Can't believe this thread is still going. I can never seem to find it from the regular website as they are obviously pushing only the All music edition. But today I received the almanac email and bang there is a link to this thread. Kayak guy thanks so much for that Meat Puppets link. Wow that band knocked me off my ass when I was 17. Was at a lower east side NYC club called the World when I figured I would check out the second floor of this club. I hear a 3 piece rock band performing for roughly 30 people. There were several hundred on the lower level drinking and dancing to a DJ playing bad 80's dance music. The Meat Puppets were punk rocking their way through some classic rock covers and playing many of their own repertoire. All I really knew was classic rock. These guys were young and fierce. It was musically speaking a life changing moment for me at the time. Even at 17 I was sick of FM radio playing the same 60's and 70's songs over and over. I thought rock was dead or at least simply coasting along. After that show I went out and bought the MP's current EP release Out My Way and MP 2. Then I picked up the obviously GD inspired Up On The Sun and immediately knew these guys were crazy talented and inspired by all the greats before them. Then of course I heard the Replacements and others in the underground scene. A few years later we had the last great rock music era courtesy of Nirvana and other great indie acts. So discovering the Meat Puppets and the Grateful Dead a year earlier restored my faith in rock. The 80's was the era of drum machines and synths but there were still a few bands playing real music. You just had to poke around to find them. Thanks for letting me vent all that out though I probably won't be able to find this thread again. Really psyched to get this box in a few weeks. Happy Passover to everyone. I remember back in the day it always coincided with Spring east coast tours. Mom I really need to miss the Seder. Why? I need to be at Nassau Coliseum or further out in Worcester Mass to see the Grateful Dead.

I will relish the NRPS with Jerry on pedal steel, he was much too hard on himself, questioning his proficiency and claiming he needed to practice too much to be good...his pedal playing with the Riders and early 70's Dead was extraordinary...Bobby couldn't play slide for shit, but he did...and the world is a better place for it as well as Jerry's pedal steel...

funny you should ask ;) Looks like a slow night here at the kiddies table. LMA is just so cool it NEVER ceases to amaze me. For the past 10 years, when i go to clubs shows and meet the "vintage" bands, i always lobby for LMA and tell them to check out the GD section and they could have the same thing because it's filled by the rabid fans and the tapers themselves, all they have to do is approve being on there, the rest is automatic. a couple of bands that have shown up eventually are Butt Hole Surfers, Meat Puppets and i'm still working on Mission of Burma ;) Just taking a stroll through the Pups section, which is getting more robust each time i check, i see this gem from the original drummer who no longer tours but runs their archives. Meat Puppets Live at Highlights Of 1985 on 1985-01-01 Uploaded by Derrick Bostrom on 10/22/2015 Its a 41 track best of 1985 that you can download in lossless flac, it's sick. To make up for the Let Me Sing

Just me and the crickets here tonight.Working my way through 1970 it really makes one appreciate the foresight of Bear in recording and keeping all the tapes of the shows he was doing. Spring 1970 he's off the tour, after the January New Orleans Bust described in Truckin and the virtual vault goes SBD vacant, with AUDs now serving as place holders and reference points in the year. This is the part of the real Vault i would be interested in asking Dave about, 1970. With the return of the Betty's it gets easier to plot future releases for the 1971-79 years, but 1970 is an enigma, wrapped in a riddle that holds the most promise for unknown goodies to be found next. They go from Ballrooms and Festivals in 1969 to college Gyms and auditoriums, the tapes are primitive, the decks had auto level and was in the time before tapers knew that when they were chatting it was being recorded too. A super duper deluxe Bears Choice/ Dick's Pick 4 box with all of the Fillmore East Feb 70, early and late 11th, 13th & 14th Normanized would be a special pleasure. The June Fillmore West 1970 look ripe for a set and have seen some limited release as bonus material. Tomorrow morning will be back to working on the AUDs with this classic AUD recording that was a mainstay of cassette trading in the 70's in much worse sound. i'll skip the NRPS, but you don't have to. Dave Europe 72 is so good, probably the best. I wish there was some 1973 that sounded as good. The Winterland Box set is probably as close as it gets.

That would be so cool, but wouldn't that really cheese off the people that got denied on this box and now have the mysterious Music Only version as their only option? I think this page is now dead and all the official action will be on the Music Only page. According to the banner there's still less than 500 copies left and it's been sold out since a couple days after the preorder.

Sticking it to 'em

After the total meltdown and quick abandonment of this page to the All Music page i think it's unlikely we'll get anymore here. It is sold out, why waste any further effort on it, the All Music is the one they are pushing now, the unlimited, folio packaged one. I suspect we see more on the folio version before we get more on this one. Maybe after it ships, but until then there is no reason to do anything and remind people of preorder day or payment cancellations. Though Dr Rhino seems to really get off on the unboxing videos, i like the white gloves he uses.

Just a picture of all the contents, very similar to the first May 1977 box with the discs laid out and the booklet, only this new Get Shown The Light will have a book and booklet. The book being the Peter Conners about 5/8/77 and the booklet with Nick Meriwether's essay and the music credits and legals. Reproductions of tickets to all 4 shows. Dimensions: 6"w x 7 3/4"h x 2"d same as original May 77 box from 2013.

Well maybe competence and thoroughness should be considered in hiring web designers. Still huge blood pressure raising problems and frustration in ordering. There should be a health warning against older people ordering; I wonder if anyone trying vainly to order for the 49th time dies in the process. credit cards are impossible to use since a name on the credit card is required, but the designer failed to provide a space for the name! Only alternative was pay pal, which seemed to have gone thru, but then I received a notice from Rhino of payment failure. Then I got a confirmation of the order from Paypal, but not Rhino. God knows if I have succeeded in ordering this box set, but I should know too. What a mess. I give up.

My question is this recorded on 2 track or multi-track? also does anyone else know if the 1st may 77 box set and the stand alone To Terrapin release also 2-Track recordings? they kinda seem to have the same audio feel as Dicks picks 29 and those were 2-track recordings.

Get Shown The Light box 1

After several failed attempts to buy this box in the first few hours that it went on sale, I gave up and waited until the next day. In the early morning hours on Friday, I was successful.It's probably will arrive about the dame day as Dave' Picks 22. I think the $139.98 is a fair price, but Rhino/Warner Music Group should give registered users of dead.net a discount of free shipping, and guests should pay that shipping charge. Add my state's sales tax, and the total amount is almost $15 more than the list price. These are great shows and I'm glad the original tapes finally found their way back to the Grateful Dead vault and that these 4 shows were released.

Primo stuff Returned GD reels also have some more from late 1979 and Fall 1980 ~ Brent era Dave's Picks 21 sounds amazing, can't wait to hear the December 1971 recordings Dave's Picks 22 ? How about 10.29.77 ? That one is really high energy. Also would like 11.6.77 OR an offering from the Pacific Northwest run September 1977 - October 1977. Rumors were true!

The returning. I hope BCJ got a little slice of the pie on this, she deserves it. I don't know the inside story, but it seems right. I saw the tweet from Rolling Stone and snuck in under the gun, about 5 mins before the official email went out. Then all hell broke loose, and the site was flumuxed till last night. I'm surprised this isn't sold out yet. Looking forward to getting the box a day or so after my birthday, May 4th. Buffalo is the one for me. Can't wait to hear that Peggy-O and The Music Never Stopped from that night. Just pure swing perfection. I wonder if they did anything to the time between songs for Cornell. Aren't there some fairly long pauses? Also, that 2nd disc of Buffalo is a little weak, guess they couldn't fit everything on 2 discs.

Why is Rhino involved in this???

Why do I have to log into Dead.net and then when I pre-order it takes me to Rhino.com to start the process over - and not only that but I have to provide all of my contact info - which Dead.net already had on file. Whatever idiot designed Rhino's ordering page should be taken out back and shot (probably someone's idiot nephew as someone said already). I already have to go to the DMV today and deal with them this just made my day so much "nicer"

my brother's family ordered the Dave's Pick subscription for me for Christmas, but instead of sending the confirm to them Rhino sent it to me so I knew what I was getting for Christmas. For some reason they are sending emails to an email address I no longer use - and hasn't been on file with GD for years. When I called Rhino about the issue they said they'd fix but it is February and so far no luck (oh and they sent the first Dave's Picks to my brother's address not mine). Top notch customer service.

To my ears, It sounds like Maybe Dave decided to throw in an audio patch so that for a few seconds the listener can get the reverb from Barton Hall on the sweet sweet part of the Garcia Lick, and I totally dig it, what sounds strange is how at like 9:35 it cleans up and sounds quiet. If I was betting man, and especially after listening to the Dave's Pick #20...As well as the Amazing quality Aud. recording of this show over at Archive.Org. Me thinks it is a few seconds of Audience Patch. Just wish the volume or the reverb would have lasted a little longer.

Well, I got a couple of steps closer to purchasing, but still, when I click on "proceed to checkout" I get a page telling me my cart is empty. Is this an early April Fool's Day prank, Rhino? If so: Not Funny.

Can't tell if my order processed. Went through the checkout process and then it bounced me back to my shopping cart showing the box still sitting there.

Wow...good to see a couple things this morning: 12/1/79... I've emailed Dave a couple times about this one. Really hope to see it released one day. Really strong and cool show. Dr (um) Brainfart - the Peggy-O on 5/9 is one of (if not the) best versions the dead ever did.

i would have tried to order another and then looked in my email, rhino.com webstore sent order confirmation, even though it looked like a fail, usually after order submit is complete,, it will go to an order summary with confirmation number. in this case it by-passed that and said my cart was empty... appearing as if it had crapped out at the end My opinion you guys should be fine, they will see your comments here and it would be nuttier than squirrel turds if they shut out any one that posted in the comments section. I get the feeling this is going to sell out before end of month So now that 5.8.77 is on vinyl ? will there be an RSD release in April ? really hope so,, and hope its from 1966 ! Well, here it is!

Okay, so this does feel like a bit of a cash grab considering the superb-sounding Betty Boards long available for the Godhead of Grateful Dead shows (father, son, and holy spirit; 5/7,8,9), but the slight improvements in mastering and the extra goodies make this one worthwhile. If you're like me and you already own all of the Spring '77 releases and boxed set that have come before, you might as well, might as well. I've always been partial to the Dick's Picks 29 shows as 'best of tour,' but nothing can beat the insane lysergic jamming on Barton's "Dancin' in the Streets" or "Row Jimmy." Take my money please.

re: Chitown Rider & THAT LIST

Dang....that is a tasty list of reels, and among them is one of my all-time favorite shows, 6/11/76 - Boston Music Hall. I had emailed Dave about this one a few years back, only to have him state it sadly wasn't in the vault. My hope is that they left the banter between songs intact and did not eliminate it. Yeah, it makes the show a bit more choppy, but also adds to the appeal. IMO.

I had guessed it would sell out in 24 hrs, like the recent Daves Picks- but I think website issues might have hindered that. I really hope they still do an April RSD release as well... Dave keeps saying that "theres a lot of really cool stuff coming up" so Im hoping that he wasnt just referring to these releases. Not to sound ungrateful, I mean this is May 77 we're talkin about.

6100 left as of right now. Yesterday logic told me that a release like this would take at least days to sell out but I was in panic mode like everyone else non the less. I am glad that it has worked out for everyone and we finally have this release to look forward to. 20,000 may have been a better count for this one so I am telling all my friends to grab one while they can, but the other 3 shows may end up being released individually down the road. Empty cart

If you hit purchase and then your cart shows empty, it's empty because you successfully made the purchase.Do what mbarilla says and check your email. Also, be patient, the website is quite slow at moving to the next screen. That was part of the problem yesterday, people kept clicking on the buttons thinking that the first mouse click didn't go through, but it did, followed by additional clicks which overloaded the system. It was a self-inflicted denial of service attack. You can tell by people's posts from yesterday that were posted 3-5 times because they kept resending it, thinking that then first one didn't go through. At one point I had 8 Boxes in my cart because I kept hitting the add to cart button but wasn't getting a response, then all of a sudden had 8. Had to close my browser and delete the history to get rid of them.

Wheww!!

Finally got mine. I was in full panic mode last night as I tried several times to order, got bumped off, out, you name it, it happened to me. I even tried calling this morning and got cut off!! Then low and behold came to work, got online, and got it!! It makes for a GREAT Friday. Thanks to Dead.net, Dave Lemiuex & the production crew, and last but certainly not LEAST, thank you Grateful Dead for letting us enjoy the long starnge trip!!

Still have my flower

It is true, I have not listened to these shows. Why? 1977 has never been a go to year for me. I am hoping this box will change that. Now I do own the other 77 boxes. I have only listened to songs not the entire thing. Don't think I haven't tried. It's hard to describe, but after a few songs I feel the need to move on. My goal this weekend is to listen to one complete show either from Winterland 77 or The May 77. Any suggestions on which show? Thanks Now for something completely unrelated: I need to get my hands on the bonus disc from the Cleveland '73 that was included with Denver '73. That 40 + minute Dark Star is killer.

gmfeld - order or no order?

You should have received a confirmation screen at the time of your order and a follow up email. Another way to check is see if the charge has hit your credit card. At some point before things were directed to Rhino I seemingly made it through the order process - name, address, billing info, and submitted it - but after about 30 seconds the connection dropped before it looked like the purchase was completed, and my guess was nada zilch zip zero. Sure enough, after about 15 minutes of no email and not being able to reaccess the check out page I called my credit card company and there was no charge against it - the charge would have posted at the same time as a successful order. Once Rhino was involved I was able to lock a copy in! Thank you Rhino!

RSD

I also hope they do a RSD release, i was bummed they did not have on on black Friday. I would love for it to also be previously unreleased music. I would rather have the opportunity to get something that has not already came out in a recent box.

This get more and more f'd up at every juncture. I'm sorry, Warner/Rhino/GD, I cannot proceed to put my credit card info into a site with malware. WTF?
