    Aww, c'mon now!
Re: A Phil & Friends show w/Bob attached at the hip? That comment was uncalled for, but all have the right to their opinion. I feel this is a blend of all the members, new and old, pitching in equally with Phil & Bob having rights to the arrangements and vocals. Comment about the drummers was totally apt though -- hard to fill those shoes. These shows were a little off compared to the Fox shows and and large chunks of Asbury, Hammerstein and, of course, Wallingford. But, then again, they were always a bit off for most of the New Years shows back in the day. Lucky ducks, thems that got tickets for the Mill Valley shows. Kudos to the boys for putting in the effort before this tour! We all are so very grateful (well, most of us anyway) to still be able to hear this music played live w/some of the original krew adding a twist of something new. ~ This is the season of what now ~

    Regarding the New Year's
Regarding the New Year's shows in SF: I thought both shows were great! First night seemed a little tighter to me, but both nights' set lists are sweet. I give Phil credit for giving the Heads what they want. No throwaway songs, and no lengthy Space. Great to be in the city for New Year's - brought back memories of my first NY's at the same venue in '83-84. These shows were better, there I said it. Nice to see Phil so happy. Kadlicek definitely hangs back vocally on some key Jerry parts, but it seems more reverential, and out of respect to Bob and Phil. But at other times he really steps up to the mic, and it totally works for me. I don't know, maybe Phil is keeping him down, but he played really well, and the fit is obvious. I like the back up singers, too. They helped smooth things out vocally. But who were they? They should have been introduced!NY's was a long show 8-1:30 (or so), and the third set was a tad ragged, but the energy was right, and Golden Road was sweet, to say the least! It was a party. Frankly that 2nd set that went until 11:45, was what blew my doors! Loved that Floyd stuff, and loved the After Midnight. "Time" was epic, the way Phil hit those subsonic notes we're all so familiar with from tripping to Dark Side as kids - good stuff. I heard a couple people moaning about the drummer's rhythmic abilities, and sure you hear the issues with complex songs like St. Stephen, and Unbroken Chain, but I appreciate the energy they brought. We're spoiled by the relationship Billy and Mickey built over 40 years. No other drumming combo will be able to come close to that. Anyway, I had a blast. Love the Bill Graham Civic - great venue for what I considered to be a Phil and Friends show, with Bob attached at the hip.

now that's a fine set list
I was dead to the world by 9:30 last night but it sounds like the more hardy souls got a great one! And now they've started the year off with more Furthur shows in Mill Valley too. Busy guys...

I couldn't find the definition anywhere. I hope it doesn't mean disappointed because you east coast people get the most shows by far and have no reason to whine. Lucky ducks. Enjoy the shows. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

Three NY State shows in a week...let's see, Cornell, work a couple of days, Buffalo, work a day and then off to my college town Utica. Sounds like a great week to me...maybe I'll take those in between days off as well:) Can't wait. DSO Friday 12-5 in Rochester and then my countdown begins to V-Day. Thanks for the Tour

My first DSO show last night... Didn't know what to expect and I was mildly surprised. You can spend an enjoyable evening if you're in the mood. The question is: Will they put you in the mood? Not really. The tonal quality of of John and the Bobby clone is eerie though. As the evening went on at times I thought I was trapped in a late 70s Keith & Donna-ish Deadhead hell. I don't know if they completely lose the Donna clone and play different era music. Tonight sounded like a set list from 73. I'm going Furthur based on the strength of the Fox shows.

And then there's the northeast. There's two shows in NC on this tour, so I'm definitely NOT complaining. But I used to live in Rhode Island, different scale altogether. To get to either of my NC shows, my drive is approximately as far away as it used to be for me to drive to Portland, ME, three states away. I could see shows in RI, CT, MA, NH, and ME (with NY and NJ not that much farther away) and still be in the same driving radius as my current two NC shows. Not that I'm complaining...still beats being in Kansas, Furthur-wise..

Here's a scale difference between the NE and the middle of the country - For the Dead Spring tour I caught 5 shows by driving a good 6,000 miles. That's 1,200 miles in between each show on average. I keep thinking - how many shows could I have seen if I drove just 1,200 miles around the NE?? I would have seen the Dead/Ratdog/Furthur a couple hundred times by now if I lived up there. Must be nice. So yeah it is a bit annoying to hear people in the NE complain about not having enough shows. That goes for the bay area too. "I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel. Can't win for tryin. Dust off those rusty strings just one more time. Gonna make em shine."

You live in a tiny state, and your sense of scale gets out-of-whack no matter how much you think it doesn't. The joke went, in my neck of the woods (NW corner of the state, as far from the coast as you can get)...if you're headed to the beach in Westerly (about 60 miles), better think about getting a hotel for the night. So I didn't appreciate how good I had it, show-wise, until I moved someplace else. And to emphasize, it ain't bad here at all...just needed to readjust my map a little.

The only one here in the NW, only 293 miles away at the end of winter. Going to take a bit more time off and hang out in the City, visit Powell's bookstore and go over to the ocean. If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. William Blake

@ Eagle: Great job in suggesting Broomfield--you hit it right on the head--two shows at Broomfield between Chi-town and Portland. This head who has been stuck in Kansas for 3 years will sure be there. Looking forward to FURTHURing my acquaintance with all my Boulder/Crested Butte brethren. BTW: I have seen Jerry 10,000 times--if you count all the magazine pics I have looked at!! (I know--but like Bob Weir says: "It's not easy being cheesy")

We got the floor Gen Admission tickets for Atlanta - anyone know about this venue? A bunch of "regular" concert goers on other sites say that balcony is better than floor at this venue. Is this possibly the case??? I can't imagine GA floor "seats" is a bad thing for this band. Also - to the JK haters: back of the bus with the Warren haters please. If you want to see anything that resembles the band that you love enough to be reading this forum then I just can't compute why you would rag on whoever they decide is going to play guitar for them. News flash: Jerry's not up in Hoboken running a pizza place for his uncle Lenny. He's dead. So in light of that news I think the boys have consistently made pretty good musician choices over the past few years and I think we should all just take what we get and enjoy the ride, the music, and each others company. I will be looking forward to seeing some of you on the road and in the aisles. Safe travels. Why did somebody label all these tapes with "mono sodium glutamate"?

Hey Carolina, there really isn't a bad seat in the Tabernacle. I think the only reason folks dis the floor is because we Heads are not as young as we used to be and our old bones require a seat. You may have a few audio issues if you are on the back of the floor or in the last three rows of any balcony due to the overhang, but you are that much closer to the full service bar in that case. No worries............ David
