"When we began discussing audio projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead back in 2012, we knew we wanted to do something completely unprecedented. We could think of nothing more exciting or ambitious than a career-spanning overview of the band's live legacy focused on what best tells the story: complete concerts. Our first criterion was the very best live music to represent any given year in the band’s history. We wanted to make sure that there were not only the tent-pole shows that fans have been demanding for decades but also ones that are slightly more under the radar, but equally excellent. For those who listen to the entire box straight through, chronologically, the narrative of the Grateful Dead's live legacy will be seen as second to none in the pantheon of music history." - David Lemieux

We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Shows will NOT be sold individually on CD. This release is sure to sell out quickly so pre-order your copy today and stick around as we will be revealing a mighty fine selection of music, art, and much, much more right here.

(Looking for a smaller 50th Anniversary commemorative keepsake? September 18th will see the release of a four-CD version of the collection titled 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN: THE DEFINITIVE LIVE STORY 1965-1995. More on that here.)

    Viewing the digital book:
You can either view it within the program that comes on the drive, or by opening the PDF directly.

They have '75 and '76, but not '77, the only three I've checked within the last couple of hours.

Wow...I just finished listening to the 2nd set of Augusta very, very loud. I think Phil might have shaken one of my ribs loose. Hope the neighbors enjoyed as much as I did....ooops.

Unfortunately, I didn't really get on the bus until after Jerry was gone.. so no dates are going to have significance to me, as far as shows attended or anything. I would probably have special interest in any tickets or passes for shows that happen to be dated Dec 9th of any year though.

I did an internet search to see how long it takes for uploaded information to Gracenotes to take before it becomes visible automatically when others put the same CD into a linked computer. I don't know if this is accurate, but the sites I found says that it takes 24-48 hours before the new information propagates. I didn't know that when I did the uploads. If you can wait, they will eventually show up :)

Thanks for that link, man. I've had problems in the past getting all of the album art I wanted. That's also an area where I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Somehow, I've never found that spot for grabbing art. There's a few in there I'll already be using to replace unsatisfactory art choices I've had to make. For example, I currently have the same art for all three nights of Winterland '73. And yes, thanks to you who are getting the info onto gracenote. I actually never knew where that came from before. Though I, too, often make my own little custom tweaks once I get the info in order to have everything as consistent as possible in my iTunes.

wjonjd ~ Is there something I have to do to get the GraceNotes ID Tagging? When I just went to import 1987, there was no ID Tagging.

wjonjd & Dennis Wilmot ~ Nice to see that there are people as obsessed as I am about ID tagging. I had no idea that's how GraceNotes worked. I thought that the manufacturer of the CD uploaded the tagging information. I do many of the same things that you guys do. And with a band like the Grateful Dead, I can't imagine not having some kind of consistent system to manage their enormous (and ever growing) catalogue of music. In my iTunes, for Artist Name, I use "Grateful Dead (Live)" and "Grateful Dead (Studio)". Album Name for the Live stuff I do this: 1977-05-25 (Set 1 - The Mosque, Richmond VA) [Dave's Picks Vol 1] 1977-05-25 (Set 2 - The Mosque, Richmond VA) [Dave's Picks Vol 1] So when you look down the whole (very long) list of live shows in iTunes, it is very easy to read and distinguish dates from Set # from Venue, and then finally, the Source of the show. Aesthetics is as important, to me, as the information. Album Name for the Studio stuff is just the name of the Album as normal. For Songs, I also use "&", "and" on a case by case basis, based on aesthetics. I'm a chronology-crazed listener and an archivist-anal collector, so the Live method above is awesome for that. I never listen with "random" or "shuffle" on. Never! My favorite bands (and I have many), in particular, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead, evolved so dramatically from the beginning to the end of their careers, that I love to listen chronologically. I think that started as a kid in the late-1970s, when I bought The Beatles "Red Album" (1962-1966) and the "Blue Album" (1967-1970) collections. I was completely dumbfounded how all of that music was the same band, and in only 8-9 years. WTF! I mean how in the world does the band who wrote "She Loves You" and "Love Me Do" in 1962, just a short time later evolve into writing "Eleanor Ribgy", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "A Day In The Life" and the Abbey Road Album Side Two 'Suite'? Brilliant! Ever since, I immerse myself in an artists' catalogue and do it, chronologically. Similarly, with Led Zeppelin and The Grateful Dead . . . Well, anyway, now that I know that it's people like you that take the time to input and upload the ID Tagging . . . Thank you, thank you! . . . . . . and a good day to all of you!

This offering from 30 Trips is a classic Bruce/Vinnie show! The whole fall 1990 tour really. For a band who just hired two new players this tour has some mighty fine moments. New York to the UK and more! Good stuff!
