The picture is starting to get a bit clearer on the Grateful Dead's plans for the Summer ...and perhaps beyond. Fare Thee Well? One More Saturday Night! Word now is that in response to the unprecedented demand for the Dead's "Fare Thee Well" shows in Chicago, the same lineup, featuring all four surviving members of the Dead plus frequent collaborator Bruce Hornsby and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, will also appear in the Bay Area for two shows at Santa Clara's Levi's Stadium in late June, we believe the 27th and 28th. The Santa Clara shows will be the only additional shows to feature this lineup or at which all four of the surviving Dead members will play together (though we do expect at least two if not all four to appear as part of the Grateful Dead Tribute Night at San Francisco's AT&T Park on August 13th, where the band will join together to sing the National Anthem before the Giants game). As previously mentioned, however, there will be more "Grateful Dead" shows this year that feature some of the members playing together with different guest artists, all of them playing with separate bands, or both. Some of these shows will take place at iconic venues like New York's Madison Square Garden arena, Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and probably a San Francisco-area venue to be determined, in addition to, perhaps, the Hollywood Bowl. Weir Still Here First, we expect a series of shows, perhaps a tour, featuring a nearly-Dead ("Almost Grateful"?) lineup set to include three of the "core" four surviving members - singer-guitarist Bob Weir and dual drummers BIll Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. On guitar, these shows will feature special guest and Dead fan John Mayer, as well as Steve Kimock, a Bay Area native regarded as a specialist in Jerry Garcia's style, while Phish's Mike Gordon will stand in for still-kicking bass player Phil Lesh, and frequent Dead collaborator Jeff Chimenti, also part of the stadium band, will handle keyboard duties. We expect these shows to take place either in June, right before the Bay Area gigs, or perhaps in late Summer and early Fall, and to begin or end with a multi-night stand at Red Rocks (where Kreutzmann and Hart appear with third-generation jam band the Disco Biscuits next month). Members of this band may also join Weir at the Dear Jerry tribute concert at Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilion in May, at which all four members will appear separately. We note both that that event will take just days before David Letterman's final appearance on air, and that Weir was a musical guest during Mayer's recent stint guest-hosting CBS' The Late Late Show. In the Spirit of Woodstock Second, a number of festivals will see Dead-themed shows featuring one or more band members. We believe that the nearly-Dead lineup, or one close to it (perhaps substituting Widespread Panic's David Schools for Phish's Gordon) may play the as-yet-unannounced Saturday night "Superjam" at this June's Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee before performing at the Live Earth event outside NYC a few days later. We also would not be surprised to see a different Dead band, featuring Weir, Kreutzmann and Hart along with fellow sixties and seventies San Francisco star Carlos Santana on guitar, perform at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park, the site of many sixties Grateful Dead concerts, on August 9th, the anniversary of Garcia's death (we will have more to say about that festival's lineup soon). That would occur just a week before Weir and Kreutzmann collaborate with several young jamband musicians at the annual Allman Brothers-themed Peach Music Festival in Pennsylvania, whose bill also includes Santana and several notable Dead collaborators including Hornsby and latter-day Allman brother Warren Haynes (as well as Gregg Allman himself), and where Weir will separately collaborate with New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band. We would not be surprised if additional such collaborations are announced for Connecticut's Dead-themed Gathering of the Vibes festival, at which Kreutzmann will perform on Garcia's birthday, August 1st, or the Phases of the Moon festival in Arkansas in October. Lockn' In While Bonnaroo and Outside Lands are the biggest-name festivals to feature potential Dead collaborations this year, the only festival that will host all four members of the band is the Lockn' Festival in central Virginia in mid-September. The four members will appear mostly separately, but we expect subsets of them to take part in at least two of the collaborations that are the festival's organizing principle. One will be an encore of the Weir-Kreutzmann collaboration set for the Peach. Another will likely involve an appearance by "Dead Feat," featuring Little Feat members Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere (the band itself appears separately) along with Kreutzmann and New Orleans guitar/vocalists and big Dead fans Anders Osborne and Billy Iuso. And we would not be surprised if a third pairs Santana with Hart and perhaps Lesh, already announced as leading his own band of unspecified "Friends," who we expect to include Haynes and Osborne on guitar. Volunteers In addition to the Dead and perhaps Santana, Lockn' will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of a third group of San Francisco scenesters, the Jefferson Airplane. Original members Jorma Kaukonen (who will take part in the Dear Jerry concert) and Jack Casady will participate in a special Jefferson Airplane set featuring many special guests led by Saturday Night Live musical director G.E. Smith and husband and wife duo Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams of the Levon Helm Band (and he of Bob Dylan's band, among others, as well). While Grace Slick is now retired from performing, her parts will be handled by Lake Street Dive's big-voiced Rachael Price, and we would not be surprised if original Airplane singer Marty Balin is added to the lineup at a later date, nor if the Dead's Kreutzmann participates on drums. Kaukonen and Casady will also perform as their duo formed in the early '70s, Hot Tuna, and we expect Kaukonen to take part in one of the Dead-themed collaborations at the festival as well. Dear Jerry Finally, there is the possibility of additional Dear Jerry-style tribute concerts on one or both coasts, perhaps circa Garcia's birthday, but more likely in the Fall. We would expect any event in California, especially if it takes place in the Los Angeles area, to feature members of Dead friends Los Lobos (also appearing at the Maryland event), who we note have have broken with tradition this year and moved their annual Cinco de Mayo festival at LA's Greek Theatre to the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston's Hermann Park. In New York, we would not be surprised to see one or more concerts, whether a single all-star tribute or a series of shows, perhaps around Thanksgiving, and featuring members of Jefferson Airplane, Phish, and even Dead-set indie-rockers The National, among others including Garcia-minded guitarists Kimock and John Kadlecik, who played Jerry in Weir and Lesh's Furthur band, as well as potential special guests Hornsby and Dead collaborator Branford Marsalis. While Lesh, arguably the leading musical force in the band these days, will not appear at festivals other than Lockn', he may participate in these additional tribute events with his own band of friends, perhaps including San Francisco-based Garcia-stylist Stu Allen on guitar. Lesh and/or another member or two is also likely to participate in Haynes' annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC in December. Expect an announcement of the Levi's Stadium shows as early as this week, and stay tuned for "furthur" updates...

thanks to all wishing me well on this round of tickets, i know the last round was nerve racking, didn't get my pinky until the last day. as some of you know, my hope for these tickets arnt so much for me wanting to see the show (I do of course) but to share the experience with my two boys (24 and 12 respectively) and my lovely wife. to kind of let them get a peek through the looking glass at what I've experienced some 100+ times. and maybe expand their consciousnesses about the true meaning of community. (as I see it) and how music is more than something that comes out of a radio and can be felt in the heart and soul. well wishes to all who like me weren't lucky enough for the chi town gigs, hopefully we'll cross paths in Santa Clara! Well it's official. We mail ordered, tried to get ticket packages, and never got through to ticketmaster the first round and we didn't get tickets to Santa Clara either. I've never worked so hard to get in to any show before and I've never failed so miserably. I am done trying at this point. I hope they stream these to those of us that can't be there... :(

Hi- I didn't get tickets to Chicago but I had already reserved a hotel. It is around 250 a night and I think I reserved for 3-4 nights. It is the Swissotel Chicago. One would have to assume some guest appearances happening over the 5 show run. I think they will keep it to a minimum though , any revolving door of guests going on and off stage might get uncomfortable. Keeping continuity for streaming and DVD recording playing a part in all.

AMC movie theatres has a post saying they will be showing the shows at their theaters. Simulcast? Didnt say, but google it. Ive seen a couple other posts anout it, saying the pricing will be determined by each theater. If you're not going, sounds like a great way to enjoy it. Great sound and probably a better view than if you were there, no matter where you are in the building. A proshot video with surround sound on a huge screen....not bad!!! Oh by the way, if you find something on ebay you are willing to pay, talk to the seller, and tell them you dont want to make payment until around the 15th of this month. You should then be covered by ebays 30 day policy. It starts from the moment of payment. I found a 3-day pass for $540. Pricy but i was willing, and i simply explained to the seller, that the listing was in violation of ebay rules, but if we went ahead and played out the auction, and he (the seller) let me hold off on paying until may 15th, then it will be all good. He said he was fine with that, that he felt bad for selling over face...but making less than $300 off a 3-day pass, isnt so bad. He could have done much better and put a reserve or buy it now for a grand. Probably would have got it. Those still looking for tix, this is an option, otherwise, set up an account with cashortrade the website. Its great. Trade or sell, or buy, only at face. Chicago tix are still the hardest to come by. One last thing, ive seen santa clara tix selling for less than face on ebay. Cant beat that!!

Has anyone who scored tix through the online lottery received any info on these prepaid availability only-parking passes for levi? If you check the announcement, the original one on this site, scroll through it and you will see that it says all cars will require a $60 per day parking pass (buses and rvs: $120) and that these must be purchased ahead of time, as they will not be available on the show dates. It also says anyone who "wins" the lottery and is allowed to buy tix, will shortly thereafter receive info for purchasing these passes???? Ive received no info, nor has anyone i know. Does anyone know where these were available for purchase firsthand? Sll i can find now is bullshit stubhub options, at rediciculous prices? Please someone if you have any info on this matter, please help me. Thank you.

There is limited availability of 12 and 20 person Sky Suites for the Chicago Fare The Well shows. They are obstructed view but there will be big screens showing the band. The tickets are $200 and you must buy the whole suite. I don't know which dates are available but if you can round up enough buddies to do this it will at least get you in. Passes for the shows in Santa Clara will go on sale to current ticketholders at 10am PST on Monday 6/8.

I can't get to Chicago, but have a reserved hotel room I can't use. Walking distance to Soldier's field at the Travelodge Downtown. Check in July 2 and check out July 6. I paid under $200 per night and can arrange to transfer the reservation name. Would much rather have someone appreciating the room at that rate, than what they would charge to someone if I just cancelled the reservation!

TWC will be showing the Chitown shows. No announcement yet. You just gotta poke around... You can call ur TWC and ask. But from what I have seen its 3,4,5th July, at a very high channel number. $40 bucks a pop. hope it helps a lil.In Jerry We Trust.

Got left out like a lot of others at Chi Town & could not afford to go to Santa Clara. Were tapers allowed in & wondering where they would post them in the archive. I would really like to listen to a copy.

Would have been a great show & worth every penny…EXCEPT: who's the schizo director of the camera crew? We are trying to make the home a concert experience. Sound & setlist was great. But the director obviously knows nothing about shooting a concert nor does he know the band members. The whole herky-jerky shoot was constantly changing cameras, pulling in and out of long shots, using the "Ken Burns" effect I have on my Mac. You rarely saw who was performing the soaring solos, constantly taking endless long shots of the stadium, frequently showing the back view of the stadium so we could look at the construction, and lingering over the Dead's banners. The video feed the audience saw on the big screens was infinitely better. Let's do something different for the next 4 shows: LET US SEE THE BAND PLAY!!! Why not linger over a static shot of the musicians? The constant switching around every couple of seconds means too much coffee for the director (try decaf). I hope I actually get to see the Dead play. BTW, would be nice to occasionally see Trey & Bruce, too.

Interesting 1st night. My initial impression was “Rat Dog on steroids” but after watching again, I’m thinking maybe by Chicago we’ll have some real interesting stuff going on. Trey is a real plus and maybe they’ll turn him loose; Phil looked great (pun) and he sang more in one night than on 5 tours in the old days. Bobby was a little dominant but given the setup that’s understandable & maybe he’ll give everyone some space to click once they all have the kinks worked out. Nice set of really old stuff last night. Space/Drums = phenomenal!

it's a rare experience to be going "whoa, what's that music they played at the set break?" But it seems like the whole net was doing it this weekend!

What a pleasant surprise....well done....very minor hiccups....on the HD feed, but amazing memorable hours spent..... Boys are learning to feed off each other and last night both Bruuuucccceeee and Trey let loose..... Organized chaos.....warts and all.....beautiful....still smiling..... Bobby with energy and clear eyes...once again...reminded me of Europe 72 on Sugar Mags....still spitting.....refreshing if you're ga pit Bobside..... Priceless....and am blessed to be road tripping with some friendly strangers, and you know who you are.....
