Since1965, perhaps you need to re-read your original post to see why some folks may have been offended. It wasn't a "light-hearted jab," but a dig at Heads across the country who are not lucky enough to be on the east coast. You are lucky enough to have 6 shows within 6 hours of your house while the rest of the nation's Heads get nothing this summer (at least as announced). I think that if you reworded it to be something along the lines of how lucky the east is to have so many shows instead of a condescending remark about how "it's where it's happening" and "it's about people and music," with the implicit suggestion that the other parts of the country don't have what the band is looking for, folks may not be offended. Personally, I am not offended, I know hot air when I see it, but if you think there aren't plenty of Heads across the rest of the country, you are mistaken and need to go to a few shows in the Midwest and out West. I don't think they have had trouble selling tickets. I just saw Furthur in Chicago (traveled from Michigan and I am certain there were Heads from across the midwest there to rival your list of states you mentioned) and believe me, the vibe was great, the band rocked, the crowd danced and everyone had a great time. The one argument that makes sense to me is the traveling one-- they can hit many nice venues without a lot of travel in a short period of time. That makes sense.

and they could do the same thing in the bay area, with a multitude of venues right there, and a short run up north (tacoma, portland.....seattle)...i dunno much about the midwest except there is a large following.

All summer tours are in the east as they should be. Oregon and Northern Cali will get some added on. No worries west coast.

to have some time with the boys. We in the midwest don't have alot of shows but we have had some and I regret that 10Klakefest isn't hosting a Furthur in the northern plains. Maybe you guys down under would actually be able to get a ticket without them all being scooped up by ticket brokers who could then gouge by doubling or tripling the price. Here is hoping that you guys get some love from the band. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

Can you believe I saw Ratdog play at a bowling alley in Omaha, Nebraska 3/24/02? I think the Furthur guitarist is from Omaha/ Council Bluffs so maybe they'll come back? Not holding my breath!!! DSO used to come through Omaha and play some great venues as well. God willing I'll see you guys somewhere soon!!!

On a positive note, it's great for us Canadian, specifically Ontarian, heads not to have to go as far as Michigan, Ohio, Vermont or NYC to hear a show. Just got tix for Buffalo - hoping to get to Rochester if work will allow... love the number of Buffalo shows lately... it's allowed many of us to make it out to at least one. Thanks Furthur!

Hey guys, It might not matter where your from if you can't get a ticket,The E-Scalper bastards buy all the tickets they can get and screw all of us. To bad the Band doesn't just sell 90% of the tickets thru GDTSTOO. And if the Band would play in my back I'd make the PBJ sandwich or grilled cheese. Peace Tina

rumor mill in full swing, rumor has it Phil to retire after summer tour.anybody else heard this one? Anyway, let's all remember that Phil is 70 and maybe he just doesn't want to do a hugh summer tour all over the US. I caught them in Asheville and they were extremely good, and I would love to have another show this summer, but I sure don't want Phil to "play to death" I remember when JG left us, alot of people were saying "he should have taken a break" well, lets be happy with what we have, and perhaps then Phil can live to a ripe old age. Anyway, I'm sure the midwest and west will get at least a show or two. let's see with our hearts these things our eyes have seen, and know the truth will still lie, somewhere inbetween

OK so the Furthur web site says tickets for the Penns Peak PA show are mail order and then tickets will be on sale this past Sat 3/6 at 10am. So I sit down at my computer at 9:50am on Sat 3/6 and wait and try for an hour and it keeps saying no tixxs available. I later find out today that a sister site of Ticketmaster was selling the tickets for $100 each. Exactly the same scam they pulled with the Springsten tix last summer that oissed everyone off. The cheapest scalp price I have seen for this show is $195.00 a single ticket with most sites asking more than that. How is it that so many scalpers have all these tixxs. Not a great Job by the boys. Wouldn't have expected this from them

This is a favorite of Sheryl Crow. How about the Fraze in Kettering, Ohio? Its small compared to a lot of places. It seats about 5,000? Its in a wonderful area. The Fraze is about 45 minutes from Cincinnati? G'Mule played last year after the Gorge and was incredible! Ask them! Please come to the Midwest!

"On March 8th, 2010 unkle sam said:rumor mill in full swing, rumor has it Phil to retire after summer tour. anybody else heard this one?" Well what I know is that at the end of the Miami show, Phil said that they would have to start doing more Florida shows because they don't get down here often enough. I also remember somewhere that JK was under contract to Phil and Bob for 2 years to play with them. That would mean sometime in 2011. Maybe after Phil turns 71??? And if FURTHUR folds, Bob resurects Ratdog and maybe JK goes back to DSO while grandpa Phil finally takes it easy, and Rhino releases RT 4.4 and digitally remastered complete Radio City October 1980 Box Set. One can only dream. On the BUS since 12-29-1968, and I'm never getting off. "When I die bury me deep, put two speakers at my feet, pair of ear phones on my head, and always play The Grateful Dead."

Thanks for the awesome show last night, we are truly grateful for the oppurtunity. I understand the displeasure from the passionate fans who would love for the band to play closer to their hometowns, states, regions, countries. I hope I didnt offend anyone with my earlier posting. After reading 50 negative comments in a row I attempted to be funny. It seems being hard on the band maybe isnt the best way to approach the situation. I wish my 68 year old dad would hike up and down Spencer Butte with me like he used to but I dont whine about. Sounded like Phil hinted at being back in the Northwest. That would be sweet, please everyone show up!

These hometown shows present a pleasant challenge. Trying to hang with all the extra people you know, your local friends who don't go to shows in the Bay Area or anywhere else. Good to see all the faces, and the show was..... also good. Don't know if it's a Portland jinx or what, but yet another pretty okay show. Nothing too challenging or outrageous. Very much a winding down the tour kind of show. Evident they're saving something for Friday - Phil did not sing anything solo, set list was very tame. Decent venue, not the horrible sound I've experienced there before. Apparently the largest venue on the tour. Did not come close to selling out. Chill scene on the GA floor, nary a security person around, hence the opportunity to experience the aromas of many fine examples of Oregon's kindest. It was a well played show, just not real inspired. These guys are pretty tight, I got spoiled seeing New Year's, but this was fun. First set was rather pedestrian. I like the way John sang Built to Last - that song is Jer all the way, and it sounded great. Second set Scarlet/Fire was great, but I liked Rueben and Cherise, which I've only ever heard DSO do ('cides Jer back in the day of course). That is a beautiful song and Phil and John were all over it. The China Rider closer was notable for the between song jam. John had to change guitars, right at what's supposed to be the screaming crescendo, worst possible moment for guitar failure. So Chiamenti filled the gap, and has he did the entire show - carried the day. John eventually came back with a screaming vengeance, and the whole jam actually ended up working! Love Jeff's playing, he really had it going last night. It was the kind of show where you're really glad you're going to see the next one. Phil's birthday should be very interesting. BTW - Phil said at one point early in the show, that it was good to play a show when you knew you were going home afterward. After the Donor Rap, he said he would be coming back in the future. Dispelling ugly rumours perhaps?

The wife and I were psyched on Tuesday 03/09 when we scored 2nd row 'Pit' tickets for the 2nd Philadelphia show at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts on July 11th and were immediately emailed a receipt confirming our good fortune. Best seats ever for a show we thought. Today we were informed that our luck had turned and our seats were in the section behind the Pit (Orchestra I believe) and a new email receipt was sent. Front Gate tickets of Austin, Texas said: "Dear Furthur Customer, We sincerely apologize, but we wanted to let you know we’re working on a seating issue with the 7.11 Mann Center Philadelphia, PA Furthur online presale. An error in our seating map and sales requires us to move your seats. We are doing our best to move everyone to the best available seats in our allotment and resend everyone their new locations today. Most orders will be moving less than 20 rows from the seats you originally held. Everyone who is being moved back in the venue will be receive both a full shipping and service charge refund due to our error. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We are truly sorry and hope you enjoy the show. Sincerely, Front Gate Tickets" A classic case of bait and switch? Does this constitute a breach of contract? Should Front Gate Tickets be reported to the Texas Attorney General? As any true fan would believe, the band has no control over what the ticket brokers do, therefore deserve no blame. Don't get me wrong, our "new" tickets aren't exactly nosebleeds, but we're dissapointed nevertheless. What are your collective thoughts?

it's akin to being offered and accepting cheesecake, paying for same, and being served toast. i think their wording is indicative of....something..."your seats are being moved"...not "the seats are not available"...bait and switch?...hell yes.....at a minimum they should offer a FULL refund and still give you seating, but this is just my opinion, i do not like getting burned nor seeing it happen to anyone else.

Thanks Johnman. The wife says the same thing - the tickets should be free. Personally, I could care less about the money, it's the seats that I want. Who's going to be sitting in Pit BB Seats 9 & 11? How did you get them? I hope Front Gate Tickets didn't sell them to Ralph's Ticket Emporium and Loan Company, who in turn put them on the Internet for $250 each. I was also wondering if anyone else had the same thing happen to them, or was it just us?

In my limited experience in the Philadelphia area I know that parking can be a huge issue. Is there plenty of parking available at the venue and is it easy to drive to? What is the public transportation to the venue like? Thanks in advance for any info. After reading above posts I'll be a little nervous about my tickets too. Mr Goat, I hope you get your ticket issues resolved. Sounds to me as though you should get the seats for free!

Thanks tphokie1, and everyone else for their support. I guess having ANY seats is better than not having any seats. As for the 'Dead Belt' regions, sorry for your loss. Living in Buffalo has allowed us to easily see 8 shows in the past year, and now 5 more this summer - and it's still not enough! If it's any consolation, we had our fair share of lean years (late 80s - early 90s) so it's important to strike while the iron's hot. Philly info would be appreciated. I haven't seen a show there since the Spectrum. How about the best place to stay? We're thinking about 3 nights at the Hilton on City Ave. Is it worth the expense?

Mr Goat, I'm obviously no expert on where to stay in Philly as per my previous post. However, we're considering staying at the Holiday Inn Express Center City. Room was $128 on Expedia plus $21 for parking. It appears to be very near many historical sites and very near a stop to catch a bus to Mann Center. Not sure how that compares to the Hilton. Enjoy the show!

Cool. We definitely want to stay not too far from the venue and still be able to see the sights like Independence Hall and such. As a middle school history teacher, my students and I always benefit from tours - I learn about the good ol' Grateful Dead and they get to learn about the good ol' United States.

Amazing set list - yes. But the fact that John only sang lead on one song - Lazy River Road was disappointing to say the least especially for how long the drive was to get there. Plus as some folks mentioned who were sitting near me - it was too chaotic with 5 people playing guitar. I don't know, I was happy to be there to celebrate my 40th bday with Phil's 70th and all but I wasn't expecting to be surprised in that way. In my opinion the Furthur magic just wasn't there as it was for the other 5 Furthur shows I had been to prior to March 12. "Here's my half a dollar if you dare .. double twist when you hit the air. I personally found both of your posts hilarious, and this especially: "I wish my 68 year old dad would hike up and down Spencer Butte with me like he used to but I dont whine about." I found it funny, then true, then made me laugh again, pure poetry. I guess being appreciative of what we got going might be a good idea, when you put it like that. I'm gonna have to go easier on my old dad, been running him up and down the mountain too much maybe. Actually, thay are coming to my backyard for some funny reason, but I do not have a firm offer on the peanut butter and jelly yet, still waiting. Maybe Dim Sum at "A Single Pebble"? funny, dude, thanks

Did anyone see the new issue of Rolling Stone? It has a page on Furthur with some interesting comments from Bob. The story says how Bob and Phil hatched the plan for the band at the end of the Dead tour last year, essentially saying Bill and Mickey were not hip to new musical directions for the band. Bob has a couple of comments that could be interpreted poorly by Bill and Mickey, potentially burning a great bridge. Not sure what Bob is thinking. My two cents is this: Bill and Mickey would do fine with Furthur or John would be great in the Dead and it would all work. I am not hearing much "new" ground-breaking music from Furthur that is so far from what Bill and Mickey did with the Dead, other than a guitarist to take the music to a different place. I think Bob should have kept his tough comments to himself on this one.

Yes, Marye, Bob does appear to occasionally have foot-in-mouth disease. My first reaction to his comments in the new RS was, "Ouch," for Mickey and Bill. The next thought was, I don't expect Bob to be playing with those two anytime soon. Glad to have caught them in 2009.
