I'd be happy with some photos of this box, similar to the May 1977 box release of 2013, with the discs and books spread out, and perhaps a listening party, or another video from Dave with in the month of March. However, there is the roll out of Dave's Picks 22 due May 1, and that project eats into this Get Shown the Light project, somehow. I'd like to see yet another T-shirt commemorating 5/8/77. Also a high-quality reproduction of the original poster of this show.

Garden Auditorium, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 7/29/66 marks Grateful Dead's debut performance outside of the United States. Their complete July 29, 1966 performance is being released in a limited edition, 2-LP, 180 gram vinyl-set, with four bonus tracks from the ensuing 7/30 performance at the same venue. Original cover art by Canadian poster artist, Bob Masse. The iconic 60's poster artist has designed original works for artists such as Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, No Doubt, Fiona Apple & Smashing Pumpkins to name a few. The show was mastered from the original audio recordings by GRAMMY winning sound engineer Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering in Petaluma, CA. This audio was first made available in January, 2016 as the bonus disc in the 2-CD The Grateful Dead (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) as it features most of the tracks that would make their way on to the first official Grateful Dead album. It was previously unreleased before this year and is only available as a stand-alone show in this limited edition vinyl set.

It's particularly exciting to see shows released where I was in attendance and this one is about as cool as it gets. flying..

greetings from 30,000 feet in the air (on a flight headed to LA this week). Brought along a ton of shows in my phone, but unlike driving, where i want something sorta mellow and jazzy as i get in a groove, i find when i fly i prefer shorter bursts of high energy shows. Driving: 71-74 Flying: 77-91 Currently listening to Dave's 8 as we fly somewhere over arizona (i think). hope everyone is well!

Get Shown The Light

I would guess I've listened to Scarlet Begonias at least 500 times. Today was the first day I heard the lyrics "get shown the light" in it. And then the light bulb went on over my head. I really like DaP 7, aka Back to Normal with the Grateful Dead. It was my first Dave's Picks, purchased off Ebay in 2014. Cassidy, The Music Never Stopped, Scarlet Begonias => Fire On The Mountain, and Terrapin Station are rock solid gems for me (except for the brief ruckus during Scarlet / Fire when the fan jumped up onstage to yank the guitar out of Weir's hands as he played slide; you can almost make out the words, "listen to what you're doing to Jerry's solo!").

FTW videos

The FTW Box and the live stream recordings are not identical. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, that would take a lot of time (but if I did it while riding on Jim's lawnmower it might not take any time at all....), but I'm going to guesstimate that they are around 85-90% identical. There were additional cameras around the stadium that were only included on the Box. If you live streamed the shows then being able to watch the same stream again helps bring back some of those night's memories.I live streamed the 27th (so glad I did), did not stream the 28th, and attended 3,4,5. The extra cameras at Chicago got a lot of great crowd shots, so if you were there I recommend the Box because it really reflects the great vibe of the crowd. There are also some pre-show videos from outside the stadium as well as short segments of the band coming and going from the stage. Other differences: The Box comes in 1080p bluray with 5.1 sound, the online stream recordings come in 720p with stereo sound. But note: the bluray 5.1 sound wasn't decoded well on my Samsung bluray player, but sounds amazing on my Onkyo bluray player. So if you have a Samsung, don't blame the bluray (that was my motivation to buy a new player). Also, the Box comes with the CD's, CD's of Circles around the sun, and a bluray of all the videos that were played during intermission.

I've Learned Over The Years

Never order ANYTHING from dead.net on the first day. This happens every time, see E72 among others. This will take at least a few weeks to sell out. But agree, 15K, that's it???!!!

This is the story of my day trying to place the order. Just that error. I'll get up to entering credit card, but it's just a tease. Maybe the box doesn't actually exist - this was just to fuck with me all day.

on the verge of scrapping my Dave's Picks subscription and collection over this nonsense. I hope the media outlets that promoted this release will also cover the absolute failure of the company to provide a stable platform to order.

I wouldnt sweat it too much. Remember the initial surge for the E72 release did the same thing and that was for half the #. Even then it worked out and they were taking orders for at least a day or so afterward before it sold out. As for the #'s consider what they did for Veneta and it still isn't sold out. My guess is the 15k number is based pretty precisely on the sales data showing the true demand and that everyone who is paying attention over the next few days will get an order in. I suspect this will sell out by next week though.

Thanks Dead.netFor making what should have been a great and joyous experience and turning it into a agonizing, frustrating 3hrs and counting nightmare! Ive had bad trips that were better than this. One would think that with the amount of money these releases generate (2.1 Mil on this one alone) One would think that the online ordering would be a bit better. Next time release it on amazon! The Dead were always about changing things up and embracing new tech and innovation. Ive been through this several times and on other occasions placed orders and then received phone calls about how the ordering was all screwed up. I can forgive an occasional rocky release but every time starting with the Europe box set! Come On Man, make some new arrangements for online purchasing!

Just slips away when I try

I had an easier time getting into Red Rocks without a ticket! I'm walking away for a while. I've felt this feeling before. Think I'll go join a protest rally and get back to this later.

Frustration

After several hours wasted on both the computer and phone... I give. Gonna go burn one and pray they up the 15k number so we all get a shot. Jerry said the music should be free. I'd be happy with just free from frustration. Maybe Putin doesn't want this music out :) My biggest wish actually is that Betty gets paid for her talent and work. Thank YOU Betty !

I'm kinda in the same vein as you. I've been a loyal junky for years now and if they sell this out I'm done as well, that's just too insulting and I'm going to torrents and free downloads from illegal sources. I'll keep my money from now on if its not being invested in solving these problems.

I have been trying on line and via telephone since I received the email (as obviously have a lot of actual individual fans seeking one set) This is clearly not working as it should and it will be a shame if the only way many of us loyalists could consider getting this is at drastically inflated resale prices -- not what I would expect many fans would appreciate or want to participate in

i was ordering, got timed out. went to my 'history', pulled up the shopping cart page and completed the order, received an email confirmation from the grateful dead within a minute or two. whew!

I could post a scribe about how I am not buying anymore, but the fact is that the dead releases bring me so much joy. So, instead, just a plea - c'mom folks, we are trying to give you our hard earned cash. The technology to handle this volume of traffic exists, so please get on board.

Have been trying to order for 2.5 hours, this is worse than Trump's National Security performance.

Tired with limited editions

You guys sell records like dealers sell drugs : get it now, or it's gone ! And of course, once you have paid, the dealer doesn't show up. On 3 Dave's Picks releases I ordered I only got one about 2 months later. They had to send another disc for another release (took me 4 months to finally get it), and I finally got my money back for the third... I'm still waiting for Dave'sPicks vol. 21... By reading all these comments I'm not sure I'll drop 140 $ then pray for 3 months to get the records. If it's so complicated to ship a disc to France, then simply don't pretend you can.
