From the 30 Trips Box ...

I haven't listened to it in a couple of years - Jerry is in Great form, Phil sings his heart out, Bobby plays some interesting licks early and (oof) over-screams several times to ostensibly check the mikes (ouch!) as the crew hammer, presumably, one of Bill's foot pedals back in. At one point, Jerry says "Everything's gone Weird, All at Once" and they try a fairly sweet Mama Tried (not often a fave for me) that takes two tries to get off the ground ... Perhaps the beer was not good?? Bob says something "smells like cat-piss" You hear "Let's F*in do it! and then Pig launches into A Man's Man's World - the jam is not quite as the expansive marvel of Harpur College 2-3 weeks later, and they seem not to (yet) have the most confident way to close it out. But IMO, both Phil and the vocals are recorded better. Candyman is interesting/good (to me) for being an electric performance of the (more common in early '70) acoustic arrangement. Hard to Handle is performed a bit more slowly than later versions, with the great syncopated middle stretch rave-up being shorter- early times & just starting to take shape, I guess. Jerry's killer solos in Cumberland rock it out to close the disc.

The other half is pretty freakin awesome as well. Especially, but not at all limited to: The 'flying' Latin-Flavored Caution-ish Jam that arises from Drums and has Mickey (and/or a guest?) absolutely Hammering the small skins, then goes off into the intro for The Other One (Hot) that segues, uniquely(?) into Dire Wolf.
There is a distinct recall of parts/bars in the flying 6 minute jam that also +/- flows in between the 4.26.72 100 Year Hall versions of Lovelight and GDtRFB - which is Way up there on my list. So to this Head, it's VERY worth your time/attention - whenever you happen to come around to it.

Edit: Dancin' in the Streets (with excellent Darkness, Darkness jam in the middle - AKA, at least to me = 'proto'-Eyes) ... Also very good/worthwhile 👍

    Cheers All

As part of my 1970 dive I hit the Festival Express and 5/24/70 video (disc 2 of LST). Always cool to check out these archival chestnuts, every now and then, from time to time…
