Re-posted from New Vines 2009: With collaboration from various kind folks in the Dead.net vining community, our own erickat prepared this handy guide explaining how vining works hereabouts. Many thanks to all involved, and vine on! -- Dead.Net Vines - What It Is & How It Works (We're changing some things for 2009) BACKGROUND: The concept of a "vine" is music sharing through conventional means (e.g. mailing cd's or dvd's) with the sign-up list being on-line. The basic idea is that someone starts (seeds) a vine, made up of one or multiple shows, and sends it via mail to the first person who signs up. That person makes a copy for themselves and sends the ORIGINAL media on to the next person on the list. As more people sign up, it continues to grow and grow - hence the name "vine". MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Make sure you can deal with the media format. Many vines are in audio CD format, so the minimum basic requirement is that you are knowledgeable and capable of copying audio CD's. Other vines are in D

This is a single flac DVD that will unbundle to 13 CDs. (Sorry no wav CDs) Sources include soundboards, radio broadcasts, and audience recordings, and you can see special guests often sit in with the Doctor for some bayou boogie and to help spice up the gumbo. I just got these in the mail and it is easier to burn multiple discs than it is to go back later and re-rip, so here is another 'stache vine. Caveat: I haven't listened to those shows yet so I cant' really vouch for them, but I am sure that most are at least good and that there is a gem or two in here. I looked through the Vindex and omitted the shows that were listed, and I apologize if I include anything that wasn't listed but has been vined. There will be 11 shows in SHN/FLAC format on 3 DVD's. My first shows .... need I say more :-) I have a terrible recording of 9/30 and never could find the other 2. This is so awesome, totally made my day :-) "Here's my half a dollar if you dare .. double twist when you hit the air. Look at Julie down below .. the levee doing the dopaso"

Sadly, I don't think a great recording of 9/30 circulates. Even on this version, a Charlie Miller, Bob's guitar is LOW in the mix, which definitely lessens my enjoyment of it. On the plus side, 7/4 is a very good show and I like 10/1 too.

Ok, I dug this stuff out for you marye. Go Ahead was a side band for Brent Mydland and Billy Kreutzmann. I have a few recordings from 86-88. I have put the best of the lot on cd's. (sorry no flac files this time) Also in this vine is a Brent Mydland solo from 7-10-1988. It is a very clear audience recording. Brent's volcals are kind of soft, but there is no hiss or other obnoxious noises and sounds fine turned up loud. Still, I would recommend listening to Brent's solo in head phones or a car to really appreciate it. This will be 7 cd's in all. Brent Mydland 7-10-1988 01. Love Doesn't Have To Be Pretty 02. Truely some random Jerry on this one. From Jerry Garcia Band 10/11/75, 2/22/80 and partials for 2/29 - 3/1/80 (a leap year show!) to three Jerry and John Kahn shows in 1982 (6/4, 6/6 and 9/7). Flac/shn on DVD's. The sources are listed below. Some really nice shows and recordings on this vine. Even the aud recordings for 2/22/80 and 9/7/82 are excellent. I was going to say "The 1975 show alone is worth getting this vine" and it is but really, all these are awesome in my opinion. I can never get enough of Garcia and Kahn. Here are 2 DVD's filled with the summer of '72, an often overlooked period sandwiched between the great spring and fall tours. Sure, the boys take it easy for stretches, but EVERY Dark Star, Other One and Playing is something special. 7/21 and portions of 7/22 have been officially released, 8/12 appears on the Postcard from a Hangover vine, and I don't have a SHN/FLAC 8/27, so those shows aren't included. The Lapful Laughs and 2 from 72 vines seem dead, so I am including the summer '72 shows that were on those vines. Except for 8/20 (SBD B+) and the first set of 7/16 (AUD B), everything arrives in a quality SBD. In this installment: The Doors & Pearl Jam. I find a lot of similarities in the music of these two bands. I'm sure Pearl Jam and other Grunge bands were heavily influenced by The Doors. Pearl Jam brought back some much needed "psychedelia" to the music of the 90's. I am including the 01-15-93 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame cd that has Eddie Vedder singing with The Doors.(It was vinned separately a couple of months ago) There are some great live shows from both bands included in this vine, and of course studio outtakes as well. This vine will be around 4 dvd's, all flac files. Some more Jerry from different line ups (Reconstruction, JGB, Black Mountain Boys) and years ('79, '87, '89) for a total of 11 shows. Note that with the exception of 12/4/87 these are all aud's. I have received sevral requestes for JGB 1980 so I decided to just put it all out here . So here is almost all the 80 JGB I have . A few of these shows have been vined but I`m not sure if the sources are the same . And as you will see there is a few shows here with multible sources . I hav`nt listened to every show here so I can`t vouch for the sound but it all came from a very good source , I`m sure it all sounds very nice or it would`nt be out . as usual shn/flac 9 DVD`s. Enjoy the JGB !! These are "regular" SHN/FLAC that we can convert to WAV and play in our stereo, right? And not the new stuff badger has been talking about that won't play in a regular stereo? I see that Charlie Miller recently cleaned them up so they should upgrade already fine sources.

welcome back LTA Pilot! You were quick on the draw..the 4/27 only appeared today. Now waiting on the 24 Bit version. Dstache these are probably as good as they are going to get, mostly straight from the master reels! The regular 16 bit versions (which it looks like he is vining first) sound just great, the 24 bits even much better. I did not sense much interest in the 24 Bits when I suggested them...I was waiting for this last show (4/27) to put them all in an unofficial Fillmore East boxed set at least for Deadicated! But if you want to Vine the 24's LTAPilot please go ahead..folks would get them quicker.

I agree with stuman. I just don't know how to deal with 24 bit. If it can't be played on a basic boombox, iPod or car stereo then I probably should avoid that format. "Here's my half a dollar if you dare .. double twist when you hit the air. Look at Julie down below .. the levee doing the dopaso"
