Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from a short period in Grateful Dead history, early in Brent’s tenure with the band, with selections this week from 1979, 1981 and 1982.
Our first tracks this week are from 9/6/79, the final night of a three night run at Madison Square Garden, with music from the second set featuring Ramble On Rose, Terrapin Station>Playing In The Band.
From two years later, we have music recorded live in Seattle on 8/14/81, with the sequence of music coming out of Space. Other One tease>Playing In The Band reprise>Wharf Rat>I Need A Miracle>GDTRFB>Johnny B. Goode. That’s a pretty well-developed Other One jam to start things off, but which they soon abandon before it becomes a full-blown Other One, in preference of heading back into Playing In the Band.
From another year later, on 8/8/82 at Alpine Valley in East Troy, WI, we have the start of the second set, featuring Far From Me>Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain. That’s a very rare Far From Me set opener, but very cool nonetheless.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes form the vault.
