 shipping and 2 bucks tax for who knows what state was added. I might not have bought it had I know it was that much to mail a small package to FL. Total is almost $30.

I'm hoping so!!! there is no way they do one a year for the next 15 or so years to correspond with the "50th" anniversary of that album release.....i.e. - next year (2018) we get a deluxe edition album of "anthem of the sun" etc.....interest will fade WAY before they get to In The Dark or Built to Last - THOUGHTS???

No chance of that, we'd have to get two or three a month (like the old download series which was a great idea killed off WAY before its time). But you say "interest will fade WAY before...In The Dark or Built To Last"? I seriously doubt that. Interest should stay pretty high through Go To Heaven and Dead Set and Reckoning; three more discs of live 1980 stuff sounds pretty good to me! I can do without any live 1987 stuff, unless they want to release the best show of the year (08-13-87) in its entirety, but I'm always up for more live 1989 stuff too. Think about it, live stuff from 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1989? Not a duff year in the bunch, except for 1987.

My guess is that the unreleased-in-the-Complete-E72-Box video material will be the bonus disc on an otherwise original-content-only edition of the album. That would explain why there was no DVD in that "complete" box...I'm not gonna get this first album re-issue, but I am eager to see what's offered with the other albums!

This is always tricky with these re-issues. Even more so with this one, as we have different mixes AND different lengths to deal with. Which one is this one? Hard to keep straight. I think it goes something like this: a) Original Mix/Original Length: Gold WB Label (1967) or Dark Green WB (1967-71) b) Re-Mix/Original Length: Palm Tree/Burbank Label (1972ish) c) Golden Road + Stand Alone Re-Issue = Extended lengths? Remix or Original? d) Warner Bros Studio Album/Record Store Day 180 (Vinyl) = Remix or Original? e) 50th Anniversary = Remix or Original? I think for Anthem that the Golden Road re-issue & Warner Bros Studio Album re-issue were the original mixes. For Aoxomoxoa the GR was the re-mix and the Warner Bros Studio Album was the original. I'm confused on the first record, however. Someone with some knowledge lay it on me & feel free to correct if I made a mistake.

a Taper's Section from back in 2007 listed Dancing in The Streets, I'm A King Bee > One Kind Favor as having been played on 7/29/66. I guess those dates are wrong, or this is not the complete concert. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also if the Taper's Sections are any indication, it looks like the only 1967 shows that are in the Vault are 3/18/67, 8/4-5/67, 10/22/67, 11/10-11/67. I have to imagine 9/3-4/67 are there too, given that we've seen bits of these shows released.

The DeadBase 50th has the lists like you say: 7/29/66: Dancin, Cold Rain, King Bee, One Kind Favor, You Don't Have to Ask, Hey Little One, BIODTL, Schoolgirl, Minglewood. * list may be incomplete & may be from the 30th. 7/30/66: 1: Standing on the Corner, I Know You Rider, Next Time, Top of the World, You Don't Have to Ask, Big Boss Man, Stealin, Cardboard Cowboy, Baby Blue, Cream Puff War. 2: Viola Lee,BIODTL, Schoolgirl * list may be incomplete & may be from the 29th. I just think since the venue is the same on 7/29 & 7/30, and there are some songs repeated, the dates just got confused.

So those of us who shelled out for the The Golden Road box set and already have "remastered" copies of all of the albums must now shell out for newly remastered copies of what we already have in order to get the live show. Smacks of endlessly recycling the same music in order to maximize financial return to me. Good luck to you, but I'll keep my dough, thanx.

I'm for sure going to get this, but I understand some of the controversy about having to buy a cd you already own in order to get the 66 show. When I first saw this I immediately started thinking about who I could give the extra to haha, but then again the previous one has bonus tracks including some live stuff also. I may end up giving the new cd of the 1St album away to a friend in the old slipcase, and then I'll just put the Previous (Golden Roadversion) into the new 2cd slipcase. Either way I'm excited about this 66 show being released, it should be really chill.

From the 2016 Almanac We'll be kicking things off on January 20th with the release of THE GRATEFUL DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION. The set contains the original album — newly remastered from the original tapes by David Glasser, and restored by Plangent Processes — along with a bonus disc that features the complete unreleased concert from July 29th, 1966 and select cuts from July 30th, 1966 at the P.N.E. Garden Auditorium in British Columbia, mastered by Jeffrey Norman. Only a few recordings from the Dead’s first two years exist, but each one reveals corners of the band’s repertoire not captured anywhere else. That’s especially true here, with three songs making their last appearance on any surviving Dead recording: “Standing On The Corner,” “You Don’t Have To Ask Me,” and “Cardboard Cowboy.” The first 10,000 units manufactured will come in a distinctive psychedelic sleeve. http://www.dead.net/almanac/?intcmp=home/carousel4

I used to grouse about no 66-67 releases and I've always loved to pull shows out on their anniversary for a listen. Now I'm grateful the anniversaries of '66 and '67 have come around so I can get that ballroom/auditorium/surf/garage I so desperately need! Thanks DL, JN et al.

Just release all the latest mastered albums in 2017 .... I've ordered GD, and I'll definitely get Anthem, Aoxomoxoa and Live/Dead, but if they wait until the actual 50th anniversary of them, then by the time they get to In The Dark or Built To Last, I guarantee we won't be buying CD's, so I'm not going to worry too much 'bout those.

some one buy one copy, burn the new live show cd's and distribute them accordingly. This is just a way to resell all ready heard music, remaster or not, it is a marketing ploy that won't work on me, I'm sure this show will be available soon for all to have, without having to buy a "new, improved" version of an old album you all ready own. Nice try, but no.

For me, hearing what the last 14 years of technological advances contributes to the sound of this 50-year-old album is exciting. And after listening to Standing On The Corner and comparing it to the sound quality of my unofficial PNE recording is like night and day. After waiting decades for this show to be released I am very happy and grateful that this two-cd package is being offered. Now if they can do this kind of thing for Anthem Of The Sun, Aoxomoxoa and Live Dead before I die, I'll be one happy five-decade long bus rider.

Don't be afraid to make these reissues 3-4 disc sets. I'm in. Sure I have all the original albums on disc from the last time they were reissued but I saw this album pre-order on iTunes for $14.99 so look at it this way, for $14.99 you get a killer 1966 Dead show in awesome quality and the first album remastered in awesome quality as a bonus. Peace.

There's no law stating they have to release these in order. Conceivably, they could release 2-3 a year between DaPs and Box Sets(!).

In the Almanac it was stated that the first 10,000 units pre-ordered will come with a distinctive psychedelic sleeve. That is no longer mentioned in the description on this site. Does that mean that they are already gone? Any help with this question is appreciated.

I ordered this here right away, and my card was charged by Warner Music Group (not Dead.net). Then the charge was reversed. Which I guess is pretty standard for a pre-order like this. But since then, they've charged my card 5 times. Each charge is reversed a few days later. They charged it again today. Is this really necessary? Anyone else experiencing this?

Ordered immediately once these discs were announced. A charge for US$50 showed up on my credit card and stayed on as an 'unposted' charge for about 10 days. Annoying to say the least. Then it just disappeared?! No explanation, no nothing.

I'm assuming that this regular 2CD version will be available at local records stores. I find that Newbury Comics in Mass. usually gets whatever isn't a limited edition Deadnet exclusive. I never preorder these releases. The price in stores is usually comparable or less. Why pay shipping costs and deal with the hassle? Sorry to Deadnet. I love the releases and all but I try not to over subject myself unless there's no alternative. On that note, happy weekend and happy holidays.
