Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll check out some mighty fine Grateful Dead music from 1972, 1973 and 1979.
Our first stop this week is at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, CT, on 9/24/72, where we have this fine batch of second set tunes: Greatest Story Ever Told>Bertha>Promised Land, Friend of the Devil, Jack Straw, Tomorrow Is Forever. I just checked out some google images of this place, and it's a spectacular venue!
Next up is music from 10/29/73 in St. Louis, where we have the second half of the first set, featuring Don't Ease Me In, Black-Throated Wind, Tennessee Jed, The Race Is On, Row Jimmy, Eyes Of The World>China Doll, Around and Around. I love these first set Eyes Of The Worlds, always a grand way to head toward set two.
Last this week is the show-opening sequence from 11/24/79 in San Diego: China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider, Mama Tried>Mexicali Blues, Peggy-O, Cassidy. It's always fun to see rare show-openers like this China>Rider.
Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from the vault.
