Grateful Dead

Well apparently I was at this show. I remember the $50.00 station wagon, leaving San Carlos/Redwood City for Reno and only now that nitecat mentions it, the case of oil to keep the boat afloat. so I guess I was in Portland. Oddly enough the setlist seems familiar. It's funny what we DO remember.

Still a teen, we drove from the south bay to Portland in an old station wagon purchased for $50. It had a terrible oil leak, we traveled with a case of oil. Great show, this was one of a handful of shows where they played Money Money. It was quickly retired, never to ever be played again. What a wonderful adventure!

I remember this one well. Show was supposed to start at 7, and the band took the stage 15 minutes early, ready to cook. Superb set list (maybe my favorite of all my Dead shows), and the band was in great form. This was my first taste of the "Mars Hotel", and I loved hearing the new stuff. The acoustics of the building didn't do the sound system justice though. From certain vantage points you're in good shape, but throughout much of the building the sound is a muddled mess. I had to get much closer to really hear the vocals, and good instrumental separation. That being said, there was enormous energy, and a good time was had by all. After over five hours of heaven the fun police turned on the house lights, and pulled the plug just after midnight.
