Under the Deck!
Wow it's been so many years and I haven't thought about that night in a long time. That said I can recall everything that happened like it was yesterday. There was an amazing young woman who I would see over the years on tour. Basically we would bump into each other every now and then and when neither of us could get tickets for the show we would run around having a wonderful time together. That night we ran under the deck to stay dry from the rain. As we all know the deck came crashing down on us. We were in the center all the way against the building wall right by a door that went to the bottom level. Being next to the building wall saved us because the deck didn't come straight down. It pulled a foot or two away from the wall. We got banged up a little and a few cuts. Somehow the 2 of us found super human strength! We were able to rip the door out of it's frame and help people get to safety. I will never forget another young woman who had a giant wooden beam crushing her hip. We held her hand and tried to comfort her the best we could until the ambulance came and helped her. I will say this...with all the "bad behavior" that was going on at some of the venues when the deck fell everyone and I mean everyone did everything they could to help their fellow brother & sister. You saw people's hearts breaking for other's pain. I didn't see anyone step over anyone. Everyone stopped to help. After people did everything they could to keep helping. From food, drinks, clothes, and blankets. At that time in place we all had eaxh others backs and I still have that love with me today.
