5/17/77 Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Disc 2 from box set)
I had a question for some folks who have an extensive knowledge and collection of not only auds but from official releases. A few years back I bought the May '77 Box Set #4352/15000 and it's absolutely one of the most precious pieces of music I own. Sadly, Disc 2 from May 17th show at Univ of Alabama "somehow" walked itself out of the set I keep in a very safe spot in my house. So long story short, would anyone who owns the box set be willing to burn me a CD of that disc so I can at least have the complete set stored digitally. Who knows, maybe someday I'll go crazy enough to spend several hundred dollars on one CD out of 14 in order to complete my physical set. I don't believe this breaks any ethical rules since I did technically purchase the full set. Always want to make sure the money is going to the artists.

    A Religious Experience
I was there in Tuscaloosa that evening and, thankfully, a bit cosmic. I've been to hundreds of concerts and have lived a very full life, but I've not experienced anything like 5/17/77 before or since. I've never been a "church person" though I've often wished those Sunday gatherings could offer me some spiritual food. However, I remember walking out of the venue that evening and telling my girlfriend "That's what church should be like", and to this day I wish it was. It was a true communion...the crowd and the band were solidly linked in ways that transcended eyes and ears. It was amazing! So glad I happened to be there...

May 17, 1977 Tuscaloosa, Alabama show
This show was very important to me in so many ways. Two college friends from Wyoming hitchhiked from Laramie and met up with me in Monroe, Louisiana. A third friend from Monroe drove the 4 of us in his 2-seater sports car to Tuscaloosa, and we were the first people in line for the concert. For two of my friends, this was their very first Grateful Dead show. Were leaned on the stage, dead center, for the whole show...and what an amazing show it was!

This box is going to sound like one extended show in a way. They all seem to mixed similarly. This is going to be my second stop when I open the set. The fact David thinks it's the strongest show in the box certainly piques my interest. I've never heard this show before. David, look behind you! It's a whale!Do you hear a skip/splice in the listening party at 3 minutes 15 seconds? I have to assume that's on the disc as well...

It's interesting, and cool, how many of us have not heard a lot of these shows. I have copies of the 13th and 15th but admittedly never listened to them much. Not because of performance but because there is always better sounding 77 to listen to. I also have the 5/12 bonus and the Fallout Jackaroe, and those have always gotten quite a few listens. Anyway, the rest of 5/12, plus pretty much all of the 11th and 17th is new to me, and the 13th and 15th might as well be... very exciting! (The Tuscaloosa show is one that I always thought would be released some day, so I've avoided listening to it, hoping that my first listen would be to a Normanized version, yeay!)

Excellent->It's May 17th. A 17th on the 17th. A once in a lifetime kinda thing. Like aged whiskey you have to wait 17 years to drink. Here's to the music of this aged, polished and rightfully shining span of greatness. >>>Clink, ahhhhh 5 Beautiful Shows- Glistening. Thanks, xo.

@wilfredtjones I play these games once every while: playing artists from A > Z, playing all artists or playin complete work of one artist. For me this last alternative, listening to the complete body of work of a single artist tends to be too monotonous with GD, Zappa, Miles, Beach boys, Phil Lesh, Lou Reed (and Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn)...
