Garcia still works wonders on the guitar. His obbligato behind rhythm guitarist Bob Weir's vocal on the gun-fighter ballad, "El Paso," ranged from flamenco figures to blues lines. The latter created a humorous and musically interesting mixture. Rhino mess up again, and it costs me.

I noticed that on the customs declaration on the packaging of my Dave's 53, the value of the goods was stated as $39.98. The a la carte version of this release is priced at $29.98 at the Dead Net Store. The subscription price was, of course, lower (and even lower still for the early bird offer, which was what I bought). This is irrelevant for US punters but as a European, I have to pay VAT based on the stated value of the goods. This makes every copy significantly more expensive so the last thing needed is an incorrectly high value being stated on the customs declaration. As a result, for Dave's 53 I had to pay €16.00 ($16.60) to Dutch customs for VAT and "administative costs".
Rhino, how hard can it be to state the correct value on the customs declaration? Please get your act together and ensure this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future.
Marye, maybe you could bring this to the attention of the powers that be.

I haven't heard disc three, so I will withhold judgement for now

Here is a non inspiring sleep fest. What a terrible release. Is this all that is left in the vault? Well enough played, not mind blowing, just bland average at best. Nice enough Let it grow, the shows obvious highlight. Stella Blue works, and that is it. Whatever Dave..

cost of a Sabbath ticket

I don't know how much the tickets will cost for this upcoming show, but my ticket for 3/11/73 cost £1.25. I've still got it. In fact it might be worth more now than it was then. Part of this was recorded for the live album that came out a year or so later. I was 15 at the time - an incredible experience.

Not Sabbath to me without Bill Ward. What they did to him was wrong.

Loved them in late 70's - mid 80's.

Can always look back.

Got an original first album that I bought a record store around the corner from the Marquee Club on Wardour.

Gonna have to look at that cover tonight. Bought several other Sabbath albums there. Along with Ozzy "Talk of the Devil" as titled there.

Havent searched youtube yet but has anyone watched all the GD tribute performances from Friday Nights Oscar Bash. They look like they might be tasty.

I’ll just add to 1st shows intel et el. Definitely recommend stands for bookshelves. Your tweeter/horn should be positioned at ear height! If possible, place your speakers equal distance apart with your listening spot forming an perfect triangle. Use the rule of fifths (thirds usually not practical). Experiment with distance to back wall: too close and it’ll sound to muddy/bassy, too far out and it’ll sound to thin…
Using same brand usually ensures good speaker synergy.
Can’t recall hearing the other brands (which might be telling in itself) but have heard Klipsh and liked em.
If you can’t get a trial, at least you should be able to return them if for some reason you really don’t like them.

in my case is that as I came "out of it," I found myself already in conversation with someone and my awareness of that lagged behind the actual conversation. Gawd only knows what I am saying before I become aware I'm talking.

JGBGD, er, whatever...

I like Jer's voice and the sound of his guitar. There's one JGB release I really love but it escapes me now as to which one. I just kind of shuffle through them and listen without committing all of the details to memory. There's a lot up there already - at age 56 I could be at capacity - so adding more new data could begin to push the old out.

And make no mistake about it, folks - this old world ain't what she used to be (sighs).

My advice to Jer would be, don't quit your day job. Some in the know have alleged that he was a live beast and just lived to be on the road, while others assert that as captain of that particular ship he got a bigger cut and needed the cash to support his habit. Probably a bit of both... on a good night it was damn good and on a bad night it was... boring.

I still stoke my metal jones occasional... it's good music to drive fast to or get ready to compete in anything, but remains a fixture of my adolescence. Pictures in my locker from Hit Parader of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and AC/DC along with Cindy Crawford and various SI swimsuit models.
