1969 Gallagher Estate Grateful Dead Event
The Grateful Dead were hired to play a private party to coincide with the 4th of July in Norwalk,CT.It is definitely a fact as I know a relative of the party -thrower and what an event it was! As usual the Hell,s Angel,s somehow made the guest list if You know what I mean!Back then, it was what it was, compared to today,it is what it is! It,s all good anyhow as They say!

Thanks for the acoustic October '80 tunes! I was lucky to see 2 shows at the beautiful Saenger in New Orleans. I like your mention of 11/6/77 too: one of my favorite tapes/cds!

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1977, 1980 and 1981, a short but excellent span of the Dead’s performing career.

First up this week is music from the Grateful Dead’s stop in Albuquerque, NM on 10/7/77, where they’d play this second set sequence of Ramble On Rose ; Passenger ; Terrapin Station > Playing In The Band. This tour was filled with great music right through the 11/6/77 show in Binghamton, NY.

Next up is the entire first set of one of the majestic three set show in 1980, this one frpm 10/7/80, the most interesting of the acoustic sets from 1980. From this greta night of music, we have Iko Iko ; Dark Hollow ; Rosalie McFall ; Monkey And The Engineer ; To Lay Me Down ; Heaven Help The Fool ; Deep Elem Blues ; El Paso > Ripple.

Lastly this week is an interesting second set sequence from 9/30/81 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the Grateful Dead’s only performance is Scotland. From the Europe ‘81’s tour-opening show, we have Feel Like A Stranger ; Ship Of Fools ; Samson And Delilah ; Never Trust A Woman.

Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault.

Roczilla, this event has been alluded to over the years, it is fascinating to get some kind of confirmation. The actual date, if it happened--and I hope it did!--would likely have been Thursday, July 10. The touring schedule was July 4-5 '69--Kinetic Playground, Chicago, IL July 7 Piedmont Park, Atlanta, GA (free concert to celebrate the 1st Atlanta Pop Festival) July 8 Rock Pile, Toronto, ON July 11-12 New York State Pavilion, Flusing Meadows, Queens The supposed location was The Evergreen Estates in Norwalk. The Evergreen Estates, now called Cranbury Park, was the grounds of a large mansion that had been taken over by the city of Norwalk in 1965. For more speculation on this esoteric subject, see here http://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2010/01/grateful-deadjerry-garcia-tour… Roczilla, if you have any more details, however fragmentary, please put them in the Comment section of the linked blog post. Thanks Corry

Wow, as a kid who spent much of my youth in the early 80's hanging out with friends at Cranbury Park (which we always called Gallaghers, although the official name is apparently Gallaher) more often than not with the Grateful Dead blaring from a car stereo or boombox, the thought that the Dead might have played a stealth show there years earlier blows my mind! Here is a link to the park...the grounds are quite beautiful. It was quite the party spot in the 70's and 80's. http://www.norwalkct.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/1

Anybody at this show? There's a weird sound, then everybody cheers, then it sounds like someone's gargling, followed by more cheering... One of those "you had to be there" moments, I guess. Maybe you were and you remember? Great hearing some acoustic '80 stuff! Thanks, Dave
