Week of July 15-21, 2024
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll check out Grateful Dead music from 1974, 1978, and 1979.
Our first stop this week is the on 5/14/74 in Missuoula, the Dead’s only performance in Montana, where we have this excellent sequence of Weather Report Suite>Dark Star>China Doll.
Next up is the start of the second set on 5/13/78 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, where we have Bertha>Good Lovin, Terrapin Station>Playing In The Band. Between 1977 and 1995, the Dead played the Spectrum every year with the exception of 1984 and 1991.
Lastly this week is the bulk of the second set from 5/12/79 at UMass Amherst, where we have Terrapin Station> Playing In The Band > Drums> Space> Not Fade Away > Stella Blue> Good Lovin'. We hope you don’t mind two Terrapin>PITB sequences this week.
We hope to see you here next week, when we’ll have more music from the vault.

After only two weeks of rehearsals and a few shows under his belt, comfortably jamming on PITB like he'd been there all along. Nice!
Cheers

Hey Man,
Wonderful to hear this Amherst ‘79 sequence. Outdoor show with Spring in the air. It was a screech!
What a bill of musicians: Patti Smith, Roy Ayers and of course GD.
Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux,
