    The Dead Covers Project 2016

This year's submissions period has ended. Check out all the great performance with the Official 2016 DEAD COVERS PROJECT playlist.

Whether you play just like Jerry or like to give the Grateful Dead's beloved classics a unique spin, the 2016 Dead Covers Project wants you! We're calling all musicians - near and far - to share your love for the music and magic of the Dead through video. Show off your musical chops and you just might find yourself front and center on Dead.net during the month of February! The rules are simple - all video submissions must contain a song either written by or recorded by the Dead. How that song is interpreted, however, is entirely up to you.

Upload your video to YouTube, tag it "DeadCoversProject," and we'll make it available to view on the band's official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/gratefuldead. Can't carry a tune? Join the fun by "liking" your favorites on YouTube.

    Good luck!

    GD Karaoke Covers?
There are some Karaoke covers of Dead tunes. Mostly Truckin and Casey Jones. If you dig hard you can find Big River, some traditional blues. The Mars Hotel Out takes has about the best Scarlett B Karaoke/instrumental version I've heard! How about a sub category for next years Cover Project to include a Karaoke award? Sorry singers, take the backup position. Let's build up a home made Karaoke library!!!

This version of New Minglwood Blues was recorded after having whiskey for breakfast to cure a cold. . . Well, ok, that's not actually true, but hopefully something of that spirit is captured here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKXpLsRhJwE As for I Know You Rider, the story goes that the Dead were hanging out with John Cougar Mellencamp and some graffiti artists when Joe Zawinul showed up. . . and the rest is of course history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDhMjnwZvk0

If you go to youtube, you can like videos. That may have a bearing on the ranking but I'm not sure. Check out savannahs and the kings "scarlet Begonias". Currently at 7, but my personal favorite.

This is the version that Jimmy Warbler and the Wombats famously performed on the Pride of the Caribbean in the 1970s. Jimmy sadly lost that gig and now sells used cars in Daytona Beach, so if you pass by be sure to give the guy a toke, as he definitely knew his chops, but life just dealt him some bad knocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZXdgmPLB2s

How does voting take place? Who decides which videos get "featured" on this site? How come one of the selections was featured on the Dead's facebook? This hardly seems like a contest on the up and up...

I just asked for clarification on this. When you Like the video on YouTube, that's a vote. Hope this helps.

If this contest is in any way related to youtube likes then The Grateful Dead facebook should not be posting one of the entry videoes. No wonder they are winning!Come on guys... Bunk!

The video should have to have been uploaded sometime after Feb 1 as well, or whenever the "contest" started.

I've always said "never trust a robot" Based on the fact that our 'leader board' now includes a performance by the Dead themselves, I'd say there's something to that sentiment!

OK! Annual Dead Covers Project time! Always a blast. Bimini Road performs Scarlet -> IKYR, which works really nicely, or so we think. Got a vocal flub by yours truly, but it's not like THAT never happened before :). What do you think? Recorded on 21 November, 2015 at Berkeley Bob's Coffee House in Cullman, Alabama. Enjoy! Chuck Puckett, Guitar & Vocals Ruthie Puckett, Vocals Richard Eade, Guitar & Vocals Clark Williams, Drums & Vocals Sujay Mylabathula, Bass

Ha, Paul! The Grateful Dead is coming on strong now and occupying both the #9 and #10 spot. Nothing can stop them now. Of course it is their cover of "It's all over now, Baby Blue" for the DylanCoverProject 2016, but who's counting.
