Holy days ... occasion to dress in special clothing, set aside the routines of everyday life, devote attention to rituals and traditions that affirm or express deeper values, give and receive gifts, spend time with the ones you love, and expect miracles. Sound familiar?

    A Christmas miracle
has happened. My friend Rikke in Denmark has played Santa behind my back. I told her last week that I could not afford a ticket to see the kids, and thus was going to do my best to pretend there is no Christmas this year. So she took up a collection amongst some other mutual friends (Rikke wrote a bunch of my friends that she met at my birthday party in April, including my Dad) and now I am going to have a week w/my children. She told me this last night. I am stunned, blown away, and suddenly feeling very Christmassy with this good fortune. I will remember this gesture for a very long time-and how lucky I am to have such friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ********************************** Don't part with your illusions. Everybody! Don't know 'bout y'all, but personally I am NOT sad to see the back of 2010, and am welcoming 2011 with open arms.********************************** I am not young enough to know everything. Oscar Wilde

I'll tip a glass of bubbly to all of us in anticipation of a happy new year! The setlist from Furthur last night looks terrific: tonight's show is on XM Sirius, live.

Here in the lovely Bay Area, they're lighting the Bill Graham menorah in Union Square, the Christmas tree's up at the Fillmore, and it's mere weeks until the Dead and Co. shows.
